- We're getting ready to sail aboard the Carnival Horizon on July 4th... can we navigate all these new protocols? Vaccinated, unvaccinated, COVID testing, masks, social distancing, youth programs... it's a lot to absorb! We dug through Carnival's website, John Heald's Facebook page, and a stack of emails to compile all the information we needed for our sailing... so we figured we would share, since it applies to a lot of upcoming July and August cruises aboard the Carnival Horizon, Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze, Mardi Gras, Carnival Magic, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Panorama, Carnival Miracle, and more!! :P

Jay & Dee, we stayed at the LaQuinta Miami airport East just before Hurricane Dorian hit in late August 2019 when we sailed the Conquest, very nice hotel. There’s a free continental breakfast and also a free shuttle to the Port

Thanks for the update. It’s difficult to figure out the latest information with all the changes. I will also miss the full size Fun Times (I still have an old 2006 when they were called Carnival Capers). But thankful for the tear off version. I do like to highlight the events that interest me. I think ordering the chocolate strawberries is best as I would want them fresh. They have been waiting in the cabin when I’ve just eaten and I don’t eat them. So wasteful. So glad you will be checking out Horizon just before I cruise. Although cruising Horizon with you would have been better.☺️
Changes have been popping in all over the place, ha ha... yes, we still have some old Carnival Capers from 2005... they shall be missed! That's a good point about the freshness of the strawberries, actually... we've had a few mushy plates because they delivered them in the morning and we stayed out of the cabin all day, ha ha...

June 30th morning update from John Heald:
-buffets, ice-cream & coffee will be self-serve with crew ensuring hand sanitization
-casinos will be smoking on one side, non-smoking on the other
-ship card purchases get cut off at some point until you complete muster
-digital muster info will be on the stateroom TV, not your phone
-casino bar was removed from Vista & Horizon, with new machines added
Ugh. I was hoping self-serve buffets would be a thing of the past. The one protocol that actually made a big difference, they get rid of already.
The e- muster and crew serving the buffet were my two favorite protocols too. Hope they at least keep the e-muster.
Just to clarify; With the muster drill you can go whenever you want, as long as it is BEFORE the sail away time.
Correct. From what I understand, you can go at your leisure just about as soon as you board the ship and watch the videos (which will apparently be on your cabin TV, not your phone), but as long as it's before a certain cut-off time, probably around 3:00pm. We shall see when we board the Carnival Horizon next week!! :D
Great information...I am hoping to do a Coastal Cruise out of San Francisco in October. I hope they don't cancel. Who knows what our protocols will be then?!? Have fun! I can't wait to cruise vicariously through you guys!!

That’s a lot of new info to take onboard (pardon the pun) haha. 😂 But seems pretty straight forward with the great way you covered it off guys and just a couple more things to add to the check list or packing list. If cruising down under here between New Zealand and Australia required all these new protocols to start up again, a lot of us would say heck yeah! Let’s bring it on 😊. But at this stage we have no firm idea when cruising with resume. Enjoy your cruise. I’m so jealous but will be watching your vlogs with anticipated excitement 🚢🥳 stay safe

We just booked the Breeze for August. This was helpful, but I realize things will probably change before our cruise. Looking forward to your upcoming cruise blogs.
True! Right now, these protocols should apply to the Breeze in August, but who knows what changes might come mid-July when the CSO changes and the CDC isn't allowed to be involved anymore!!
It's funny - none of the covid protocols bother me but the Fun Times no longer being printed 😭 I loved collecting those! Oh well, less paper waste takes priority to my hoarding lol

@@irenecook8004 I actually have several flat files I keep all our travel stuff in - like maps and pamphlets from National Parks, itineraries, and of course cruise stuff. I even saved napkins from the Carnival Fascination from the Weezer cruise I took years ago 😆
We always made sure to have a perfect one to pack with us from each day, guess we will have to do the same with the small slips now.
You can still get Fun Times at Guest Services just won't magically appear in Staterooms any longer

Thank you for all the information, it was really helpful, I am on the Glory in April and I'm 99.9% sure that all the protocols are going to change by then however, it's always good to get mentally prepared beforehand, 2nd I love the Hampton Inn blue Lagoon in Miami. It's a fantastic hotel with a vary lovely view. Excited about your videos on board. Have fun guys.

Agreed, the merge they did broke and it's a total train wreck now. At first my Mom's name was on my account. Now it appears they've merged mine and my husband's accounts. Such a mess.

“Bubble Tours” are a real deal breaker for my family. I get that cruises are especially worried and really want to avoid an outbreak. However, your Mexico blogs have shown me that it’s possible for resorts to be both safe and accommodating. Free testing and free quarantine guarantee give me the peace of mind to travel. I’m looking forward to cruising again, but I’m going to wait until cruise lines are less strict. Thanks for the great info!
We loved getting our and exploring all-inclusives in Mexico as safely as we could during the shutdown... such a cool area to just relax!!
Hoping by January/feb for the horizon b2b for me and wife to be allowed to cruise or % increased for non vaccinated. Don’t mind mask wearing. But sucks can’t just sit on beach at least. Btw loved info in horizon vlog series

