I was one of the testers for the quest 3, not sure if I’m allowed to talk about it now or not, but basically you hit a lot of the points that were brought in testing
@bltelysian I believe that these "issues" were not considered due to economic profitability, and it's well known that the sale of accessories generates additional profitability.
@@lawrencerbe2661I’ve never tried the pro but I watched a vid comparing them and honestly the pro looks shite in comparison. I just got the quest 3 and it’s great, I’m glad I waited.
One of the best tech reviews I've seen in a while, no joke. Straight to the point, nice pace and that stunt you pulled with the mic was chefs kiss 🤌🏻 Great job man! Thank you for the review
I have had my Quest 3 for about a week now and about that headstrap- It took a good amount of time to figure it out, but I was able to get the default headstrap to get pretty comfy. The biggest tip is to not tighten the back too much, if you start getting a headache you NEED to loosen it. From what I learned you should rely on the top strap to secure it to your head.
This is useful information for anyone that has bought one recently thank you for the comment! I really did try to find the sweetspot between the headset being too loose and it causing my head to explode but i just couldnt get it! Perhaps my head is a weird shape! XD
@@Jaylikestofly I did buy one for my Quest 2, I could never get that original strap to work so I caved in to buy a better one. I thought I would need to do the same for my Quest 3 but was surprised by how comfortable I could get it, everyone who has tried my headset (who also had a Quest 2 with default strap) said that the Quest 3 default is WAYYYY better. I'm sure a first/third party pro strap would be better, but it would need to be a massive improvement to be worth any money for me.
@@RyanClifford No matter what headset my BF wears, it always looks like it is moved a bit too far to the right side of his head. It doesn't affect his enjoyment apparently, it does look really funny tho lol
It sucks that these things are so much money, but Facebook just for some damn reason can't afford a design team to create a comfortable enough strap that isn't 80 damn dollars on top of 500
I have both the Quest 3 and the Playstation VR2 and I use my Quest 3 to mostly play Mixed Reality games and for full VR games I play my Playstation VR2 as I really love the immersion as the headset has haptics in it which adds to the immersion and my mother always uses my Quest 3 for painting and doing art with
One of the best, most objective Quest 3 reviews I’ve seen. I’ve had mine about 3 mos mow & it’s my first VR experience. I’ve been blown away with how good it is but I still don’t know much about pcvr or any other headsets. And I somehow manage to get by with the stock strap for as long as the battery lasts. This was helpful, thanks!
Had the q3 for about a month now, it was my first headset and first time ever trying a headset. I have to say im really blown away. Its hard for me to judge the pros and cons compared to other headset, but overall ive been loving it. The battery life was extremely lackluster, but a battery bank that i already had and a wire fixes that. The faceplate was very uncomfortable at first, but i think after wearing it for awhile its kind of worn in and i dont find it to be that bad. 8/10 for me.
@@RyanClifford You're welcome, it was pretty educational and I showed my siblings this because we are all big vr fans and I recently got a quest 3 so this helps with it a bit :]
This is the first of your videos I've seen. I think you did great! I appreciate how you clearly specify what you received and bought. I would watch more hardware reviews from you.
this is one of the most concise and thorough reviews of any product that ive ever watched you have a knack for reviews, i hope you make some more new sub
I'm an licensed optician and I just want to let everyone know that if you wear glasses, Zenni Optical will make your RX in lenses that will fit in the inserts for the Quest 3. I had them make a set for my Rift 2 back in the day and they worked great. I was very happy with how it turned out. My professional opinion about the options available on those lenses, you'll want the oil-resistance. They offer anti-fog, I've never seen an anti-fog coating or product that actually worked. Oil-resistant will minimize the smudges and fingerprints you get on the lenses, however, and for me is the winning option over anti-fog. Zenni charges about 50 USD.
@kevinbastidas1540 It's not an ad, I'm not affiliated with Zenni. I think their glasses quality sucks dicks. Their lens quality is fine, though, and wearing glasses with a headset sucks. I wanted to let people know this is an option.
So true on the head strap. Got the Bobovr M3 Pro since it’s one of the most popular. Night and day difference. I can use it for hours now without discomfort. Only complaint about the M3 pro is it’s not as comfortable when trying to lay down flat in bed to watch movies / videos while looking up. It’s still totally doable but there’s a thick plastic part behind your head where the external battery connects
Great video and review! I have the Quest 3 for about a month now. Having owned an Index and Quest 2 previously, the Quest 3 is undeniably my favorite headset. It is such a versatile device that it is really hard not to recommend. I think something that I wish more people would talk about is using it as a wireless pcvr device. Going from an Index to a Quest 3, being wireless is now a huge priority for me in future headset especially if you’re particularly active (Nofio please continue to improve). Overall great video!
