Come on guys, It's easy to work it out - SAFE Dose = 1.25g \ 1250 ltr = 0.001 x 25 (25 = the size of your tank in ltrs) = 0.025g, WOW 2.5 hundreths of a gram, so it's a 40th of a gram for my 25 ltr tank
I use Prime because of all the things it does, You can pour a cap full into the tank as you add the water from a water change, If you have a 20 gallon tank, 1 cap full is enough to treat the water.
I really want to get into using safe but I don't understand why they couldn't make it the powder version of prime? Such as the heavy metals part? What's the point of using safe if the fish still die from any heavy metals? I know people use it but wonder if it's still taking risk of not being fully protected like prime would be.
I understand that water conditioners that removes ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, has a detrimental effect on bacteria populations, especially anaerobic bacteria?
According to Seachem technical support, Prime does not remove heavy metals it only converts them into salts and if the aquarium’s PH becomes acidic for whatever reason it will convert back into the active heavy metals.
For the longest time I used api stress coat + it took care of chlorine chlorimine, heavey metals, slime coat and also has aloe Vera to help with healing injured fish. As my fishroom grew so did my water conditioner bill!!. I switched to safe, and I haven’t noticed any difference with the fish….now I wonder about heavey metals. Maybe I should dose once a month with prime or api stress coat for the metals?
I'm sceptical about the heavy metals claim if I'm totally honest. Especially as they say it's only effective up to 'trace' levels and will not divulge how it works. Same thing with the slime coat. How much faster does Prime help to regenerate a fishes slime coat versus natural regeneration. Seachem either don't know or won't tell. I'll stick with Safe as I am convinced that you were right all along and they offer exactly the same benefits. If you really must use Prime over Safe, look into Seachem Pond Prime. It is the same liquid formula but more concentrated.
I have used Prime for many years starting when I had a 90 gallon. Unfortunately, due to living situation, I'm stuck with only being able to have several nano tanks ranging from 3-10 gallons and I still use it.
Hi Jay i live in New Jersey and we have chloramines, chlorine, and nitrates in my tap water. I rasie Discus been doing this about 30 years, 20 years ago they started putting chloramines in our tap water, so i bought a 7 stage ro/di system, love the system but i have a lot of large tanks. I was thinking of trying prime, i use a storage system, where i store the water in 55 gallon brute food grade garbage cans, which i heat up to 86 degrees and add minerals i buy from Germany, about 90-TDS. would this be a problem using prime, the water sits at least 24 hours, my tap water's ph is 6.6 hardness is about the same out of the tap 90-TDS, I just don't want to lose any Discus, i raise these Discus up from eggs. I feed them live Blackworms they are very spoiled. I would really like to try the prime just a little nervous. Thank You Jay. Joe H Navy Seabee
Hi jay ,thnks for good video..im using seachem prime at moment..i both seachem safe ..but i litle be scare .its normal the horroble smell?that is why i don't use untill know.
Guy using my 5-- 75 gals n sll I'd good so far. They think help me with s*** hole of a lot through cycling with fish in it prime detoxifys ammonia.. P.s I'm only at like 1 minute into the video I don't know if you mention but just in case you don't use this Prime with stability
I use prime but its hard to believe that a capful does 50g. I mean i know thats what it says but thats alot of water for 1 little capful. So sometimes i use API stress coat plus where i use multiple cap fulls for same amount. I dont know. Maybe physiological for me?
I have a problem with safe, used it every 2 days on my 120 gallons high level of nitrite and some ammonia are present all the time. It doesn't seem to work at all
Very nicely produced video! Your narration is clear, concise, and well written. I appreciate that your video has been planned out ahead of time, which seems rare for TH-cam videos👍. Unfortunately, I'm still confused about which to use for my situation. Maybe you will have some advice, if not, no problem😊! I breed bristlenose plecos and I feed them multiple fresh veggies every day🥒🥬🥦🍄. As a consequence, my water gets really mucked up with "veggie slime." Even though each of my six 20 gallon tanks has a sponge filter, a HOB and air stone oxygenation, I still have to do 25% to 50% water changes every day to maintain the water quality. The water gets super cloudy and the filter units get clogged with a thick mucky residue. It's expensive using Prime, but it seems to work and my babies are thriving. Could I switch to Safe and save some money? Btw, how does anyone know if they have heavy metals in their water? And, yes, I know I probably overfeed my babies, but I just want them to be happy and healthy💝. It's just a passionate hobby for me. I'm sure not making much money off of them😂. Veggies are expensive! Sorry for the long post😖.
Will always stick with prime. Never had any issues does everything and then some. I waste so much money on chemipure, purigen salts buffers etc etc ,the cost of prime is really not that bad for me to switch to safe.
Thinking I keep cray fish and shrimp and 10 different species of tetra/danio/rasbora, so I'm thinking removing hevey metals and promoting slim coat is the best option for me so I'm sticking with prime 😉👍💯 thanks for the info and the update man 👍👍💯
Randomly came across this video, I had a bottle of prime that I was using it was down to the bottom of the bottle. When I opened it it had a smell that came off it, I used it thinking it didn't expire. Super cloudy water after the change and lost three fish. Anyone know what might have happened here
Hi I need advice about my fish tank which I only have a frog and 2 snails in it I always use Seachem Prime and for a while it worked great about 2 days after I do a water change once a week. Afterwards, I check my levels and my Cl2 mg/L levels goes up to 0.8 - 1.5? Not sure why this doing that? I have a 10 - gallon tank for a froggy and I lost one of snail. I been putting a lot more of the Prime in because of this I am not sure why it doing this??? Thank you
I would choose prime, because all it takes is one for all… if you are obvious, you know this stuff is not cheap so you don’t mind spending the money as long as you don’t overdo it but like I said, I will go with prime because that’s all you have to add is prime if that’s all you want to add
Seachem looks to be one of the best on the market. I use fulval water conditioner only because I get it free which dose the job nicely and has many of the same benefits. Great content as normal
Excellent information Sir. Well done. Plus didn't know it doesn't expire... Honestly i didn't know that about safe and was thinking as you mentioned it's powder version of prime. Learnt alot from your video.. I recommend came across a brand new water treatment from A P I called Aqua Essential maybe you could do a review on it?
Its been proven that neither affect ammonia nitrates and nitrites even seachem stability is snake oil guys on the reef forums did experiments and found really surprising results, honestly its a shame how much snake oil is being pushed in this hobby
I been using prime since day one, it works for me and my fish, the price is good for me. So as the old saying goes “ if is not broke why try to fix it “
I have 2 55 gallon drums that I fill with tap water on Sunday morning. I put an air stone in each one that is attached through a hole drilled in the center of each lid. Come Saturday morning, I do my water changes. Repeat. I have never used water conditioners 🤷♂️
All well and good, unless your water company starts to add Chloramine which your aging Won't Remove. (The Primary Reason for choosing to add Chloramine.)
Every time I use prime during my fish in cycle, fish are still gasping at the surface or laying at the bottom. I am also dosing with seachem stability and I even added a body of safestart api
API Safestart is neutralizing the Prime. Stick to Prime and Stability; and stop attempting "Fish In" Cycling. You'll get a faster "Cycle" using Prime to dechlorinate, then Stability while Keeping your Ammonia at 2.0ppm for about 2 weeks, by then you should start finding Nitrite and then in the 3 week you'll find NitrAte.
Its doesnt detoxify then. Others say it removes. I read about the 48 hour thing. How do we know what to use when different things are often said. Ears still recovering from that bell sound effect
Prime.... Always! So easy to use, it's like a safety blanket for aquarium hobbyists.
Great video. What's up with the beeping out.
Can you use BOTH at the same time in our tanks?
I use Prime because of all the things it does, You can pour a cap full into the tank as you add the water from a water change, If you have a 20 gallon tank, 1 cap full is enough to treat the water.

