clicking this video thinking "hm i don't have any book crushes, makes sense since I don't really read a lot of romance" and then immediately seeing Pennywise absolutely killed me. I guess I should just be more imaginative, anyone can be a book boyfriend if you're not a coward
@@emmiereads LOL, we needs to get you some more dude followers though so we can have a fair representation of crushes. 🙂Anyway, off to buy a ruffled shirt.
Mr. D'arcy being no. 1 in top book crushes list just restored all my faith at women's choice in man. Like I get it we are attracted to toxic or weird man in books but I love that at the end of the day it's Mr. Darcy and a life of peace and joy at pemberly. I think why he is no. 1 is not precisely because of his character being witty but because his persona is entirely out of female gaze. It's the fact that he is rich tall and handsome who is broody at the beginning with people being a little afraid to talk with him but then he falls in love with a girl in 18th century purely because of her wit even when everyone is telling him that she is plain and poor (not of his social ranking). He confesses it to her and understands why he got rejected rather than taking it as a hurt to his ego (which is so rare like he did not even think in his wildest dream that a poor girl will reject him and that will make him want her more) he revaluates his entire perception and the actions that got born out of it and silently redempts himself without anything in return just for HER. I mean he says things like 'I will not return the sentiments that were so disgusting to you', 'One word from you will silence me forever', 'I love you most ardently' and the QUOTE of all quotes 'You have bewitched me body and soul and I love, I love , I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on' (I know it's just in the movie and idc). The hand flex scene, Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen are the added charm to this already soul devastating character. I can write a whole essay on why he is the ideal man.
I opened the video and instantly thought of Mr. Darcy as my long standing crush. I guess my reasons also added that he accepted her AND her family. Her whole package and was willing to do things just to make her happy. I definitely think him being super rich had a lot to do with it too because you know he had lots of options. Plus he seems super loyal.
They way I called it to be Captain Hook. Gurl. I screeched. I literally had a crush on Captain Hook from the 2003 movie. Has it all. Dark hair, ruffles, money, crime. sad boy vibes. scars. Pirate. Swords. unhinged bad boy with a sould. Needs therapy. snazy clothes. What else does a girl want
Aragorn being that low on the list is just the worst crime ever committed in booktube history. That man is flawless. He will cut an orc's head off and write you poetry in a matter of seconds. Also, Viggo Mortensen, hello???? How can you possibly resist THAT?? (sorry, I don't know if you can notice, but I love Aragorn ❤😂)
Emma I am 75 years old and you had me laughing out loud several times! This was so fun. I’ve enjoyed watching you for along time. My wish is that you would read Robin Hobb. Keep up the good work. You are very creative. Patricia
The fact that Jane Austin does not describe her characters is what makes them likable because readers can create the physical appearance that they want for each character.
Mr. Darcy is wonderful because everything he did to change himself wasn’t to win over Elizabeth, it was purely cuz he realized she was right and wanted to change. He was like I’m cool if you never wanna speak to me again, I’m still gonna fix what I did. That’s what makes him god tier!
Will and Jem are actually from The Infernal Devices which in my opinion is much better than The Mortal Instruments. You should definitely do a reading vlog for this series, it's great!
Seconded!!!!! The series are so different and where I couldn't tolerate TMI I adored The Infernal Devices. Set in Victorian England, some of the most intense yearning you'll ever experience - adoreeeee
I LOVE THE INFERNAL DEVICES!!! That said I feel like I need to defend tmi!!! Yes, CC did some questionable things with the first 3 books but the series its actually so good, so funny, the characters are all so well-developed and interesting and change and evolve. Honestly I could write an essay defending this series but I'm not going to do that here cause that would be weird and nobody asked for it anyway 🙃
Yes! Faramir! My one true love since I was 14, my amazing, beautiful prince! The kindest, the fairest, the most honorable and honest, the purest soul in Middle-Earth! Sooooo happy he made this list. Also your annoyance on behalf of Pippin and Tumnus is legit, I'm with you. And why the heck no one voted for Eowyn?! She's my girl! PS your stats are hilarious!
