Having dislike for two foods mixed/close together is a common symptom for someone with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), and SPD is often comorbid with the spectrum. I speak from experience, as I have SPD myself (it's really bad, and Donnie is relatable to me in this way) and I think I may also have undiagnosed ADHD. A running gag in ROTTMNT is Raph speaking on the phone to his brothers in a seemingly patronizing way. He doesn't mean it, but I can see where it can unintentionally affect Mikey's psyche. Also, can we appreciate the fact that Mikey's not horrendously bullied in this adaptation compared to his 2012 version. I love that so much for so many reasons.

I kinda think the Raph accidentally baby talking his brothers is probably something that stems from his anxiety (boi definitely has an anxiety disorder of some kind) and a link with possible nuerodivergencies he may have (I saw someone headcanon him as also autistic, and it made so much sense. I wish I could remember where I saw the post); I think he definitely has a similar tonal issue, and may not be realizing his voice is pitching when he’s nervous. And I think it’s pretty telling that Mikey pretty much just roles his eyes when he hears Raph, like they’ve done this rodeo before and Mikey knows Raph’s on the brink of an anxiety or panic attack. Oo! And I headcanon Mikey got into psychology and shit because his whole family is one nuerodivergent disaster
The thing I love the most is that creators respected Mikey unlike 2012. I really like that show but the treatment of Mikey was just horrible. Even people with brothers (those with healthy relationship) pointed at how everyone were treating him so badly. There is brotherly teasing, insults anf roughhousing and then the treatment mikey experienced. In rottmnt Mimey while can be impulsive is demonstrably intelligent , creative and most importantly treated like actually part of the family and not a burden.
I think the evolution of Dr Delicate Touch is interesting. If I remember correctly it started off as a simple set up (here comes the sweetest most emotionally sensitive character to help deliver difficult news), punch line (he just yells whatever the news is in the most harsh yet direct way). The gentle reassurance to his team when he offers to be Dr Delicate touch betrays that he does know how to actually be delicate and caring. This gives great contrast to make his whole “Dr Delicate Touch” thing even funnier but also begs the question: does he actually know what he’s doing? A part of me thought maybe he’s just not as emotionally aware as he thinks but then he actually acknowledged his brutal ways as Dr Feelings while giving an actual seminar that’s fully prepared, aware of it’s audience and filled with sound logic and advice. Later he even calls himself Dr Delicate Touch not while giving difficult news but while LANDING A BLOW TO THE SHREDDER. I think for Mikey, the whole shtick started off as almost an inside joke for himself as he asserted himself as the “feelings guy”. Using his knowledge to convince his brothers to give him control of situations they were uncomfortable with before using methods he knew would be effective but unnerving to said brothers. But as his brothers slowly start to pick up on it he starts to acknowledge this misnomer openly and let it morph from “deceptive ploy to get control of a situation” to “title of my agressive side because of an inside joke with my brothers”. I could be wrong but I think he might actually know what he’s doing 😳
I do agree that Mikey knows what he’s doing when it comes to his alter egos. I think he uses them to let out a more authoritative and aggressive side to show his brothers he’s not just a child, but what you pointed out about an inside joke could very well be true too.
This felt very fitting for this version of Mikey. His family may baby him but at least they don’t bully him like in 2012. Also, I think that because of that syndrome he sometimes acts like he’s little. Other times, he acts more mature probably to be taken seriously like when he plays Dr. Positive, but still acts childish even though he’s 13. Could you do Raphael from Rise next please? Even though he’s more light-hearted in this one he still gets stressed sometimes because he’s the oldest and to him it’s a burden.
