Real-world field testing of featured products is why I watch. Hats off to Skip for donating a tasty IPA. I had to stop the video and grab a cold one from the fridge. Bottoms-up!
Explain to me how stainless (which can still rust) is better than aluminum, nickel silver, or brass which are all more corrosion resistant. Why do so many other bartender knives use brass? The stainless liners were used because stainless steel was cheaper to use than brass.
I love the looks of the Barlow with the Top lifter!! I came so close to ordering one yesterday but didn't pull the trigger. They have a beautiful Green Stag Barlow as well. Thanks for sharing!!
I was wondering what the Shield was I bought two of them one for my granddaughter and one for myself and between the two the four blades vary from 2 to 6 pull so she’s getting the 4 and 6 and I’m keeping the two and five For me it’s just eye candy anyway She’s a bartender lol What can you say It’s a Bear so the handles are beautiful the grinds are so so and the pivot ranges from inoperable to no spring tension I have found that Red Hill and Bear will exchange a really bad knife without a problem They are good people Like you Tobias Seriously their customer service is great that’s why I am closing in on a dozen Bear Barlows Great video TG
Lovely knife. I was excited to learn about the beerlows and then decided my NKC Lone Ranger knife already is one, while I scope out what else is available at least. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
Really nice Barlow. They look great and I agree that they missed an opportunity to make the caplifter into a proper screwdriver. Thanks for sharing this one!
I have since learned the pointy end was designed to “shotgun” a beer can. If you’re not familiar with shotgunning, it is when you puncture a beer can near the base of the can then pop open the can so you can quickly chug the entire can.
I completely agree about the brass liners, I think they would have been a nice touch on this one. The shape of that cap lifter is a little strange, I'm just trying to figure out if it has an actual purpose or not. Never seen one like that before. But I really like the covers on this knife, as well as the stamp on the bolster. And that main blade snaps shut like a rat trap! 😆Cheers, buddy!
The bone has the colour of Guinness pooring into the glass, now that made me thirsty. It really would have been nice if they had shaped the tip into a screwdriver, but there is the option to do it yourself. Pretty good fit and finish on this one, the strong springtension is not a gamebreaker for me. Thank you for the review Tobias.
It is a good looking knife. The clip point looks good and the cap lifter works which says something. I think the end of that cap lifter will be a good oyster knife. Crack open a Corona crack open an oyster and have a good time. Nice review Tobias thank you.
Definitely restocked I ordered mine a few days ago . I am excited for this one . Although after watching this I'm already disappointed in the cap lifter blade . Just seams lazy or like they didn't put enough thought into it . But I will be adding the flat head to mine as soon as I get it .
My only bear and son knife is a modern folder I got from the monthly knife club, for $35. It’s pretty cool actually but that was before I fell under the slip joint spell. Im looking into getting one of the newer USA made shrade heritage generational series, the bruin , and I heard that maybe bear and sons were actually producing them for shrade. I wonder if that’s true. 😢 anyways, I love barlows they’re were my first knife back in the day, the imperial with the brown handle… *stares off into space
You can tell your a bottle beer guy, that point is to poke holes in cans so you can shotgun a beer like a MANN 😂. Bear & son makes a great USA product and mine has lasted great threw many MANNNNLY nights. Good honest review
I’d been getting it and ordering from it regularly, but they’ve stopped sending it out the past three or four months. You’d think they’d keep better track of their regular customers.
Mine is absolutely garbage. Cracked cover, stupid hard to open (it was well beyond a 10), horrible grind for the cutting edge, and so on. I've had no luck with Bear & Son.
My last comment was somewhat short and to the point. My apologies for the brevity as this is an important point. I have seen/heard similar comments. I would definitely return it. It's a pity that their QC still remains questionable. It would seem to me, if you're getting the complaints then you would step it up a notch. I feel it is more important to complain to the retailer and return the knife to the retailer than to the company as the retailer has more skin in the game than the end user. But I would also complain directly to Bear & Son. This type of quality control is unacceptable. And SMKW should hold Bear & Son accountable for poor QC on a special factory offering! In fact they should hold to higher standard than just an off the shelf model as they also have skin in the game.
The tip on the bottle opener is for shotgunning beer cans
Yep. I have since learned that. I'll pin this post just to keep it on top. Thanks, Zach.

The color shading of the Bear & Son scales looks very nice, thanks for showing it to us, Tobias.
Stainless liners are better considering exposure to beer and rinsing. Great video. Thank you 😊

Nice review Tobias, perfect timing on this video! I received my beer tender in the mail today!!!!!
Really nicely made knife, definitely heading in the right direction for a USA alternative.atb paddy.
Cool little knife. Thanks very much for sharing and Cheers!
I was very tempted to get this one. Really cool addition Tobias! Great video my friend!
You can find some great stuff at their factory sale every November at the plant. Lots of 2nds and first quality knive for sale.
That would make for a cool visit!
That amber smooth bone is beautiful.
The cap lifter would be good for punching holes in cans for the purpose of shotgun chugging! It was popular with the kids back when I used to drink 😄

That makes it a multitool :). That is a good looking fun knife, but wish it was more RR-like price wise. thanks Tobias!
According to TC from SMKW, the stout tip on the cap lifter is used to puncture a hole in the beer can to shotgun the beer
That’ll work. Too bad I normally just drink bottled beer.
I was wondering what the Shield was

What can you say It’s a Bear so the handles are beautiful the grinds are so so and the pivot ranges from inoperable to no spring tension
I have found that Red Hill and Bear will exchange a really bad knife without a problem They are good people
Like you Tobias
Seriously their customer service is great that’s why I am closing in on a dozen Bear Barlows

I just ordered the beer tender on Sunday.
Very nice merican trio.
Pretty good deal for an American made Barlow, maybe the bottle opener point design is for popping tabs on cans of Beer and soda.🤔
Really nice Barlow. They look great and I agree that they missed an opportunity to make the caplifter into a proper screwdriver. Thanks for sharing this one!
Is the cap lifter end a beer can tab lifter? Thank you for the review.

Very cool I have a similar knife a GEC Beer Scout in golden draft acrylic in my collection

I'm glad you are drinking good beer. I think it's barley on the bolster and not wheat but they look a lot alike
Barley! Yeah, that would make more sense! If I'm going to drink something that's bad for me, It should at least be good!
I have a new Colonel Coon Barlow.😊

Contact SMKW and return it!

@KnifeChatswithTobias I bought a couple of Bear & Son knives. Both were returned due to poor quality. Sad that China can do better for$15.