Emma! You have a way of wording your thoughts that makes me laugh out loud 😂 “unfortunately, in the show he opened his mouth and acted” had me in tears hahaha Loved this video!! 💖
Mr.darcy was my first crush i still remember blushing while reading the novel , also the adaptation (2005)did justice to the novel and made many people love the character more. Felt so good to see edmond dantes and inej in the list
I actually had a crush on Hook from Once Upon a Time so I was laughing out loud at the end P.S. please read The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare the books which Will and Jem Carstairs are from. It's far better than The Mortal Instruments and it is set in the 1870s!
I really recommend reading the *Caraval* series before starting Once Upon a Broken Heart! Jacks is in the last 2 books of Caraval and everything just makes so much more sense. He really shines there.
As a very much lesbian this was actually very fascinating! Interesting to see the golden retrievers score highly, that was not expected given what the internet is like. Thank you for this very insightful data analysis! Here are my votes for women: - Yes to Inej, glad it was her that made it. Plus Nina from SoC too! - Wu Zetian from Iron Widow (loved the actual love triangle in that book too) - Juliette Cai from These Violent Delights - Biyu (Jane) Su from One Last Stop - Lila Bard from the Darker Shades series In summary, ✨women with knives✨
I just love that Dantes is taking everyone by the throat, because same. I read the Count of Monte Cristo last year and it was my favorite book of the year. That man...
I absolutely love these types of videos. Nobody grabbed my heart and did so many things with it than Edmond Dantes. The best character in all of literature imo.❤️
Mr Rochester is also my crush. But it's mostly because of the BBC adaptation from 2005. He's played by Toby Stephens. And I was so in love with that character.
Definitely do a separate reading vlog for the Cassandra Clare books! And The Infernal Devices * chef's kiss * that's where Jem and Will enter. Please do a separate reading vlog for the Shadowhunters universe!
Of the characters I know, the only big surprise was Mr. Thornton from *North and South* . He's a factory/mill owner in a Victorian Industrial Novel (arguably the best novel of that genre), who has a lot of fine qualities, loves Margaret Hale (who is immanently lovable) and is guided by her influence and thereby eventually able to see beyond his own myopic interests to act for the good of the mill workers. Lots of positive fiber in this guy, but, let's just say, his mother is a pretty serious drawback and she is a part of the package. Elizabeth Gaskell is a pretty great Victorian novelist, whether she is handling Industrial or Domestic subject matter. *Wives and Daughters* is my favorite and Molly Gibson is a very lovable character (though Roger Hamley has his charms), but I have only read *Cranford* besides the other two mentioned. She handles class issues very well, even if she shies a little more to the conservative yet compassionate side. Unfortunately, though it has been a long time since I read it, her *Life of Charlotte Bronte* has some serious problems that are partly due to the fact that she had a strong bias towards her friend in life, Charlotte, to the diminishment of Emily and Anne (and she sweeps Branwell under the rug as far as possible, which is somewhat understandable given her direct affinity for her by then deceased friend)..... Mr. Rochester atones for all of his sins by a literal expiation through fire to the point of blindness and disfigurement. If that isn't a good enough redemption arc...... and hurray for Gilbert Blythe!
With the absolute lack of women on this list, I figured I should add my votes: Viv from Legends and Lattes/Bookshops and Bonedust Luna Lovegood from HP Evelyn Hugo from the Seven Husbands of (even though she absolutely is in love with someone else) Elphaba from Wicked Iggie Threadgood from Fried Green Tomatoes Jo March from Little Women This one is more the movie but Galadriel from LOTR are you kidding?
For me it's Mr Darcy (Colin Firth version), Aragorn and Nick Nelson. Also, you went really deep in the analysis at the end, there. Thank you for the laughs! 🪙
pippin took me by surprise 😂 i see myself too much in him to have a crush on him, okay? also NO WAY aragorn got fifteen votes WHAT????? i literally only have like 2 book crushes and HE IS ONE OF THEM 😭😭😭
I mean... Razumikhin's love language is: going clothes shopping for his narcoleptic best friend (despite him acting weird, suspicious and ungrateful) and making sure to steal one of his nasty shoes in order to buy a new pair in the right size.