Honestly, youngest child syndrome really makes sense (coming from the youngest child lmao). Although they do tend to baby him (esp when he wanted the video game) to be honest, it was NOWHERE as severe as the TMNT 2012 series. I love the 2012 adaptation but the charitization of Mikey drove me up the walls. There's the boy Mikey! And I totally agree with the fact that he uses the "Doctor Delicate Touch" and the "Doctor Feelings" alter egos to show the others he can be an adult too, I love how People are representing Mikey as an artist and Cooker in the last shows, really builds him as a character
Mikey gets bullied in 2003 and 2012, and I *HATE* it. Hate hate hate it. I relate to his curiousity, open-mindedness, and fun ideas... And he just gets bullied for it. Unless Mikey is on the verge of death, they act like they hate him half the time... It's just hard to watch, honestly. All he did was have an idea or say something cute and corny ("T-M-N-T, what you get is what you see!" And Raphael immediately just shoots him down)
i also find it interesting that he often assumes the role of mediator and therapist for his siblings. despite being the youngest he shows a lot of emotional maturity and takes it on himself to be the level headed one when his brothers are dealing with stuff (see: every time he puts on his dr. feelings persona). i ALSO think it's interesting that out of everyone, he's the only one who advocates for draxum being kept around. in one of the episodes of the inner city arc he spends the whole time trying to mediate with splinter and draxum.
The thing many people seem to forget about youngest child syndrome is that Often people with it Have problems with asking for help from older people but not younger/the same age becuse It might be something of a "defeat" to them Like older people threath you like a baby, you mess up just like a baby woud So you'll try to cover that up from them But if an younger person us around you coud ask them for help becuse there on "your team" Alot of people seem to forget that part
T H I S Honestly Mikey seems a lot less caring abt Splinter's neglect compared to how the others are about it, making me feel Raph kind of filled the role as the fatherly(?) caretaker for him when he was growing up which helped him a lot- which would also explain why Raph babies him so extremely still. Maybe Mikey has kind of just accepted the neglect as a norm or gave up on Splinter at some point so that he can focus on things he loves instead like art, mayhaps even using art as a way to cope until it stopped bothering him. He doesn't seem to edge around the truth possibly due to both wanting to seem more mature to his brothers and perhaps because he knows his brothers don't really have anyone else to ground them like when Raph is freaking out, Donnie shutting down and forgetting they're in a dangerous situation, etc. He moves forward and handles things when his brothers are unsure how to. Hes both the precious baby brother but he's also almost the one handling the heavier stuff like telling harsh truths, trying to take on the role as therapist for the family sometimes too. Hes very blunt with issues too. This doesn't make him any less immature nor make him more mature, its just a fine inbetween in a way.
You know, that taking risks element and not knowing failure or understanding consequences.... this does explain how Mikey kind of rushes into trying to redeem Draxum without really considering how everyone else would react.
There’s been talk of Mikey having ADHD, which may add to his impulsivity. But yeah, I still believe that youngest child syndrome comes into play in Mikey’s character. It just fits too well
@@bestie_tooshnado3259 Shame that the second season was cut short because it would have been interesting to see how he’d deal with failure… until someone told him that being unable to change this guy’s mind doesn’t make him any less of a good person.

