He had been sick for a long time, so even if he had lived to see our wedding, there would not have been a father/daughter dance. I am planning a mother/daughter dance instead. I am sorry you have had to grow up without your father there, and watch him be happy with his second family. That must be painful. I wish I had had a relationship with my father like they show in this movie. Dad was always around but he was disinterested in his family (just like his dad was) and as such I grew up to dislike him. I couldn't turn to him for anything or count on him. As he got older his drinking got the best of him and he became an even angrier person. He died when he was 61 and I've yet to shed any tears.
