Campervan man, this schedule of importing 'desperate' workers from poorer countries into richer ones is a global disease. The US, Canada and Australia are prime examples of this
In Canada they introduced a visa for agricultural labourer and now there are 95,000 people from the Third World who get carted across the country for 8 months ( not in winter) wherever they are needed. After 'living-expenses' are deducted they clear about $7-8 ph.
In Australia, between 2015-18 it imported 42,000 people on temp-visas to drive trucks. They work for 70% of the mandated wage.
It's clearly a conspiracy to do this and package it up as helpful people in poorer societies. When in reality it's a ruse to have cheap labour, which helps businesses but dispossess locals.

The cost of these courses will come out of the workers pay with no help from anyone, you pay to work and these cards only last 5 years, so you pay for them your working life. To become an MP you just need to know someone, you pay nothing because when you get elected you vote to keep it that way, you can have a grandiose idea which costs the country hundreds of millions of pounds with no come back when it fails. • @Will-ul9oc

The only things they could change for drivers are, Drop the CPC its not a driving need and is nothing to do with driving, but costs the driver a full weeks training that's rarely of any use. and separate the HGV from the normal driving licence.
A lot of HGV drivers left the industry when the CPC was introduced because they couldn’t afford to undertake the weeks training required at their own expense.
The CPC was a weeks training for anything not driving, but just related like how to tie a rope or maybe. It was something from an EU directive and approved by the Brown government.
Its introduction caused many to leave jobs they had been doing for 15 years because they couldn’t afford the training and it never resulted in higher wages.
Employers just brought in drivers from Poland on minimum wages to fill in for the drivers leaving. This kept wages low and conditions poor.
This created a shortage of Class 1 drivers down the line because the lower class drivers used to upgrade to class 1.

It is a pointless need, and drivers needing to pay for it, means they first have to lose either a days pay a year, plus find the money for that training.
That doubles up on the cost. Or if they take the training is done every 5 years then the cost is prohibitive at over £500.
And for drivers working hand to mouth on low pay yes it is a lot. This is assuming you employer would even let you have the time for this training and some wont.

Cpc is just stupid full stop as it's not pass or fail and you can do the same module 5 times and thats fine for some reason.
Parking is getting worse and worse as the roads are getting more busy each year. Can't tell you how many times I've pulled up for the night and there is no space so you head to the next services or try and find a layby with no toilets, showers ect. All at a risk of an infringement.

    CPC is bollocks.
36 hours unpaid and £350 to take it.
What's that add up too? ££850 average?
    I'm not going back

CPC is not the most important thing to get rid of(but as you say its takes the goverment one bill to cancel it). Most important is pay, parking and working conditions. Rules on a minimum standard for trucks when drivers are away all week..fridge , microwave and air con for night time for drivers that require it would also be a start. So much needs to change and this is our chance.

c.p.c has been nothing but a headache for the u.k ever since it was introduced by an e.u directive, he is 100% correct when he says it stands in the way of drivers returning ,but i am sure it was introduced in 2009 for hgvs , why is it still a requirement in the u.k for drivers who stay in the u.k ?? the u.k has left the e.u.

It makes a LOT of money for the government. The training companies have to pay a government agency a fee, for each CPC module that they teach.

The CPC is a relatively easy exam to pass.
A knowledge of hours of work, weights, employment legislation and finance are vital to any professional driver self employed.
The CPC was voted and accepted by UK MEPs to improve the quality of the profession.

    • @brucewayne7838
      @brucewayne7838 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@michaelslator64 yes you are right michael, but the u.k is no longer in the e.u and it is still required at the moment , why?? it is also preventing drivers with hgv who gave it up years before from returning to help with the shortage, when you say its easy to pass, i have been told by people who have taken it that its pretty much impossible to fail it and you can do the same module five times and get your card and not even do the other four ! this sounds like it is a gimmick coarse.

What a joy to listen to a person who, (unlike the Prime Minister and his so called Senior colleagues, ) knows what he is talking about.
Articulate, plain speaking common sense AND hits the nail on the head with his thoughts and suggestions on how to put this ridiculous situation right.
This Government has yet again shown how utterly inept it is in looking after the people it was elected to serve.
    WELL DONE SIR!

I was an HGV driver for more than 25 years and just recently retired and handed back my licence, as much as I liked the job the wages were terrible and I was working for around £11 an hour which was not good. The thing is truck drivers have never ever been seen as skilled workers you were just basically a manual worker with a qualification. Skilled truck drivers should be paid the same as any other skilled person like a plumber, electrician, who often earn three times that per hour is it any bloody wonder we can’t attract new young drivers to the industry.

good luck becoming a driver though. It costs about £5,000 to take the test. If you fail you loose that money.
Jobs like Asda and Tesco do a support system to get you on there and pay 60% but they got a diversity list. And if a black person, polish person, etc is waiting, you get bumped down. Been on the list myself 3years. Whenever I chase it up, im told "oh you're on the list but theres more eligable / better suited people that get priority. Like this 22year old immigrant from Ethiopia on a french passport who can barely speak english who said "i got passport from uncle london for $200." and has never been to france. Yeah obviously illegal (in more than one ways) but shut up, racist, is the reply i get

The guys last comment "there's a lot of things this government needs to do" applies to just about every single area of policy today - but what hope is there with these self-serving, over-privileged, public schoolboys in charge - again ! What is the matter with the British public voting in people who couldn't give a damn about the working classes, it's a case of "I'm alright, Jack" - because they all have their wealth stashed away in one of the tax havens that we very kindly maintain for the rich, to avoid contributing anything to Britain !!!! Stand up, be counted - Protest !

They want to pay them as little as possible and make them work as much as they can whilst providing minimal support and services..
And as soon as they get a chance they'll replace them all with self-driving units.
Meanwhile, prices for everything the drivers deliver (and someone else's profit) goes up and up.