What's the point of using safe if the fish still die from any heavy metals? I know people use it but wonder if it's still taking risk of not being fully protected like prime would be.
I used Prime for a fish in cycle and it worked, I had no clue what the cycle was and learned as I went along but it saved my fish.
I got a big tank a while back, found safe and never looked back. Just bought some special spoons to dose safe on my small tanks
That is awesomeness
I want to know what spoons and where this guy purchased them, thanks 😊.
I understand that water conditioners that removes ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, has a detrimental effect on bacteria populations, especially anaerobic bacteria?
No it doesn’t remove it just detoxing it.
I use Safe but I also age all my water before use and have planted aquariums. Nice informational video. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Thank you so much.
I used to do that but then I ended up with tanks that were to big still think its good to age water when possible
According to Seachem technical support, Prime does not remove heavy metals it only converts them into salts and if the aquarium’s PH becomes acidic for whatever reason it will convert back into the active heavy metals.
All of this data was provided by Seachem and confirmed prior to publication
For the longest time I used api stress coat + it took care of chlorine chlorimine, heavey metals, slime coat and also has aloe Vera to help with healing injured fish. No just keep doing what you are doing
Jay Wilson thank you jay!🙂👍🏻
Prime. I have 0 problems. Think the slime coat protection is very important. Use what works for u. Thanks on the content. Much appreciated.
Boom
I used prime conditioner for me is the best for my betta acuarium
Used to use prime but changed to safe, really happy with it plus the added bonus I haven’t bought a new one in ages
Yes, seachem safe last forever and I do water changes every Sunday!
I like fritz gaurd, my discus seem to feel good compared to not using with remineralized water
For me it's pretty simple. I use safe for my big tanks and prime for smaller tanks. Idk why it needs to be one or the other.
how much of prime to use for a 5 gallon tank, thank you
I used to use prime. But now i use Neutral Regulator to prevent PH swings.
I have a carbon filter on my house. I use API stress coat plus as insurance. Any thoughts on this product?
I'm sceptical about the heavy metals claim if I'm totally honest. Especially as they say it's only effective up to 'trace' levels and will not divulge how it works.