Yeah the wireless is something i deffo should have talked about in hindsight. Its esp good if you have a 40 series gpu because you can use the AV1 codec in virtual desktop. Thanks for the comment :)
So few people talk about link with the quests, i have a quest 2 that i love to use linked, i doubt I'll go to lighthouses now because i can just wirelessly connect to my computer, no wires is a huge check box for me honestly
This is my first VR headset and I am literally in love with it. Ive already ordered a new strap and battery packs lol. The strap that came with it wasnt as bad with me as it is for you. Yea its uncomfortable but it doesnt interfere with my experience. He is right about the passthrough not being as clear as its shown in recordings but its still pretty awesome as long as youre in a well lit room. Id still recommend getting it for newcomers to VR
Its a great piece of kit! Im glad youre having a great time with it and that the default strap works for you. I absolutley dont regret my purchase i really enjoy using it! Thanks for the comment :)
I upgraded from the original vive to the Quest 3 and boy was that worth it. Wireless PCVR is amazing and the resolution + pancake lenses are amazing. The passthrough is the cherry on top that makes me actually want to wear the headset regularly.
Not sure if you’re aware, but the Quest 2 can also be used as a PCVR device, which applies most of your points against upgrading from the Valve Index, to the Q2 as well. It’s simply not worth dropping an additional $500 for slightly better lenses and pass through.
I pretty much decided already to get a Q3 as my first VR headset and was also thinking about the BOBOVR M3 Pro headstrap. But I just saw that they released an upgraded version called the S3 Pro, which has a battery with double the capacity and also a slightly changed design so that you can lean back in a chair comfortably while wearing it. Haven't tested it yet, but I think I will buy that one and just wanted to leave a comment here to let others know about the upgraded version. 👍
This guy clarified in his description that he got his Quest half a month after its release. Your average person wouldn't have bothered to clarify, and would have just written 4 months. That's when I knew I could trust his review, because he clearly values accuracy of information. I watched the vid and sure enough it was precise and well thought out. Nice work sir!
Thank you so much for the kind words vktrees. Was important to me to be as up front as possible. The only thing in hindsight im annoyed i didnt talk about is using the Quest 3 for PCVR as its another positive for the device. Virtual desktop works great with it. But ill make sure to more thoroughly review the next headset I get (if people want more reviews) to give the whole picture!
Why not do a Q3 follow-up with PCVR wireless and also how it is with movies and pass through, etc? My son wants to live in one, lol having snax and chilling watching TH-cam on the Q2. It would be good to know about the quality, as its a different medoum. As we know oled and similar tech, but how does the lenses affect 4k and 60 fps and all that visual specs, like nits etc. @RyanClifford
I’m right there with you with the pass through. I saw videos and thought “holy shit that’s phenomenal” and when I actually used it I was left there like “huh, so that was a lie” but tbh after getting into better lighting it was actually much better and passable for sure.
I honestly thought the mic would be a lot worse and the modmic would be much better than the built in one, but the external mic barely seemed better than the built in one. It was slightly better, but really not by much.
Yeah i had a feeling someone might notice that bit but when i noticed and thought about it the video was already rendered! In that specific scene i was attempting to find the point where the tracking breaks hence it looking stupid. The clips before that where im shooting at enemies im using the conrollers normally and it stilll would loose tracking every now and then. I probably should have put some text on the screen saying that was me testing it! But i assure you when im playing normally i dont stick the controller behind my head. Thanks for the comment :)
I finally stuck a crowbar into my wallet and ordered a Quest 3 today after watching your video. This is my first try at VR and from your video I understand that I have done the right thing and I know what to do about the issues I'm sure Im about to discover. Good video....good information...and your explainations were so ver clear and helpful. Thank you ! Arno from the coast of Maine USA !!!
Hi Arno! Congratulations on getting your first VR headset! Im glad my videos helped you take the plunge! Some advice as you are new to VR I would say just watch out for motion sickness. Some poeple dont get it when they start but some do (me included). Just make sure that if you start feeling sick to stop playing and take a break. Dont try and push through it. You need to build up your immunity to the motion sickness and get your ''VR legs'' as poeple call it! Thank you for the comment!
I actually don't hate the default strap, I found it very alright, it's not the best but after jostling it around enough and adjusting it I got it to a level where I find it very easy to ignore and put it on, take it off all without any discomfort or issues
I also find the default strap perfectly good. I had originally planned to get a Bobo VR strap but I keep just putting it off because I don't really feel I need it. I'll admit at first I found the default strap downright painful after about an hour of use, but once I learned to adjust it properlyI find it totally comfortable. It's also much easier and faster to put the headset on or take it off than the elite strap with battery I had on my old Quest 2.
