- Solo Wild Camping And Backpacking The South Downs Way I Testing Out The 3F UL Gear Floating Cloud 2
Hi everyone, in this video I hike along the South Downs Way and test out a new wild camping tent, the 3F UL Gear Floating Cloud 2. Although I have done a lot of backpacking and camping at various points along the walk, this is the first longer hike I have completed on the South Downs Way. The weather was fantastic and it was ideal for backpacking and hiking. Take care everyone, Si x

Hi all, is anyone else considering any multi day hikes?
Take care everyone, if you enjoy the video hit the like button and subscribe if you're new. It would really help me out! Take care, Si x
Me, south downs too. Will go in two weeks as a 2 part route plan with 2 weekends overall. Havents seen this video yet, busy at work though, no doubt it is top notch.
@Ivan Baranov thanks Ivan, good luck with the walk. Let me know how you get on. Hope works not too busy
I wanted to do the West Highland Way, but my knee is having some serious issues. Struggling to walk for an hour plus.
@@MontyOutdoors would some physio help? I mention it as it's helped my ankle no end!
Currently doing the North Downs Way, 2 days in, hope to finish next Wed. Hard work, but loving it. Did the SDW last year, hard going on the feet but the views are great, especially the further east you get. That helicopter was on the look out for an armed man, reportedly seen in Chichester - living just north of the city, we got to see it for an hour or so. Keep up the great work, love the videos.
Lovely walk and pitch, I'm off tonight on the North downs with a bright green tent and a hobgoblin. Can't wait to get going.
Haha enjoy yourself mate. Have a great time 👍🏻 take care, Si
Great vid Simon, really enjoyed it 👍👍
Many thanks mate 👍🏻 appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a good weekend, Si
Great video. That tent looked pretty decent.
Thanks mate, it’s a nice one. Really impressed with it so far, have a good evening guys 👍🏻
Nice vid Simon
Good to see you out camping
Keep well my friend
Atb 👍🏽
Thanks for watching Dave, much appreciated. Hope you're well, Si
Nice to see the SDW again. I walked this trail last summer after the 1st lockdown , a 3 day section and a 4 day section. Some great views from Harting downs overlooking the village of South Harting iirc. Also the view from Chanctonbury Hill is spectacular. Overall I found some of the up and downs were savage, and walking on the hard chalk tracks and paths destroyed my feet, but it's a great trail! Enjoyed watching that, cheers for the vid Simon. All the best.
Thanks Kenton, what boots are you wearing? Sometimes that can be the issue. Thanks for watching mate, Si
Enjoyed watching all of that, Simon. I really only know of the walks in Scotland, but impressed to see Southern England has some beautiful country walks. No idea how any of you get a good sleep camping! But hope the tent serves you well, mate.
Thanks mate, we probably don't! Hope you're well, I'm enjoying the live streams. Cheers, Si
My most scary experience when wild camping was pitching the tent with my bum bag under the tent.
I didn't realise until I wanted my phone. I checked inside the tent, rucksack. I ended up taking the tent down & moving it.
I found it, what a relief. When I opened the tent next morning, I'd pitched it nearer the river bank.
Thant is worrying Diane! I can see why you would have moved the tent! Feels a lot safer with a phone. Simon
Great seeing you out on another camp Si. Can’t beat a bit of South Downs. That rip?!?! Hope you’re sending it back! Really enjoyed. Love your quick edits. Cheers matey. Ben
Thanks Ben! Was a great hike and camp. It was a freebie luckily otherwise I would have done! Have a good weekend mate. Rain today in London.. Si
nice tent there mate . cool vid again si, stay safe fella , keep vids comming .
Thanks mate, I hope you’re keeping well? Thanks so much for watching 👍🏻
@@SimonOutdoors ye done a bit north yorkshire dalws was cool .
@@jasonmaddison6148 nice one, I’ve not been there since the coast to coast. Interesting scenery 👍🏻
@@SimonOutdoors was at skiddaw few weeks ago. tuff walk for me mate but we done it .
Good healthy hike and camp. Enjoyed watching, seemed very peaceful.
Many thanks Trevor, it was very peaceful. Appreciate you taking time to watch 👍🏻 Si
Nice part of the world, I'm surprised you didn't get farmer grief all the people that do the SDW they must get a ton of wild campers in the fields. Shane about the rip in the groundsheet... I hope you made your Windsor lunch, was it with the Queen? She makes a mean BLT with the crusts cut off I hear 😁 Lee
With the lady and her friends mate. The queen was last weekend, she has some great baps (BLTs) 😂 yeah it must be mad busy, I guess they tolerate it 👍🏻
That's cool that you grew up in Brighton, I went to uni there...about a million years ago. Cool vid, nice tent!
Thanks mate, did you got to Brighton or Sussex? Thanks for watching 👍🏻
@@SimonOutdoors I went to Brighton uni, but I spent most of my time at Sussex uni library, trying to pick up pretty girls 😄
@@My24hradventure 😂 great library! It’s huge! And in the shape of a book if memory serves me well!
@@SimonOutdoors I didn't know that! Did you go to Sussex?
@My 24hr adventure yes mate! Class of 2007 :) what did you study?
