I have seen many productions of Oliver, I was in one myself, I have never seen the more perfect Oliver than Benjamin Pajak and Julian Lerner as The Artful Dodger are both amazing. I bet they end up adding shows, the run is way too short in my opinion.
I'd say Dodger is age appropriate - Julian Lerner is 15. It makes his relationship with Fagin a bit more dark, too. Jack Wild played the role for several years, and starred as Dodger in the movie at the age of 18. I'd agree that some of the staging is a little on the community theater side, but again - consider the talent! Plus it's New York city center, so its more a concert than a full production show. You know they also have only 2-3 weeks to rehearse the whole show as well.
Yeah I agree, and I like the idea of Dodger being a little older. No longer a cute kid who can get away with stuff because of his age, but not quite old enough to intimidate people as a dangerous, hardened criminal. An awkward inbetween that every teenage boy goes through I guess
...well, maybe somebody can explain to me (sorry but i have seen this vid several times and always the same question...) why in such a good dancer group there is one so bad (compare to the rest) . The guy wearing black, kind of asian face! I feel sorry if he reads this 😋
This choreography is absolutely spastic. It doesn’t correspond to human thought. The frenetic look-what-I-can-do rotation of tricks makes it look like they’re on a rotating Freakshow stage. What are these characters saying to Oliver?
they are showing him the chaos and unlifting life he has been missing his entire life, this number is just a lot of fun, and they are showing him that.
@@cameronmurray580 It appears that the other characters aren't even looking at Oliver, but instead doing crazy acrobatic moves that can tear a groin muscle. They're posing to and presenting to the audience instead of Oliver. They look like they're child actors auditioning for producers in the audience. So very odd. This needs to be restaged.
@@jesuspectre9883 it doesn't "need" to do anything, these are professional choreographers, directors and performers, this is also just a rehearsal, the town people are just getting along with their day, they are doing actions to the audience to bring them into the experience and make them feel included
I'm surprised by this take. This is an introduction to the city of London, with all its chaos and activity. I think this is the message, and it's very well done.

You're judging a rehearsal. The scene in the actual production is quite wonderful, as is Dodger. Not all of the production works, but the scenes that do are very good
@@C0rv1dBon3Z I know that, but he was short and looked like a kid. That’s why many believe Dodger is supposed to be young. Whenever I’ve seen a professional production the role has always been played by a late teen/young adult.
@@smurf902 oh i know haha, im just saying broadly compared to a full scale broadway production, nycc is a bit more toned down, due to the nature of only having 12 days to rehearse
So much talent here ! Anyone succeeding to dance, act and sing that good at the same time is a fully completed artist 🤩
Most of those kids are right out ot THE MUSIC MAN.
YESSS!! I was in both of those showsss! I’m the one in the denim shirt
Saw it Sunday and was awesome. The smaller scale worked perfectly.Put it in a bigger house ans let it run!!! Bravo
Aw! They are all so talented ❤
consider yourself guys the most talented people and actors ...that was amazing
Such a wonderfully talented group! Great work!!

Julian Lerner is extremely good but his voice (on this occasion) wasn't loud enough to dominate.
I adore that kid 💎✨
All such pros, even the young actors/singers/dancers
Dedication pays off
Isso é que é ARTE!👏❤❤
Still my favorite!!
Amazing !
🥺 beautitul !
HOW CAN THEY JUMP AND SING AT THE SAME TIME 😱😱😱
Lovely job lads
Superbe !!! 👏👏👏
Can I get a DVD somewhere? I live in Europe, but it is so amazing!..
He is he dude in yes day!!
Magnífico ❤
Nice job
Quanto talento parabéns sucesso
Well, I don‘t think I can afford a trip from switzerland abroad. Is this beautiful production having a CD release? Someday?
So cute!
Oh, Sam Duncan and Neo Del Corral, who played Billy Elliot in Paramount Theater Aurora.
Michael...great dancer...
Hope Dodger was marking, as he had little vocal presence.
he was
Very nice choreographing. Alas and a pity that the audio quality and volume are lacking.
Very good!!! Much young talent. Dodger needs some more volume though :)
I have playd i the play as the artful Dodger ehen i was young 16 yers old. in a longer musical.

I think Jack mentions in interviews and his autobiography that he was around the age of 15-16, but I totally agree with everything else
the squeaking of the shoes is making me physically violent
Who choreographed? This is next level.
No one does it like jack wild
a good number...but a shame you can't hear the lead singer....
It's not wise to belt out everything in rehearsal
Hard to hear! Where are the mics?
It's a rehearsal. 🙄
Not an authentic representation of Victorian London, but the lead is very talented
CON-sider Yourself.
The Oliver Actor is perfect.. however the Dodger actor looks 25. I'm sure he's a great actor but definitely not right for the part of Dodger..
Im doing a theatre and want to go for dodger but the problem is im a girl and im 12 so the chances are low lol 😂
I’m a girl and I got Dodger! As long you got that cockney accent down and TONS of energy, go for it!!!!
Really good but the cockney accent wasn’t there
It's a long way from Peter Coe........
The key is way too low and Dodger is too quiet.
He was marking
Hopefully they can fix the accents before opening…
funny

OY. Pajak as Oliver is terrific..but WHO cast a Dodger who cannot sing? And the bad community theater staging and choreography is dreadful...
i mean its not really meant to be a show... its New york city center, so its more a concert than a full production show. You know they also have only 2-3 weeks to rehearse the whole show as well.
@@kachang7865 I’m so glad you brought some context to this ‘performance’. I loved it!
he can sing. he was just quiet in this video
Dodger was terrible. I’m so confused.
Ur joking. don’t come for dodger like that- he was perfect on charm and acting and voice.
That Dodger wasn't just too tall and too old but he also can't sing or act....is this supposed to promote the show or warn people against attending..?
You’re thinking of the movie. Dodger is supposed to be a teen/young adult in the show. This young man is good. He’s marking in rehearsal.
You're judging a rehearsal. The scene in the actual production is quite wonderful, as is Dodger. Not all of the production works, but the scenes that do are very good
They're both phenomenal....been seeing shows since 1989. Trust. Go see it.
I mean, Jack Wild turned 15 during the making of the film, it’s only because he looks younger, if you don’t believe me, search it.

Absolutely horrible staging! No imagination, no movement for the first half of the song. Fire the director and choreographer.
again, its a concert more than a show, as its new york city center... so minimal choreo and its one song....
@@kachang7865they dance a lot in this show, believe me. This is just one snippet