@@ToxicGamingFR wouldn't say good because while laying down it tends to not hold well the headset and makes it to go sideways, but basically the only option for that
I also thought so until I got the bobo vr s3 pro. I didn’t like the way my hair would get pulled when adjusting the default strap. It may not be a dealbreaker for most, but once you feel the s3 pro strap there’s no going back
2:38 Of course it doesn’t work, you are not supposed to do that at all 😂. You have to keep your elbow in a straight line parallel to the ground and pull with your shoulder.
Great review! My hand is being forced moving from the index to the quest 3 due to Index reliability issues and lack of parts availability (cables). Having no PCVR wire solves a major issue of reliability in every single VR headset ive used. We'll see how this goes! Perhaps Quest 3 as an HMD as well as Index controllers will be the perfect combo
Considering how low the price dropped for the Quest 2, I'm gonna wait for the same thing when the Quest 3 drops from its 400 to 500 dollar price, just like with when I had my Quest 2, within I'd say like a year or two the price could be as low as 200
It was super cool at first, but once the honeymoon phase wears off, you start to notice all the problems. First of all, it's just way too heavy. The stock strap is barely useable. I tried many third party straps, but none were much better. There's just no getting around the bulk and weight. When looking at a bright object on a darker background, there is a lot of lens flare/glare. I found this very annoying after a while. Because the screen is an LCD, black levels are very washed out. Finally, the pixels were visible to me. Sometimes I could forget about that or not notice it much, but other times, it was glaringly obvious. Battery life is really bad as well. Anyway, that's my two cents. Love the tech, but not the device itself. For me, VR is still not "there". I'll keep waiting.
Great review... I tried a Quest 2 recently, for the first time, and I really enjoyed the experience. I'd imagine the Quest 3 is noticeably superior. The battery life situation would be better if it supported fast charging, but I've read it does not. I have only one main obstacle in investing in this... the number of free or low-cost VR content (apps & games mostly). When I checked at their app store, everything was $20 or more, which I find expensive. Finally, they shouldn't be shipping this thing with 128GB storage, and charge disproportionately for extra storage (like Apple does).
You are absolutely right about the responsibility of the first impression. I asked this myself too. Are they really so short sighted and only see some extra money they can make with accessories? To make VR popular they can't focus enough on comfort.
3 points of feedback. :-) 2:40 Controller tracking: No, this "is not what happens when you use standalone VR". It's a conscious design decision due to the limitations of the chip. The Quest 2 had a very different area / volume covered by its cameras. It was more above and also behind the head of the user. The Q3 tracks more downwards. So this is why there are some tracking issues with older games. However, that said, I agree that it does have these issues and should really be better in that regard. I do wnat proper bow and arrow type gameplay. But we'll have to wait for the Q4 for this... 5:10 How strong the basic headstrap affects you does depend on how you set it up. There can be strong difference in the amount of force it applies. I had to wait a couple weeks for delivery of an alternative headstrap, so I've been using the stock strap for over a month, including longer sessions (not beyond stock battery) and do not have any headache issues. Unless I set it up too tight. Q3 PCVR functionality could have been mentioned.
These are some great points! Thank you for pointing these things out as this is my first review so these are the kind of comments that will help me become better at it :)
Didn't the M3 pro have issues with quest 3 to the point they were useless and only discharged the battery, so they had to make the s3 pro? I had bought the bobo elite mini strap with the plan to get the addon m3 battery system, that was at the same time bobo vr pulled the M3 from sales and shut down the battery pages from their site. The elite strap is very comfortable and good for high movement use but I ended up getting a binbox elite with 2 batteries and charging dock. The batteries last a couple hours each and the strap is comfortable enough to spend hours with it on.
I bought the 512GB model of the Meta Quest 3. For the amount of money paid and the insanely impressive tech this headset contains, someone sitting in the Meta boardroom said..."Lets attach a jockstrap to it for your skull". Seriously? It's like using dental floss to hold a diamond necklace together. Great video and thank you Ryan for being concise in your review and not packing it with meaningless garbage. Keep up the great work, you are a natural.
I've watched at least 10 different reviews videos and have had the quest 3 for about 3 months, and you have made the BEST review. %100 accurate. Also the music slaps😅
2:31 To fix this tracking issue: Go go and archery range and shoot and actual bow loaded with an actual arrow. After a day of fun your muscle memory won't have you pulling back the string past your ear.