⚜️lol I’m dying at Edmond Dante. I honestly thought I’d be the only one to vote for him. He is 100000% my type and I’m soooo thrilled you love him too. I am honored to share that book crush with you. ❤😂. I’m sure it’s because you’re reading it for GoT that so many people even know him but I’m falling in love with him even more this second time through.
I didn’t vote but I would have voted for either Kaz or Percy. Percy has had my heart since I was a kid so, yeah nostalgia. But also he is sweet and sassy and SO LOYAL. Anayways. Kaz... is a criminal yes. But he is a good man I tell you. Helps his friends, doesn’t harm the weak, 10/10. It was refreshing to see a dude just kicking ass in a world were people can bend bones and stuff. Did it kinda crush me you didn’t relate to my crushes, yes, but hey, I didn’t crush on most of these dudes so I can’t judge.
My book crush is Athos from The Three Musketeers. He has been since my childhood. One noble brooding frenchman, doesn't laugh often but loyal to a fault. He deserves some recognition!
GILBERT BLYTHE MADE IT!!😭😭 Although I always imagine Gilbert from Anne with an E (saying it with fluttery eyes)💌.... Watch it Emma you will love it!! Also, Nick Nelson OMG He is THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER!! Glad both of my crushes made it to the list💞.... I can do anything to have Gilbert in my life!!!! Also Darcy... We all know why he is the OG Crush🤭
Emma you have to read The Infernal Devices, which is the series that Jem is from. It gets lumped in with the Mortal Instruments because they take place in the same universe, but it is leagues better than the original IMO (my evidence is: Edwardian London, best version of a love triangle). The love interests are just *peak*, and the story is incredible. Edit after watching more of the video: Will Herondale is also from this series. He’s *chef’s kiss* Please do a reading vlog!!
10:12 I’m actually super surprised that u don’t like Freddy’s acting, like the majority of book fans absolutely love Freddy as kaz, especially in season two. I will say the writing in shadow and bone is less than stellar (along with whatever the fuck they did with adding BOTH book series together), but the actors really r what sold the show for me as an avid six of crows fan and I do rly love Freddy as kaz
i totally agree with her on kaz - i have nothing against freddy but he sounds so whiney he definitely made me cringe - also someone who adores book nikolai i will never forgive what they did to him in the show like yuck 🤢same goes for sirius for the movies
@seochangbinsarms they should have never combined six of crows and shadow and bone plotline. It ended up being a mess, no wonder it got cancelled 🙃. Now, every time I read the books, I will think about the horrible mess that show was. They should have remained faithful to the books, I was robbed of a good show with only the crows.
If were going with crushes from actual novels then it's gotta be Aragorn, with some seconds being George Weasley, Finnick Odair, Remus Lupin and, hear me out, Luthien from the Silmarillion. She'd sing and dance with me in the moonlight, while also being a total badass whenever she needs to- how can you not love her? But- but! If we're more open with the definition... Jake McKenzie from the Endless Summer series on Choices. I just love that man so much, you have no idea- His character arc and him slowly opening up to the MC is _everything._ Admittedly, some of my appearance preferences with this one can absolutely be tracked back to Aragorn and Viggo Mortensen :,) (fun fact: He can literally be nicknamed 'Aragorn' in the story-) But yeah, I love that man with all my heart. I mean, I'm assuming nobody here even knows Choices (interactive graphic novel-ish game, don't question how I ended up playing it - absolutely a guilty pleasure of mine), let alone Endless Summer but I just had to mention him
I saw the movie The Count Of Monte Christo when I was young and even I fell in love with Edmond. I’ve yet to read the book for obvious reasons (It’s huge) haven’t seen the movie since but God it stayed with me and they cast Edmond perfectly!
