Wind the line the other way onto the reel. The way you have it, the line wears into the wood. Also, tie the line around the pin to locate the starting point accurately. Cheers.
It’s Japanese “sumi”. I think traditionally it’s an ash based ink but not sure what is used in the more commercial grade stuff. You can find it at Hida Tool or really any online Japanese tool retailer. Fairly inexpensive too.
Never knew this was a thing. Super love it and can’t wait to see you put it to use. My wife would murder me if I started using one because ink would be.. everywhere.
Sort of towards the end of the video I was doing something and knocked the bottle of ink over on my workbench and of course I hadn’t closed it properly.
For laying out some of the complex furniture joinery I do this is gonna be clutch. But yea I think for the every day woodworker that isn’t working with beams this isn’t overly practical.
Very cool! I just ordered one for myself. Where did you get the nets from? Also, I think it’s awesome that you are supporting Florip. He makes awesome saws.
Yeah Erik is a great dude and someone I’m proud to call a friend. He’s going through a rough one right now. I also get the silk from hida tool. You can get the line, wadding, etc. all in the same place.

Nice video. Cool tool. Great idea using drill bit. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
Thank you sir!
That’s really cool man, I love the black ink 😜
Interestingly enough I did think of you when I was filling the ink pot. Like: “would nick use this as a furniture finish?”
@@CowDogCraftWorks and the answer is, yes.
Wind the line the other way onto the reel. The way you have it, the line wears into the wood. Also, tie the line around the pin to locate the starting point accurately.
Cheers.
Thanks. I actually semi-recently took a class from dale brotherton that covered some of this stuff.
Loved seeing this process and supper interesting. Just not getting rid of my chalk line anytime soon haha. Keep it up bud.
Thanks bud! Hope to see you soon.
Nice video man, I learned like, 15 words that I didn’t even know existed 😅
That’s what we do fam. 🤣
That is cool. I have wondered how they worked.
I’ll be spending some time in my next couple videos showing how i lay joinery out with it. Hopefully you’ll find that interesting.
That is super cool - I've literally never seen one before and it's super interesting how it all works. Great stuff bud!
It looks like a weird smoking lamp
@@CowDogCraftWorks haha absolutely
What kind of ink do you use. ??

Neat!
Thanks Terri!

Don’t know if I’d ever use this (unless i get into timber frame) but it’s cool to know it’s an option! Love that Japanese ish

@@CowDogCraftWorks i would have that Fu?!&ing ink everywhere 🤣
Too left hands 😂

@@CowDogCraftWorks thank you! I hope Erik’s recovery is fast. I love his saws. I own three of them.
You might have wound your line backwards.
I’d have to watch it again but you might be right. I did take the wheel off about a year ago and did some stuff with the handle, etc.
My ink is always soaked into my wadding.
HEYOOOOO
Mr.chickadee project?
Hopefully!