While I 1000% think that a upgraded head strap is an excellent upgrade, its worth noting 2 things about the default: 1 - Its not as bad for some people, I have used it for 90 min+ at a time without issue since day 1. and 2 - You know what you cant easily do with the elite or halo style straps? Lay down. the default is 100x more comfortable when laying down or laying back on a cushioned chair, IMO. That said, I'm definitely getting a new strap soon. Something worth noting that you didn't seem to mention, is if you have an older device like a Rift or Rift S, or a Vive, or if you want to jump into VR for the first time and already have a PC, or if you just really feel like the untethered nature of the device is paramount, you can get in many ways just as good of a PCVR experience as most modern headsets, wirelessly with a choice of 3 apps to use depending on your network and if you want to buy an app. Or you can use a cable if your internet or equipment arent up to snuff. It's a capable PCVR headset, and until the last couple months where ive used it for a lot of AAA standalone games that are just as good or better than most PCVR ive played, I've used it for PCVR mainly.
Same! I had a rift S and upgraded and love it. I travel a lot and use a gaming laptop for pcvr. The improvements in clarity are a huge step up without breaking the bank.
This review deserves a sub! I love how in depth it goes and I agree with most of your points! This video was extremely entertaining and informative. I’m kinda early in the video so I haven’t seen how he answered the three questions but I would like to pitch in. I have played my friends quest 2 for quite a while and it’s a great headset especially for the 200 dollar price tag (without upgrades obviously). I recently bought a quest 3 and I am very happy with it but I think it’s very expensive which will be a problem for a lot of people. I paid about 500 dollars excluding tax (which was like 50 dollars because I live in Chicago) for the base headset and while I will admit its a great price of tech, you need a handful of accessories to get the most out of it. I will list the accessories I have purchased down below and then estimate the total price. -Bobovr M3 Pro (~$50) -AMVR Facial Interface 2pc (~$30) -AMVR Controller Straps (~$20) -Bobovr Battery pack + dual charger (~$40) -Lens protector (~$10) -Carrying case (~$30) Total price of accessories: $180 Total price of accessories + headset (excluding tax): $680 This is cheap for vr in general but not everyone has $500-$2000+ to spend on a headset. In conclusion, if you have money for a Quest 3 AND the accessories, go for it! It’s a great experience. If you don’t plan to get serious about vr or you feel you might end up losing interest, buy a Quest 2. It’s cheaper but it’s still great!
The microphone MEMs array is actually really really good. It's the software's filtering and equalizing pipeline that's messed up. Microphones (plural) are in different spots compared to the Quest 2, so the Quest 2's filter won't work. Seen some people fix it for PCVR thru equalizer software like APO, sounding almost as good as Modmic even. Anyway, Meta 'should' be able to fix the mic with a simple update. WHEN they do that is a different matter unfortunately. Could be tomorrow, could be next year XD
Ryan you earned yourself a sub. Loved the way you carried the flow of the review. Really interested in the quest since the apple pro release considering the price point. Thanks for the great video
Kiwi battery headstrap is amazing. I've tried about 3 different ones and this is the best one. £46 on the Kiwi design website, whereas on amazon, it's £60.
@@Impulsive_TV most battery straps use the old quest 2 battery specs for their batteries, which won't work properly when the Quest 3 is running hard to drive apps or when the internal battery is too depleted or full.
Absolutely stellar review. But I do want to emphasize that depending on how your face's bone structure. The comfort issues with the headset aren't going to be the same for everyone. I was bracing myself for a horrible experience with the default strap and interface. But after using it for only 3 weeks, I nailed the strap tensions down pretty early on. And now it's extremely comfortable with even with the default strap. Got myself some VR lenses and it's quite the experience now. :) Thank you for the review!
Great video, but I would have loved more reflection at the end about upgrading from a Quest 2 to 3. Quest 2 still has a few years of support ahead. Is it really worth paying another 600 bucks?
Buying a new headstrap with a built-in battery pack and buying a 6E router was a game changer. Being able to play Steam VR through WiFi with crystal clear image and no wires is really the only way to play VR. I will never go back to wires again. Half-Life Alyx runs perfectly over wifi.
I have the Quest 2 and want to upgrade from this. But not as a stand alone Headset. I'm playing 99% on PCVR and "just" have the Quest 2. Is this an upgrade? Or should I spend my money on a PCVR only headset like a pico or the bigscreen (I hope for a "lite" Version... becasue, jeez... 1000$...)
yes the Quest 3 PANCAKE lenses alone are worth the upgrade OMG WHAT A DIFFERENCE DUDE, like going from black and white to 4k OLED lol... Just get the 128Gig if your only using it for PC gaming.
