Great review! I have owned the Aquatimer for exactly three years. It’s my daily. I like everything about this watch. It’s my first diver and the unique bezel is what sold me. I prefer an internal bezel and no one makes a bezel system like this. I love the rubber strap. I prefer rubber due to I’m pretty active and I commute to work on a bicycle. The watch, as you said keeps excellent time; particularly if you are active. I was hesitant about the movement being ETA , based but it’s excellent, and I have no issues at all, but the good news is that they do now offer an in house movement. Will be interesting to see how it helps with the sale of this watch. It is understandable that people that are going to spend this kind of money want an “In House” but this watch’s is really about the looks, bezel, and start and as you said the finishing on the case and face are excellent. Very easy to read at a glance. I do have the steel bracelet. Bracelet is very nice and easy to switch out out without tools and adjust without tools but lacks a quick adjustment or on the fly extensions. That’s the week point and if you prefer a dive watch on a bracelet then this isn’t your watch, not unless they address the on the fly aspect that everyone is doing these days. But as I said I prefer the rubber strap and it’s top notch!
thank you so much for the compliment. i hope you find the review useful. the eta movement is not negative thing, there are too much snobbery in watch community. for tool watch like this, its actually a good thing because you can play it rough with it and if anything happens, you can always service or fix it anywhere. they also regulate the movement to high standard so it achieves good accuracy. and with closed caseback, you wont be able to see even if they put in house movement.
Love the design and overall look as it’s unique (compared to the common type looking divers out there ) … I juts hope IWC add a In-House Movement. Still love it
i am sure once they re-release this line, they will put in in house movement. we have seen they started to put in house movement in pilot line. its just a matter of time. the only thing that will improve once they do that is the power reserve. the new in house movement from iwc is 72 hours and this one with eta is 42 hours only. but the service cost is going to be more expensive with in house movement. the design of this watch is so cool because it doesnt look like conventional diver. its such a shame that people do not even consider this piece just because it comes with eta movement. i hope my small review can give new perspectives to some prospective buyers out there.