how much to use for a 5 gallon tank, thank you
@serpentrae the smaller bottles are labeled as 3 drops per gallon. It is the same stuff just different packaging so it should be 15 drops
You are using the wrong wording, none of them REMOVES ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate... it detoxifies them temporarily but DOESN'T remove them.
I got a container of prime when the plague started not knowing how bad it was gonna get trying to get products. Still got a ton of it.
Safe not prime
Doesn’t expire
Prime has always worked for me and I use the K.I.S.S method .
Bang bang

Thank you Jay
Can safe be used to recharge purigen like prime?
I’ve always used prime but I might have to look into safe!
Whoop whoop
Hey can I use aquaguard RO water which has Active Copper & Zinc For My Aquarium will fishes thrive?
I didn't know it helped slim coat but I do know I always use it
I use Prime all the time and it has never let me down.
Thank you for this information!!🙌
Can you use both together prime and safe
I use both... Prime in my 40 gallon and under tanks. Safe in my 75 gallon and larger aquariums. I have chloramine so I double dose Safe
Thank you.. I was wondering if you could use both together
@@craigbroderick8935 Just to be clear, I DO Not use Prime and Safe together in the same tank...
Ahhh ok thanks
I was literally trying to figure out what all the difference between all these conditioners were just last night!
Awesome!
I use both since safe don't have for slime coat I've always thought it was the same . Fish are fine
Yeah not the same. Glad they are fine
I think I’m really confused on why the beeping noises. Are we not supposed to know something?
LOL
Absolutely brilliant video on these 2 products great explanation Jay, I use Safe so Safe gets my vote 👍💯
Great opinion video!! I use Stress Coat. Same as Prime but more for less!! I also subbed!!
Thanks for the sub!

The one you use ☺️
@@Jaywil07 Ah, clever!
I am using Microbe-lift Xtreme. So far work fine. Never try Seachem prime and Fritz complete before. lol
Why does he keep beeping out the part about the federal maximum chlorine

I use Hikari Ultimate - great coating on net when transferring fish. Neutralizes everything bad.