On my last cruise Dec 2019 on the Paradise I pretended the hub app was my daily internet. I would look at everything in there!
Heck yeah! It's a good way to kill some time even if you don't buy into an internet plan... all sorts of stuff to play with!! :P
I get lots of monthly offers for free sailings on Carnival that I don’t usually take because I prefer to sail with Royal, however, it’s nice to see that they have these protocols in place to ensure that the cruise environment remains safe. It’s just easier to get vaccinated and cruise. I would be terrified to sail as an unvaccinated passenger 🥺 But like you stated, people can choose to NOT be vaccinated. Great information and thanks for sharing 😊
We've enjoyed both Carnival and Royal, but find that the "fun" is just more present with Carnival... though the shorter cruises can definitely turn into a party. We prefer longer, quieter cruises overall, ha ha... :P

Hey guys how are you doing back to back for the 14 days when I thought that wasn't going to happen until after November 2021 according to the CDC or when did they change there minds again. Thanks and enjoy your cruise all the best
I think that was floating around at one point, but the current CDC guidance allows back-to-back cruises, as long as unvaccinated folks re-test. Vaccinated don't seem to have any special requirements.

My Miami hotel tip: The Holiday Inn on 36th Street on the North side of the airport will let you park your car there during the cruise FOR FREE provided that 1. You stay at least ONE night with them 2. You take their shuttle to the cruise port ( right next to the iHop )

I have never been on a carnival ship and I really want to try. Wish they were sailing from Charleston NC now. .So far I have only been on Royal Caribbean.

Quick question…you showed a little screen shot when speaking on the topic of casino tournaments stating that they would offer a $25 free play credit…will this be offered to everyone?
And secondly, have you heard anything regarding what capacity carnival will be sailing with? I cannot find any info… My family is booked on the 8/21 sailing on the Horizon.

That was from John Heald's Facebook post. We haven't seen any clarification on that, so we might venture into the casino on our 7/4 Horizon loop and see. Normally a "free play" means what... like if you bet $25, they'll give you $25 to match, I think? Sounds like it would be available to everyone, with that wording. Last check, I believe Carnival was selling to 50%, but John said he would be releasing the actual numbers just ahead of our sailing!! :D
One thing I’ve been listening for (and I’m confused about) is whether or not vaccinated passengers have to test before getting back on the ship after a non-bubble excursion. I heard about the non-vaccinated passengers from the Adventure of the Seas that tested positive after Freeport and were sent home. Not sure what the protocols for Carnival will be with all the testing. Any insight?
The only official information is that no testing is required at all for vaccinated passengers at any point, unless they show signs of sickness. At that point, the cruise line would pop an antigen test. They also haven't said anything about unvaccinated being tested other than prior to cruise, at embark, and at debark, again unless they show symptoms. So there isn't anything official that we've seen specifically related to testing and tours, nope! Time shall tell, I suppose!!

They've only confirmed that FTTF won't be available for July and August, as far as I know. Maaaaaybe things will be more settled by October, fingers crossed!! :P

Faster To The Fun has been discontinued for right now, along with a lot of the "priority" services, but I'm sure it will phase back in for the future at some point! Staggered check-in only for now!!
We have left from Port Miami and stayed at Red Roof Plus+ Miami Airport. I recommend this hotel highly.

Three questions I have is if you have a Carnival transfer from the airport to the cruise port, how do you pick a time to register & if you get there early on the transfer bus what will they have you do? Also, if you are there early is there another part of the port you can wait in so you're not just standing in the parking lot?
Judging by how things went on our cruise two weeks ago, granted that was Royal, but they didn't start the shuttle service until the first check-in slot was open... so if you had an 8am arriving flight, you would most likely wait at the airport until the shuttle buses started running around 10am. I assume they're also hoping that people choose an arrival slot that's appropriate for them... if your flight arrives at noon, you wouldn't select a 10:30am slot... you'd choose 12:30pm or somewhere in that zone, so that the timing lined up. Do the cruise lines provide free PCR tests for passengers who need them? i.e., I am from Canada and would need one when leaving the US.
As far as I know, it's just the antigen tests for now. If it's like our travels to Mexico, the resorts were only covering antigen tests and the guests had to pay for the PCR versions. Curious to see what the cruise lines do, but I'd possibly expect a similar model!!

Carnival isn't doing the muster on your phone, you have to watch it on your TV. You need to go to your muster station first. Also you will only be allowed to purchase 2 drinks if you haven't stopped by your muster station, per John Heald yesterday

Will Carnival be providing the free Room service like they use to?
From what we've heard, room service would be unchanged. Free during the day and pay in the evenings. I know on Royal, the only change was that they would leave the tray outside for you to collect rather than having the person come into your cabin, so we might give that a test on Carnival and see how it goes next week!!
Fully vaccinated here but from uk, not sure if I'll get my cruise at the new year, depending if the UK and USA open up

I put our cards in the little plastic case like the sail and sign cards go in on the lanyard just bigger size for the vaccination cards. Then put them with our passports in my cruise stuff. I got them on Amazon in case someone is looking for them.
That's awesome! We ended up getting some in our most recent Mail Monday batch that will fit our cards. Whew!! :D
You need to add that your phone is to be put in Airplane mode so you do not occur roaming charges from you carrier. Have fun and take lots of video's that we can watch when you got back.
