1) If you need a replacement from a slight bumper accident, good luck with replacing those headlights. And it will probably cost north of $10,000. But that might be pocket change for people that can afford those cars.
2) All plastic headlights fog up. All of us have cars with film that covers the headlights after a couple of years.
Can you imagine trying to remove the film from those spider headlights? Perhaps the car's owners will not care, because they will pay some staffer to spend all day toiling over getting the film off.
So why do car manufacturers use plastic for their headlights?
Because they can mold the plastic into any shape. And it is all about how it looks to get the sale. And when the car is new, the plastic headlights are clean / film free.
Decades ago, when glass headlights were used, they never got covered with film. Cleaning them was as simple as using a wet rag. But with glass, you cannot have the fancy shapes we see in today's cars. So rather than having cars with glass headlights that never get contaminated with film, we all drive around with film on our plastic headlights -- just for their looks.