Your statement about the original strap is on point. If they had just looked at the amazon third party straps and just created one of those for it that would of been heaps better and given newcomers a much better experience.
I didn't have a huge issue with the comfort of the Quest 2 headstrap, but I noticed how much more I used it once I got the BoboVR M2 pro+ and a silicon cover. Just so much quicker and easier to put on and adjust. I do also prefer the halo strap for comfort despite it moving a bit more. I ordered the M3 Pro and a silicon cover before I even ordered my Quest 3. I haven't hadn't any issues with the 3 BoboVR batteries I have either (buzzing or rapidly discharging), although I've read that plenty of people have. The comparative lack of binocular overlap with the Quest 3 compared to the Quest 2 did bother me or the first few weeks I had it, although I don't even notice it any more (the peripheral edges of the displays had a noticeable sharp drop in brightness and no depth) Not sure if they did something with firmware updates, or I've just become accustomed to it.
Yeah for the M3 pro i also havent had any issues with the battery buzzing which is good! I 100% agree the default strap is a pain to adjust for sure. I never even noticed the lack of binocular overlap maybe im just less perceptable to it? Thanks for the comment :)
Exactly. Your logic about the head strap is on point. They are forcing customers to spend more money on their elite straps. They know their standard strap is horrible that's why they have an elite strap. Same for the 128gb and 512gb. Greedy. They knew 256 is they most popular but intentionally not release it
Yes you are right, they will most definitely release it. I assume Meta didn't want to release the 128gb but then they want to attract the customer with lower budgets. And $499 is the more attractive pricing. In order to sell at $499, they had no choice but to offer 128gb which Meta knows is not ideal. Their profit on a $499 is probably very low. Hence they needed to make more money from the "richer" customers, so they just jumped directly to 512 and charge 30% more.
Good review. I just got one mq3 and I like it very much. For me the straw is good because I want it mainly for gaming and watching movies while I'm lying down. Still has room for improvement but I am happy with the purchase.
Very good review. From my own experience, I concur this is a headset that needs after-market accessories to fix its shortcomings as it is sold. The same was true of the Quest 2. Meta seems more interested in making sure people buy their product, viewing it as cheapest headset, than making that solid first impression to ensure they become long term users. My personal favorite headset to date is the PSVR2 (which requires a PS5) because it is lighter, has OLED HDR panels, and can be played longer. The VR2 Sense controllers last longer than Quest headsets, and they also re-charge really fast while the Meta Quest headsets can take hours to recharge. I also overall prefer the VR2 Sense controllers more than either Quest 2 / 3 controllers I have experience with, but the Quest 3 controllers are a great improvement over the Quest 2.
That model is only going to get them so far. Looking forward to this next year with apple google samsung and sony all getting involved with VR because Meta really does need some competition. Id love to try the PSVR2 the controllers look some awesome with the haptics im so shocked no one else has tried to emulate the adaptive triggers! Thank you for the comment cusman :)
@@RyanClifford Not all games take full advantage of the VR2 Sense controller features like stronger haptics, resistive triggers and capacitive touch including on the trigger buttons, but when they do it adds so much immersion to the game. Whenever you get around to trying PSVR2 for yourself, play Red Matter 2 on it. It is the uncontested most technically polished game I've experienced in VR making full use of the PSVR2 OLED HDR, headset haptics, controller haptics, resistive triggers, and all capacitive touch detection points. It also has fantastic 3D audio. The full package. Another game I recommend highly for the PSVR2 is Synapse which has best use of the PSVR2 eye-tracking used for gameplay in my opinion.
If the Quest 3 is your first VR headset, you'll probably wonder why VR isn't more popular than it is. To me, this is the first headset that properly "nails it" for the average gamer who isn't into tweaking settings and just wants a wear-and-play experience. When I started, around 2014, I could see the potential, but it just wasn't quite there.
That's kinda what I'm feeling, q3 is my first headset and also my first time ever experiencing a real headset, it's blown me away with the immersion. Literally gave my lil sis my xbsx cuz I can't see myself playing "normal" games anymore tbh.
Getting rid of cables alone is worth getting a quest 3, no matter how good your current pcvr headset is. That and great optics/displays is enough. Al that small stuff with headstraps etc. is solvable pretty easily, especially if you have a 3d printer. How can you solve the Valve Index cable problem otoh?
Strap issue was the same with quest 2! Fitting an Elite strap changed the whole experience for the better. My advice if new to vr and on a budget : grab a second hand quest 2 and elite strap, get your vr legs, have fun and then consider upgrading to quest 3 (you can sell the q2 and not lose any money then). I played through halflife : Alyx (pcvr) on the quest 2, was one of the most amazing experiences. That and competing in sim racing, using vr (ACC and iRacing) is mind blowing!