Is it just me, or is Mikey's "Delicate touch" a lot like Raphael's attitude when he's not being considerate of others or over-thinking. It actually reminds me of most of the others in canon. Leo's ignorance, Raph's straight forwardness, master splinters... everything. And Donnie's... smarts? Like, it's smart. But no one else would do it. It feels like he's doing what everyone else would do, if it was a normal situation. Like, before they get the chance to make a plan, Mikey just acts like it's a normal situation and does what his brothers would do. 😅
As the youngest child in my family I really like how they handled mikey character and I think his whole youngest child syndrome is very real and resonates with me a lot. Sure, it may be annoying to see him so risky things without thinking about the consequences and seeing him being babyfied (both things many youngest children suffer sadly) but I still love how no one in the show beats him or treats him like an idiot like in the 2012 serie. i hope that if we get a season 3 we will have more moments and episodes about mikey growing up or being frustrated about being treated like a baby (especially after getting his mystic powers!!) because he has so much potential
I'm the youngest sibling AND have ADHD AND an artist so I connect to him. Would be funky to see some more ADHD symptoms with him like rejection sensitivity and getting hyperfixated on art

being the youngest of the 4 brothers, Mikey has a lot to live up to and to prove not just to himself but to his family that he can stand and deliver on the skills, it takes to be a mystic ninja master.
4:54 I believe this could be a way to cope with social anxiety as you notice he only does this when he needs to confront someone or announce something he believes is important. Often when scared people will pick up alter egos to help them truck along through whatever task they need.
It’s tough because it could go both ways, as Mikey stated himself, when he goes into that mode “Doctor delicate touch” he feels nothing. This could be a coping mechanism as it does allow him to be more unfiltered and assertive when otherwise he is very tame. Coping mechanism are conscious strategies that are implemented in order to avoid stressors or unpleasant feelings. Mikey in that clip was dealing with unpleasant emotions so he went into doctor delicate touch mode, which could mean it is his way of coping. However other times, Doctor delicate touch does come in moments where the brothers hit a roadblock and he wants to step up. I can see either or both being the case as Mikey is easily the most emotional. So when his brothers are in bad or unpleasant moods, I can see him trying to cope with that by going into that mode to set things straight. He above all else wants the family to stay together no matter what. So for this I’m on the side of coping mechanism.
OMG YESS MIKEY!! Really interesting both me and him feel underestimated in our abilities and me and Mikey are both creative! Fun fact: we both have the same personality type✨ ENFP!!
I love this guy. There is something else that I noticed while watching the series ... 3rd time in a row. Mikey tends to fight to "stick" the team together. How he tried to reconcile his fathers, how he explained to Donny how to talk to Sheldon, how many times he had to be pulled out of the dangerous situations in which he was staying "for someone". He knew lying about the goldfish kept them away from the Splineter, and what he wanted most was to tell the truth. While they were in detention, Mike followed the brothers to keep an eye on them. He hadn't planned to run away from home. It is all most evident in the movie, when he first enjoys immensely that he will be a mystical warrior, because it gives him new tools to keep the team together and after Leo's sacrifice, he fought the longest and did not accept the separation of the family, which resulted in awakening a new mystical power. Btw: Mikey is a sweet cinnamon roll- change my mind Btw2: He is the strongest brother. It even surpasses Raph. Conscious or not, with his power, he THROWED the tanker at Shredder. Raph passed out while trying to move the bus. So...
Hey hey!! As the youngest child who is seen as very nice and sweet to everyone around me, this totally resonates!!! People underestimate me all the time and it makes me sooo mad cause I’m kind and kinda childish they think I’m dumb but I’m not! Seeing this gave me such a sigh of relief lol! All the things that happen to Mikey have happened to me too!! People are wild sometimes lol
I might be projecting here because we are way too similar. Mikey really seems like the type to want to help but not know how other than being extremely positive. What I mean by that is that when his brothers are feeling bad, he wants to help them, but he doesn't know how other than to make them laugh, which can happen because they are otherwise bad at handling emotions. So, moving on to the alter egos, I have some alter egos and I use them to express stuff normally. I mean, I can't express them normally. I just don't get the right words. So I just came up with another person to express stuff for me. So, Dr. Delicate Touch, might just be a way for him to express his anger in a way that helps him not break down. Dr feelings is clearly another way to problem solve, as he can detach himself from his own problems and help others (i do that too). (sorry if its phrased badly english isnt my first language)

OMG YESS MIKEY!! Really interesting both me and him feel underestimated in our abilities and me and Mikey are both creative! Fun fact: we both have the same personality type✨ ENFP!!
ENFP SLAY I'm INFP
OMG YESSS INFP ARE AWESOME!!!
Btw: Mikey is a sweet cinnamon roll- change my mind
Btw2: He is the strongest brother. It even surpasses Raph. Conscious or not, with his power, he THROWED the tanker at Shredder. Raph passed out while trying to move the bus. So...
I love your videos they are so interesting and entertaining
I 💖 mikey

AW GLAD YOU LIKE EM! Gonna upload 2012 + Rise Raph vids, then I'll see if i can get to other requests :)
I'd love to see you do an analysis on Raph from ROTTMNT. 🙂

Oh, idk if you saw my reply to another comment on this video, but in regards to Rise Donnie, according to this video, he's pretty much confirmed to be autistic (I only say it like that cause I haven't seen much of Rise, myself, yet, and I haven't seen the tweets from the creators, personally, outside of the video), here's the link th-cam.com/video/bjw9jqVvFBU/w-d-xo.html (please let me know if you want me to just post the name of the video, instead, I know not all creators are cool with randos posting links in the comments 🙂)
