The magazine with the floor plate is an amazing invention , why would you say it’s crap . Obviously you haven’t hired with it . It takes 5 shots and closes properly unlike the latest slot in mag on x bolt I have both and prefer the floor plate
There's so little information on the 'net regarding Browning's AB3...its high time now that someone (you or I) produced a more in-depth production revealing the secrets that make the AB3 probably the very best bolt action design to date. In fact, the AB3 brings to the bolt action a level of excellence not seen since the 98 mauser.
AB3 doesn't have a plastic trigger. The AB3 uses micro-cradle design using precision cast main sear and trigger sear. The plastic trigger you're thinking of is merely a nylon fulcrum lever that will nudge the trigger sear gate clear for the main sear to fall. This AB3 trigger assembly also uses target grade springs and the fulcrum lever uses a music wire as a dual role of pull weight and lever return. Its very similar to the Winchester 52 micro trigger movement. In my 40 years of service, the AB3 has set a new standard. I've traded off several prized rifles and replaced them with AB3.
There's a world of difference between plastic and structured nylon. Nylon doesn't wear out and needs no lubrication. For me, its AB3 from now on. Its so well designed, there's no need for aftermarket junk.
I wish my ab3 had a floor plate instead I'm a hunter and I don't like how the mag protrudes from the gun I don't do tactical reloads with my bolt action gun and I doubt you do either
In the UK (and other EU countries) you need something called a permit (which you need to apply for and the government will not let you get more than 2-3 guns without a reason) to be able to use guns and you cant own a military looking gun without a reason for it :)
I used to think the same thing but most countries let you have rifles. Pistols are the more regulated arm. It may not be as easy as just going to walmart filling out a form and leaving with a rifle but you can get one legally.
Why, why is the detachable box magazine, introduced by Browning FIRST while everyone else had fixed floor plates a bad feature?? It is a hunting rifle not a FAL or AR. If you can't finish your game within 2 shots perhaps you shouldn't be hunting. My 20+ year old A bolt with BOSS in 308 groups well under .40 MOA with Federal Match grade SB JHP 168gr. My 300 WM A bolt w/BOSS groups similarly.
Clarkecars --Amen! It's not like it takes that much longer to drop the latch and remove the magazine. But an x-bolt owner talks like you bought the car with square wheels! Like you said, it's a hunting rifle, and 4 misses is God telling you to learn how to shoot.
I like small cap mags too. However, when you've tags for roo's, and the paddock is full of them, you can drop 6-10 roo's in one go. if I were deer/fox hunting, yes, I wouldn't mind any small cap floor plate or mag like this rifle.
The X Bolt never took off and after a couple of years became heavily discounted to move them. On top of that, Browning decided to then 'dump' the Browning A-bolt 11 to help sell the X-bolt which also failed! Then, they went even further in going backwards by deciding to produce a budget, cheap rifle, the A-Bolt 3 to compete with the el cheapo Remington 783, the Winchester XPR and the Ruger 'plastic' American! Why? They got it the first time with the A-Bolt 11!!! You had an all metal, walnut or synthetic stocked rifle with a top loading or hinged floor plate magazine that also had the option of having preloaded box mags to insert if need be. Why you see this as a backward move is beyond me as you had the best of both worlds???? Last week Browning began heavily discounting the A-bolt 3, like the X-bolt, to try and sell them. Why they never stuck with the A-bolt 11 that they got right the first time (and is now being proven by dumping the X-bolt and A-bolt 3 at discounted prices) is beyond me? When I first heard that they were going to stop production of the A-Bolt 11, for a budget version, I raced out and bought three A-bolt 11 Stainless Stalkers in .308, .300WSM and .338 win Mag and have never looked back! Unlike Browning today, who must be scratching their heads, thinking why on earth did they even consider ditching a superior product for two lesser ones in the first place? Value for money, the A-bolt 11 was already great value for money!
Great rifle, I've got it in the 30-06 with the Leopold scope and couldn't be happier
What a good no nonsense review, was in the market for a rifle and this helped a lot, cheers Pete, more power to your elbow.
Great video. Very informative and thorough. You covered everything from cost to comparable rifles. Thanks and God bless.

MEAlstonIII But...It has a plastic trigger. I'm not big on plastic trigger guards, I really dislike plastic triggers...

There's a nice breakdown on the AB3 trigger system on Facebook...AB3 Secrets Unveiled
Just out of curiosity, what do you have to do in the UK to get a suppressor? Thanks.
Easy chap, you only have to be a direct descendant of the Queen
Comes as a slot on your license, but most issuing officials want you to have a mod
i thought the UK was disarmed?
+Merritt McDowell Keep listening to the lies the NRA tells.....

Nick West the 2-3 gun thing is bollocks mate, you can own as much as you can afford and store legally
