hello Morgan thanks for the video, I am writing my first actuarial exam in october, i am double majoring in physics and chemistry, i have a bad academic record and i am afraid that even though I have good analytical skills and computer skills it might affect how employable I am, can you please tell me what you think I should do and how will my bad academic record affect me , thank you

While it might be a little bit difficult to get your first job out of college with the bad academic record, once you do, your academic record won't matter in the future because you'll have some relevant work experience. Also, if you've passed an exam, I think that employers will be a lot less likely to care as much about your college academic record since you've shown, by passing an exam, that you're capable of learning the material. Good analytical skills is also a really good thing to have, and I would recommend that you somehow show proof of your great analytical skills with a project or something like that on your resume and/or when you're interviewing.

@@MorganAdair First of all, this is a great video. And it has put in some confidence into myself of becoming an actuary with my physics master. Its not the best grade, mostly due to corona.
Could you elaborate on how to proof my analytical skills during the interview?

Is Economics a more suitable major than Finance if you want to become more employable in the actuarial science field? What will look better on your resume?

I'm honestly sure that either one would be fine. I can't speak too much as to a finance major since that's not what I did, but I don't think you could go wrong either way. With economics you might get a little bit more experience with problem solving, coding, and advanced math if it's a more analytical degree than a policy-related one. I did a bachelor of science in economics for example, rather than a bachelor of arts.

Do you think you can become an actuary with an accounting degree ?

Totally! I would just suggest starting to study for and take the actuarial exams.