Great video! I love watching other people’s hiking videos 👍🏼
Thanks for watching, i'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best, Si
What a nice video, my friend! Great backpacking! Enjoyed watching, very useful info. Cheers from Russia, Simon, and welcome to my channel about bushcraft tips and hacks! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Many thanks mate, I will check out your channel. Si
This is also my local section of the way. Not done it east for a while. Normally go from cocking to harting. great views all the same. I'm Looking forward to getting out over the next few weeks if at all possible. Take it steady Simon.
Nice one Rob. Hopefully you can get out there soon. It was a great trip. All the best mate, Si
Great video mate 👍 to he honest have never really visited the south of England haha looked Great were you was and the tent looks spot on 👍 atb karl
Thanks mate, yeah it surprised me a bit to be honest! Tent is great so far, atb mate, Si
Hi Simon good video as usual with great views in the background. Finally someone else with the floating cloud 2 haha. I have the grey colour and bought the 4 season inner. Loads of room for me at 6 feet. Get my gear in there and double porches for anything else to store my cook kit. I'm not as experienced as you or likely to be up a mountain but it didn't need to be as rugged as an MSR. Thanks for sharing and hope you got back to Windsor on time 👍
Thanks for watching Lee. I didn't know anyone else had one! Haha. Great little tent isn't it?! Plenty of space inside as you say. Made it on time, was early in fact. The lady was happy :) Hope you're keeping well mate, Si
Always good to escape for a quick overnighter on a hill somewhere , tent looks similar to a hubba design ? TFS atb Dave
Cheers Dave, yeah I think it’s based on that. Cool tent. Thanks for watching mate, Si
Great to see you make it out onto the SDW again Simon 👍
Another time you might try parking in Graffham, as it is safer for your car and gets you closer to the few overnight stealth spots that side of Amberley.
But you need to pace yourself on the initial climb, as it is pretty steep... ATB
Nice one mate, thanks for the tip. Will try this one for next time, cheers, Si
Hi Si 👋, I've planned to walk the whole SDW end of July..... can't wait! Loved the video, will be watching a few more... plus any opinions on the MSR Hubba Hubba tent??! All the best x
Hi Caroline, good luck with it. MSR Hubba NX is excellent even in strong winds (I have a video for that)! The Hubba Hubba looks very spacious indeed and great quality. If you're buying in the UK you should be fine. Take care, Si x
@@SimonOutdoors great thanks Simon. Originally, I stumbled across a French website but the import taxes etc were a little steep! On its way this week 😁
@@carolinemarshall1203 good luck with it Caroline x
Hi mate, cool vid and tent👍 The wolfskin top look neat as well, very stylish, when are you planning the Beacons Si? Cheers!!
Thanks Colin, been super lucky with the freebies. Hard to believe sometimes. I think it will be end of this month now mate, would rather spend a couple of days there and I have some leave. Have you been out lately?
@@SimonOutdoors went to a old Marconi site last week, bit different going next week to somewhere in Snowdon area 👍
@@colinjones7156 have fun Colin
@@colinjones7156 have a good time mate
Great video mate, the South Downs way is also my stomping ground, it’s where I spend most of my days out. The last time I was at cocking car park I actually went west for a hike and a camp. I’m hoping to do the whole SDW soon on a multi day hike and camp🤞🏻
Nice one George, good luck with it mate. When are you thinking of doing it? Si
@@SimonOutdoors maybe middle to late July or if not September, I’m going to try to do it in 3 days but I’ll allow 4 just incase things don’t go to plan. Have you ever done it yourself? I know you did the WHW in good time, which was pretty impressive!
@@outdoorsgeorge6896 I've not done it yet mate, go my sights on the Cape Wrath Trail next, looks like a beast! Sep seems like a good month for the longer walks
I always carry a small reel of Gorilla Tape to fix small ground sheet tears etc.
Thanks Diane, this was what was needed! I hope you’re well, Si
Nice video. What's the coffee bag at the end, please? Couldn't find it using Google.
Look out later today, will put a link in the description below the video mate 👍🏻
Hey Simon, just found you an Insta and thought I would check out your YT channel. Just subbed to support a fellow TH-camr and hiker out there from the east coast of the US. I usually carry a can of wine, since I am not a beer girl. (or maybe a few mini bottles of something) Perfect sunset on a beautiful evening. Looking forward to following along on your future adventures. ~RVA~
Many thanks for taking time to watch and the sub, I will check out your channel and have already subbed! Wine is almost as good :) Si

Hi Simon not trying to tell you how to suck eggs (northern saying) but a foot print is well worth the money,ps if the yellow fly sheet is the same yellow as my lanshan 1 you can see it from the moon 😀
Thanks for the tip mate, I took it along with me but forgot to use it and even to mention it! 😂😂 mine from Jupiter 😉
Fellow Sussex man here and feel lucky to have the South Downs on our doorstep!
What software do you use for editing mate?
Thanks mate, it's great compared to how I thought it would be. I should get there more often. Shotcut, it's a free one and really good considering. I found Adobe Pro complicated! Are you looking to start a channel?
@@SimonOutdoors Ahh I will give that a try thanks! Yeah I went for my first wild camp about a week ago but I’ve been struggling with the editing. Will be posting as soon as I’ve got my head around it 😅
