    Twice the price equals twice the sound? Judge for yourself ;) If You are serious about sound quality than JBL should be on Your list. If You look for fun mutlimedia speakers, than more functional Edifier might be better choice, that saves You quite a lot of money. If You have any quastions, feel free to ask in the comment section. Thanks for this updated test format where you seamlessly blend the speakers. This video really deserves far more views than all the useless opinion reviews where colorful terms are used to describe the speakers but you have no idea what the speakers sound like.

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Thank You George! Me too, I was sick of reading to all those "reviews" and imagining how reviewed speakers actually sound. After listening to many different speakers and comparing them with the reviews I had read, I found them 90% marketing BS, than I decided it is time to create something (hopefully) more useful, hence this channel ;) Cheers!

      @GeorgeOu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You know what would be even better? A dynamic website that lets the user choose any 2 - 4 speakers to compare and then the website would dynamically blend the audio. Wouldn't even need the video and you would only need a photo of the speakers. Then let the user flip speakers when they want, and maybe even have a blind mode where the speakers are hidden from view.

      I agree. In reviews they throw these terms that you dont know sound in reality. I found this channel last night and I like this kind of review of speakers. Of course the sound comes through TH-cam compression and every headphone sounds different, but still you can hear the difference.

    Thank you so much for posting all of your videos. I have been trying to decide between many desktop/bookshelf speakers and because of your videos I've finally been able to decide to pull the trigger on the Edifier 1700bt! Before I thought they were some glamorized and highly praised speakers just on amazon by basic users but after hearing the sound tests, WOW they are great.

    I can tell that the edifiers are missing some content, especially around the crossover region. I'm guessing between two and four kilohertz. That said, they are still very easy to listen to, not shouty, and are significantly less expensive. For non-critical listening, the edifiers are a steal

    Through my AKG K712's, the JBL wins on clarity. The Edifiers win on warmth, but at the cost of some clarity/transparency, and can be a little 'boomy' at times. btw, I have the R1700BT, using bluetooth, and find them very good on PC for gaming, films, TH-cam etc. My other PC has the Swan M200D+, costing double the price of the Edifiers but are a distinct step up for music of all genres.

    • @fred_2021
      @fred_2021 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@back_to_life0 That's a simple question, but it's hard to answer. I say that partly because the Edifiers are better after I switched from bluetooth to PC optical >> Aune dac. Whilst they still sound quite different from the Swans, I can no longer judge either as being preferable to the other. I have to say though, that I now listen to the Edifiers more than the Swans. Considering this, the Edifiers may compare favorably to the JBL, but I've never heard the latter live. Regarding what I referred to as 'warmth', I think that entails a slightly higher output in the upper bass/lower mid frequencies, with less pronounced lower highs. 'Clarity' perhaps translates to 'low level of distortion' throughout the spectrum, plus an effective JBL wave guide configuration. It would need lab gear to verify. I have only my ears, and a sparce vocabulary :)

  • @csyrgrs
    @csyrgrs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    JBL really nailed a full sound and defined mid-range with these which is easier to accomplish with larger drivers and a higher price, but for $150 or less the Edifiers are great for the everyday listener.

    My question: would a setup with the JBL LSR305's justify spending 3 times the amount that some Edifier R1800T3's would cost?
    I have the money available for both, it's more of a question of whether or not they're worth it. This is under my current market circumstances. Unless I act soon on the Edifier's, it would be more like 2 times the cost to get the JBL's.

    Listening to this on AKG K712 Pros which are fairly neutral and flat headphones on a Creative ZxR. These two speakers sound incredibly close in many of the tests. For the price difference, Edifier is a much better buy between these two. JBL may have a few subtle advantages, but the Edifier is offering FAR more sound for your money in this particular test. However, the JBLs obviously have stronger sound overall, as evidenced with the metal music. Much better distorted guitars.
    The R2000DB is a much better comparison to the JBL LSR305s in price, and outperforms the R1700BT by a good margin.

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that R1700BT is great value for money and about 90% of sound quality of JBL, yet I will insist that those 10% in JBL is worth the extra for someone looking for more natural, honest and dynamic sound.

      I have the Edifier S1000DBs and they totally outperform my friend's JBL LSR305s in just about every category. However that may be due to my less than ideal placement of the JBLs when testing. I haven't done enough A to B testing to say definitively whether one or the other holds a major advantage. Just to my ears the Edifiers had a more pleasing sound especially sweeter treble. A little less harsh but with the same extension. Also brand bias is a factor here. I like Edifier and feel that JBL is over-rated a little.
      Also, you can definitely hear the plastic sound in the JBLs. It's unmistakable.

