  • I've received many messages over Instagram about people wanting me to cover the topic of Slim vs Jumbo Simplified Chinese Pokémon card texture differences. Due to high demand i finally decided to make a video covering this topic. This video compares the Traditional Chinese Pokemon releases to the Simplified Chinese Pokemon releases.

    Amazing!
    I've started down the road of collecting different languages. This makes it all the more complicated! LOL But thank you for the clear explanations.

      It’s true, it does complicate collecting a bit but at the same time it gives S-Chinese cards a bit more incentive to collect. IMO printing variation are cool to see across the languages. 😁

    This is very interesting to see! I haven’t done comparisons, but it feels similar to how PCI does higher quality texturing on promo cards than mainset cards (to save on money). Maybe it’s similar over there. Either way, it’s a super cool thing to consider & gives us more to consider when it comes to how texturing affects art!

      No problem! Thanks for watching! That’s definitely part of why I’ve stopped collecting English. The Asian language cards (aside from Japanese) don’t see price spikes like that. It usually happens gradually over time when product ages and becomes scarce, but that can take years after sets release.

    Chinese collectors prefer jumbo pack cards more than slim pack cards,because they’re shinier and are more like Japanese version cards, so the prices are higher here. We’re also confused about why there’re two types of cards.😅

    • @KrystalKollectz
      @KrystalKollectz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s really interesting to know! Thank you for sharing. 😄 It’s a true contrast from what is more valued in the western countries since it appears most people like the slim quality foil. But then again we’ve been used to the “jumbo” type foil already from Japanese cards and many like seeing different quality cards. I appreciate your insight! 😁✨

  • @David-Bashford
    @David-Bashford 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I’m curious your guess as to whether these differences are intentional? Happenstance? Maybe trying something out before things sync down the road?
    Great stuff as always.

    • @KrystalKollectz
      @KrystalKollectz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s actually a good question. I can only theorize for now but perhaps Pokémon Japan is experimenting through the S-Chinese releases especially after seeing so many changes in the booster box/bundle packaging.
      My guess is that they’re trying more environmentally-friendly tactics? As for the differences in quality it’s most likely coincidence but I could be wrong. I’m just thinking logistically it might be too much for one facility / printer to produce the same type of cards for both types of packs. Pokémon Japan after all are printing for at least 5 card languages at this point. Maybe it’s their way of keeping up with demand, especially China’s massive population.

    • @David-Bashford
      @David-Bashford 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      S-C can do no wrong at the moment (except for maybe securing promos properly!). All the products are so spot on and leaps beyond what is being created elsewhere. Here’s hoping your theory is right that Pokemon as a whole is experimenting with S-C and the sorts of things they are creating find their way elsewhere.

    I remember seeing the same difference between the eevee heroes HR first print and later print where the sparkling was slightly more coarse grained. The difference was only on the sparkle not on the texture. In your video, the slim card texture seems to be more "precise" than the jumbo in addition of the sparkle difference. Looks like they printed them in two different facilities or used different settings?

    • @KrystalKollectz
      @KrystalKollectz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the input about the Eevee heroes printing! But yes the texture difference is super apparent. I wish I knew if it was the printer settings or a different facility entirely 😕

  • @attract_mode_
    @attract_mode_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Been intrigued by this myself.
    I pulled the Espon Vmax from a slim and have a copy of the Japanese card to compare and there is a slight contrast difference and the Chinese card seem to have a nicer texture and more sparkles.
    The question is, which is going to become to most desired version of these cards? From talking to Chinese sellers about the Moonbreon, the Jumbo pack version is currently more expensive whereas if the slim is the unique version then I would have thought that would be the card that demands the premium.
    It puts a right spanner in the works if you are trying to collect them all tho.

    • @KrystalKollectz
      @KrystalKollectz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes! Thank you for your input. I have heard the opposite preference among collectors in China. This may lead to a different market value for slim vs jumbo foiled cards between the two countries but I think more people will need to catch on the differences before we get to that point.
      But yes it means the completionist collectors need to gouge our wallet more to obtain all the S-Chinese variants of the cards we want. 😂 Completing master sets will be a night mare LOL

      No markings other than holofoil differences. It’s technically the same set just different packaging / printing. Also, I don’t buy from eBay and I haven’t seen sellers yet distinguish the card foil differences. I’d imagine some sellers aren’t even aware of the differences yet.