This is great advice! The quest 2 is still a great headset and comfort is king for sure especially in the beginning like you say when you getting your VR legs. Thanks for the comment!
6:11 You mentioned that in order for VR to go mainstream needs to be comfortable but it also needs to be affordable. I'm sure they would have loved to include a better headset strap but it was probably pretty hard to get the price down to $500 as it is so they should just push the better straps on you at a higher price point without alienating people by default.
So its not just me, i owned the index for around a month and had a couple issues. One being the blurring and flaring effects on the headset. Im glad to hear its not just me lol, in the end i did return it but im thinking about going for the bigscreen beyond for its sleek look.
Your video finally convinced me. And I just got my Quest 3 from Best Buy maybe 3 hours ago. Blown away completely. Now that I tried it with my glasses (I'm far sighted) the clarity is just unbelievable! Still on the fence with the stock faceplate and headstrap. But the few things I tried with it, while I was in the VR experience. I have to say I didn't even think about it anymore. But I do see for long sessions it's probalby a good idea to get something that feels really comfortable. The elite headstrap without the battery pack. Does it add a lot of bulk in the back? I bought this to use with my sim racing rig that has a bucket seat. I just hope it would stick out too much from the back of my head.
I have had the quest 3 for 2 months, and At first, I could not figure out how to adjust the default strap, but then I got the elite strap, and it is SO MUCH BETTER.
A colleague of mine bought a Quest 3 and we have both already (an older) Rift. I tried the headset and my findings look a lot like yours. I would like to do sport related apps with this stand-alone headset, but then you need a fitting strap, and the current one is not good. I find the VR not so much better than the older Rift, but the AR is completely new and a great extra. But for AR there is not so much apps at the moment. So I do agree a lot with your finding. But I would use my current common 10000 mAh battery pack, strap it to my chest with a simple strap holder and connect it to the headset. I find the one on the back of the strap or around the neck overkill.
the passthrough is lower resolution and a bit grainy, this is because i beleive they group 4 pixels or so into one for better visibility in darker environments i also had HUGE ISSUE with the default headstrap, gave me and a few others bad headaches, apparently wearing a hat on backwards with the strap over it, it helps a lot i think the speakers of the q3 are really good, if you cup your hands around your ears or on the sides of your face pointing back at your ears, you can hear the quest audio a lot better, i wonder if anyone has made 3d printable attatchable shapes like these as accessories so you can hear the audio clearer
The Quest 3 is my first VR headset, and I never had the headache issue you talk about. The head strap is not perfect, but not atrocious, in my experience. I sometimes have to adjust the tension on it, but that's it.
But a better strap is definitely a good buy. I figured people have different experiences depending on their head shape. Mine is really rectangular and I have a big forehead, so it doesn't bother me too much.
Great review! I have an old Samsung Odyssey Mixed Reality headset, and that thing is heavy and clunky. I’ve been seriously considering the Quest 3, and your review has definitely helped me make a decision.
ive been using quest 2 for years and as soon as quest 3 came out, i switched over to Q3, and i can say that i dont have any issues with the quest strap, nor has anyone else had issues with it( i have given my Quest to most of my relatives to play ). I also tend to play from 100% battery to 0%, so, 2h+. You should try adjusting the strap and bend the hinges on the sides to better fit the headsest.
I don't know how they did it, but the controller battery life increased a huge amount in the Quest 2 too. I bought some rechargeable batteries for my controllers months ago, and I still didn't replace it, because the batteries in the controller didn't fully discharged yet. In the past I was used to replacing batteries every few weeks or once every month. Everybody talks about the Q3 like "wow, the menu is so snappy", "wow, there is multitasking", "now I can move anywhere I want with the menu in passthrough without guardian". But this whole thing is true for the Q2. They improved the software a lot.
I agree with all your points. I have a 3rd party copy of the official pro headstrap I paid like $20 for. Not a fan of these batteries on your head so I have one that actually attaches to your waist or chest. Much better solution.
The passthrough on the quest 3 alone makes it worth the purchase. I have been using the mixed reality features far more than any virtual reality features, and I've been using it for hours on end with no discomfort. It's really hard to go back.
So here’s the thing, I think you’re wrong about if it’s an upgrade from the index. It might not be a straight pcvr upgrade but the added functionality and freedom it offers you is a significant upgrade. I honestly hadn’t touched my index in better part of a year but the quest 3 sort of shocked me back into VR with the added functionality of standalone, and the higher clarity. I felt less of the screen door effect and the god rays are comparatively non existent. Really looking forward to replacing the strap I went with the bobovr s3 pro which is supposedly a bit nicer and does a better job of charging/keeping the head set topped off with a 10,000 mA battery instead of the 5k, also comes with a tiny fan to cool you off when you’re playing more active games lol. Honestly didn’t want to give meta any money but I have to admit defeat and say they’ve made an exceptional product.