      What Egor Bobich said. JBL and most active speakers I tested, have a bit of hiss. Should this bother You depends on Your room and the distance between You and the speakers. If You have very silent room and often listen to music on low levels than this may bother You. But more often than not, this hiss disappears in the backgroud noise of the room.

      Here is the thing, i also liked 305s sound more, but i bought 1700bt. Why? because
      1)i dont wanna have 2 speakers which BOTH need to be connected to the socket (i have reason for that... Also, too many cables... :)
      2)They are a little too big for my not so big desk.(im not a studio guy, just need good desktop speakers for entertainment).
      3)JBL have no grill i guess?And they look too "professional" maybe :)i like edifiers design more, as desktop speakers.

      +ihmazoh Edifier has big upper bass boost and less extension down low compared to JBL, it is also a bit slow due to heavy bass reflex use. JBL is much more natural and extended, also more detailed in low end without artificial upper bass boost.

      @ihmazoh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got Edifier R1800TIII speakers which have similar specs as R1700BT version. I realized that when I turn the volume max. up without any source connected i can hear quite loud hiss coming out of the speakers. I like JBL's sound however curious whether they are quieter comparing to R1700BT ?

    Hi Digital Stereophony,
    I'm between the JBL LSR305 with an audio interface (Steinberg UR22 MK2) and the Soundblasterx Katana soundbar (by Creative). Do you have any experience regarding the Katana ? I only listen to music and play somes games time to time. The Katana is 300euros and the JBL with the Steinberg is 430 euros. Can you please tell me your opinion ?
    Thank you

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +George PNF If Your main focus is music than do not hasitate and get JBL. You can also spare Yourself some money and go for cheaper interface like Lexicon Alpha or Behringer UMC22. I use UMC22 as a spare solution and it works very well with JBL. The difference in sound quality between those two and Steinberg will be rather small.

    • @georgepnf8596
      @georgepnf8596 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your quick responce. Which is better the Behringer UMC22 or the Lexicon Alpha ? I don't produce music. And another thing that I like to have physical knobs for treble, bass, volume not the pc's equalizers. Do you have any idea ?
      Kind regards

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say they are about equal soundwise but UMC22 is a bit better build and better looking. Regarding physical tone controls, unfortunately neither of interfaces will have them (including Steinberg). There are tone switches for bass and treble (+2dB, 0dB, -2dB) on back of JBL monitors though.

    How would you hook the jbl’s up to a turntable.

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try cables like this: amzn.to/2ztjZ1v just remember that JBL has two independent volume regulators on back of each speaker so it would be a plus if Your turntable had variable output and a remote. This way You set the volume on JBL once and control it from turntable from there.

    I think the Edifer's sound way richer. Speakers that utilize horn tweeters sound way to bright for me and will cause listener fatigue. They are typically way more efficient though, and should go way louder.

    HI dear , i loved your videos. and thanks for using this audio capturing device.
    i need some advice. i need to place a studio under budget what best for refrencing audio among edifier R1600/1700/1800/1900. Since 1900 has a bigger cone i find highs and mids argueble. thanks mate and love u for this.

    • @DSAUDIOreview
      @DSAUDIOreview  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have tested R1700BT, R1800BT and R2000DB and out of these three R2000DB is the best sounding speaker but only by a very little marging over R1700BT and R1800BT (which sound the same). If the price difference between R2000DB and two other is very small than I would go with it, but If the price difference is bigger than 20% than R1700BT/R1800BT is better value for money.

      man ! amzing ~ one more point that i have in mind is R1900 tv has a bigger cone/woofer size that really is pushing me to discuss 1900TV again and again .
      bcz the store here in my location only offer 1700,1800Tiii and 1900 . I love 2000DB but no ones shipping it to Pakistan cost effectively.

    Great review first an foremost. Second, please include 1 or two rap/hip-hop songs so that viewers can check for the bass reproduction in songs they are more familiar with. Some suggestions:
    Kanye West: Can't tell me nothing
    Lecrae: Welcome to America.
    Jay-Z: Somewhereinamerica
    J Cole: Change
    Kanye West: Father stretch my hands (part 1 and especially part 2)

    Even from a recording, the relative difference in quality between these speakers can be heard. It is clear that LSR305 has much more defined bass. The mid range on LSR305 is better but not significant, as the female vocal of Moonshire sounds quite natural on the R1700BT. Treble is both brighter and clearer from the LSR305 as we can hear more "air" details from it.