I've had it since almost launch and the headset has been going pretty well for me, upgraded from a vive cosmos elite which had a horrible mic and probably worse god rays than the index, but about the same screen resolution so the clarity upgrade was amazing from that, and going from vive controllers to an actual modern vr controllers is also great and much more playable in games and much better battery life, and the m3 headstral is the same style as the cosmos with all the support on the forehead so I'm already used to that too, and for some reason the mic is great on mine in social games whenever i ask people, not sure if it's a qc thing or if it's a specific voice tone, great video and a lot of good tips to get even more out of it.
Your headache was probably because you were strapping the quest to your face instead of letting all the weight rest on the top band, the side straps are supposed to just hold it on your face, not tightening it to your face like a gas mask
I think its deffo a good upgrade from quest 2 ive never had a chance to try the rift s but if you have that then you are already in metas ecosystem right? Like your game library would transfer?
Just passing through for the review, but I noticed you said this was your first hardware review, coulda fooled me this was top notch
Thank you so much for that! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
That's a funny unintentional joke that references the vr pass through
I was one of the testers for the quest 3, not sure if I’m allowed to talk about it now or not, but basically you hit a lot of the points that were brought in testing
So they ignored you inputs and basically you weren't a tester
@@everythingpony do you really think they cared about one persons input? There were hundreds of testers
@bltelysian I believe that these "issues" were not considered due to economic profitability, and it's well known that the sale of accessories generates additional profitability.

Great job man! Thank you for the review
The moment I saw your picture in the comments I knew it was you Michael xD
I have had my Quest 3 for about a week now and about that headstrap-
It took a good amount of time to figure it out, but I was able to get the default headstrap to get pretty comfy.
XD
Just get a pro strap
It sucks that these things are so much money, but Facebook just for some damn reason can't afford a design team to create a comfortable enough strap that isn't 80 damn dollars on top of 500
I have both the Quest 3 and the Playstation VR2 and I use my Quest 3 to mostly play Mixed Reality games and for full VR games I play my Playstation VR2 as I really love the immersion as the headset has haptics in it which adds to the immersion and my mother always uses my Quest 3 for painting and doing art with
Id love to try the PSVR2 those controllers look awesome with the haptics!
Which painting program does your mother use please ,I'm trying to work out which one is worth buying

Nice ad

That mic swap was genius. Good vid!
Haha thank you KingDJMAX I was quite proud of that one! Glad you enjoyed it!

Excellent video Ryan!
Debating about whether or not to upgrade to the Quest 3 from my Rift and found your video very helpful.
Keep up the good work.
Uhhhhhhhhh hes said all the reviews said the passthrough worked great. All the reviews were not great.
Great video you actually help me to make a decision about buying these things, and I wanna step in into VR so much and use it for productivity
I’m right there with you with the pass through. I saw videos and thought “holy shit that’s phenomenal” and when I actually used it I was left there like “huh, so that was a lie” but tbh after getting into better lighting it was actually much better and passable for sure.
I got it yesterday gave me headache by using it for 30 mins hurt my eye to i do have the ocolus rift for 5 years now but never had headache
I honestly thought the mic would be a lot worse and the modmic would be much better than the built in one, but the external mic barely seemed better than the built in one. It was slightly better, but really not by much.
I bought mine with a battery head strap and I don't regret it. The balance and extended gameplay has been great.
1. Don't pull an arrow beyond you head?
2. the quest can't track if you're out of range of the cameras. It's not because of the controllers.
I actually don't hate the default strap, I found it very alright, it's not the best but after jostling it around enough and adjusting it I got it to a level where I find it very easy to ignore and put it on, take it off all without any discomfort or issues
also the best option if you lay down often
I also find the default strap perfectly good. I had originally planned to get a Bobo VR strap but I keep just putting it off because I don't really feel I need it. I'll admit at first I found the default strap downright painful after about an hour of use, but once I learned to adjust it properlyI find it totally comfortable. It's also much easier and faster to put the headset on or take it off than the elite strap with battery I had on my old Quest 2.
Yea it actually is a good strap
2:40 Controller tracking: No, this "is not what happens when you use standalone VR".
Very honest review, unlike others I've seen from bigger youtubers.
Thanks dtz1000 i think honesty is important when it comes to these things!
I bought the 512GB model of the Meta Quest 3. For the amount of money paid and the insanely impressive tech this headset contains, someone sitting in the Meta boardroom said..."Lets attach a jockstrap to it for your skull". Seriously?
Would have loved to hear your views and impressions on wired pcvr with the quest 3.
-Bobovr M3 Pro (~$50)
-AMVR Facial Interface 2pc (~$30)
-AMVR Controller Straps (~$20)
-Bobovr Battery pack + dual charger (~$40)
-Lens protector (~$10)
-Carrying case (~$30)
Total price of accessories: $180
Total price of accessories + headset (excluding tax): $680
This is cheap for vr in general but not everyone has $500-$2000+ to spend on a headset.
I got the quest three for Christmas, and I have already played it more than my PS4 and I’ve had my PS4 for four years
OK, maybe not more but in the first month, I’ve played this thing three times more than my PlayStation

@@Impulsive_TV most battery straps use the old quest 2 battery specs for their batteries, which won't work properly when the Quest 3 is running hard to drive apps or when the internal battery is too depleted or full.
This review is so so good. The person has a very high potential in tech market.
I was thinking about upgrading to the Q3 from the Q2, until I got to the checkout screen and saw they wanted an extra $130 for the elite strap..
Buying a new headstrap with a built-in battery pack and buying a 6E router was a game changer. Being able to play Steam VR through WiFi with crystal clear image and no wires is really the only way to play VR. I will never go back to wires again. Half-Life Alyx runs perfectly over wifi.
I’m just wondering what happens to your body having all these batteries attached to it.
This was super helpful, informative and straight to the point. Thank you!
My favorite creator, reviewing my favorite headset?!
Ah thank you Civol! It's made my day that you say Im your favourite creator! Hope you having a good weekend!
Greedy. They knew 256 is they most popular but intentionally not release it
I never even thought about the 256gb one damn thats so true!
I think they will release it this year, same as with 128 replaced 64 quest 2.
Hence they needed to make more money from the "richer" customers, so they just jumped directly to 512 and charge 30% more.
would you recommend this is if you have the original Oculus Rift PCVR?
Awesome review thanks for the recommendations I will be using the links to purchase soon
Good review. I just got one mq3 and I like it very much. For me the straw is good because I want it mainly for gaming and watching movies while I'm lying down. Still has room for improvement but I am happy with the purchase.
Yeah I don't regret my purchase at all either! Thanks for the comment :)

This is one of the best review videos in TH-cam.
Thank you… I am gonna subscribe
Excellent review. As a VR newcomer, this really helped fill me in on the necessary details I need to make an informed decision. Well done!
I'm sure they would have loved to include a better headset strap but it was probably pretty hard to get the price down to $500 as it is so they should just push the better straps on you at a higher price point without alienating people by default.
hi sir ,
i love watching movies, 3d sbs movies. can we enjoy 3d movies on quest 3? i have xreal air 2 but i couldnt enjoy full screen on it.
I just hope it would stick out too much from the back of my head.
what about the casting/streaming capabilities?
Great review! Looking forward to checking out your next review on the big screen beyond 👍
I find the one on the back of the strap or around the neck overkill.
the passthrough is lower resolution and a bit grainy, this is because i beleive they group 4 pixels or so into one for better visibility in darker environments
i also had HUGE ISSUE with the default headstrap, gave me and a few others bad headaches, apparently wearing a hat on backwards with the strap over it, it helps a lot
i think the speakers of the q3 are really good, if you cup your hands around your ears or on the sides of your face pointing back at your ears, you can hear the quest audio a lot better, i wonder if anyone has made 3d printable attatchable shapes like these as accessories so you can hear the audio clearer
Perhaps an unnecessary question, but would you recommend upgrading from the Rift S to the Quest 3 a good choice... or rather advise differently?
What about from the OG Vive, to the quest 3
What is this Quest Free you speak of and where can I get one?
Ill give you one
ive been using quest 2 for years and as soon as quest 3 came out, i switched over to Q3, and i can say that i dont have any issues with the quest strap, nor has anyone else had issues with it( i have given my Quest to most of my relatives to play ).
Thats insane
Can i just connect my wired headphone s with a mic instead of buying the wireless headphones,Or will my headphones not work?
It's not an upgrade if I can use it only for 15-20 min becouse of headache.
Can the mic be used without needing a pc? Like when you're not recording
Did you accidentally switch the Quest 3 mic and the Mod Mic? Because the Quest sounded better to me.
Should I upgrade to the Quest 3 if I already own a Rift S and want to do wireless PCVR?
I think its deffo a good upgrade from quest 2 ive never had a chance to try the rift s but if you have that then you are already in metas ecosystem right? Like your game library would transfer?