I love Darcy so much. And also all of Austen's works and characters. And, my thoughts on why they have such a hold on us is: Austen did romance tropes before they were tropes. Pride & Prejudice: enemies/hate to love; forced proximity Persuasion: second chance Sense & Sensibility: age gap (?? iirc? it's been awhile. also, there is probably another trope here that I'm missing) Mansfield Park: friends to lovers (this novel has so much going on LOL. so i'll just use the one.) Northanger Abbey: fish out of water (catherine)/and i'd argue 'forbidden' love due to henry's family's reactions towards her at certain parts of the novel Emma: oblivious to love/last to know Granted it's been a few years since I've read these so anyone is welcome to correct/argue/add LOL but basically I just see how certain male characters in these books are always a fave because of the types of common tropes and traits used in present-day works.
edmond dantes 💖 he's literally my favorite book boyfriend ever, a man who is dedicated, understands the value of not being abused by those who have wronged him, rich and intelligent, excellent planner, follows through with plans and isn't wishy-washy. honestly the ideal
This was SO entertaining! I think Jamie from Outlander should be much higher but I’m very pleased about Gilbert Blythe. You made me laugh so many times. You’re gonna be a wonderful professor one day!
Wow I was not expecting this video 🤣 Some of these choices are very…. questionable, although I have to say, this data analysis is far more interesting than my uni work at the moment 😅
My childhood crush was definitely Percy Jackson, no notes. And I’m not really a book crush person anymore but the last character that I really felt the closest to crushing on was Dalinar from the Stormlight Archive
This was so much fun! I didn't vote in the poll but so happy to see my boy Gilbert be so appreciated. Also, pretty sure Mr Thornton made it onto this list because of Richard Armitage in the mini series. He's Mr Darcy 2.0 ❤
I went dressed as Sirius Black to our Christmas party - so yes, I understand that. It's his silent grace and stubbornness that fascinates me. ... Also, my all time book crush is Carlisle Cullen! I even went that far that he's one of the reasons I'm studying medicine now! ;DD 🪙
The way I went into this like I don't think I have any book crushes and then you got to Percy Jackson and I was like... okay maybe I do I think it definitely helps if you've read these books as a kid. I think they can be enjoyed later in life but it also makes sense to me why someone wouldn't be into them without that childhood connection
Currently rereading little woman for the third time probably and early Laurie is crushable but not at the end of the novel, I get y’all but there’s better (ALSO EMMA READ THE BOOK NOW 🔪)
clicking this video thinking "hm i don't have any book crushes, makes sense since I don't really read a lot of romance" and then immediately seeing Pennywise absolutely killed me. I guess I should just be more imaginative, anyone can be a book boyfriend if you're not a coward
'George Washington? No, it's mr. Darcy' KILLED me
He's a murderer but he's a gentleman 😂
I hadn’t gotten to this part in the video when I read this and the fact that it applies to multiple people on this list 😂😂😂
My man my man my mannnnnn
the thing with Sirius and Remus is that the fandom does A LOT of the heavy lifting
hans christian anderson lmaoo
Lmao I lost it when she said that
We're all just lab rats in Emma's literary experiments, aren't we? lol
And I appreciate it very much!😂

The Jane Austen heroine i wanted to kick so many times.

I genuinely expected Aragorn to be in the 80+ tier 🤣
right????? Im disappointed and upset
They way I called it to be Captain Hook. Gurl. I screeched. I literally had a crush on Captain Hook from the 2003 movie. Has it all. Dark hair, ruffles, money, crime. sad boy vibes. scars. Pirate. Swords. unhinged bad boy with a sould. Needs therapy. snazy clothes. What else does a girl want

I'm with you and completely agree. I adore Aragorn.
Agreed
YEAH. I am so disappointed in humanity right now. He deserves so much more
I lost it at "period piece papas." 😂 OUAT Captain Hook...yes. My top book crushes are probably Darcy and Aragorn.
Emma I am 75 years old and you had me laughing out loud several times! This was so fun. I’ve enjoyed watching you for along time. My wish is that you would read Robin Hobb. Keep up the good work. You are very creative. Patricia
😊 Reas Farseer and now starting Liveship. Who’s your crush in RotE?
yesss emma but read the farseer trilogy first!!
I love fool, fitz, and nighteyes
@@strawberryorange3755 I thought it might be 😊
Speaking of Hobb, is Fitz probably my one true book love? Most likely.
Accurate Darcy is my sleep paralysis demon.
Team Aragorn!! We all know the King!
That’s what makes him god tier!
one does need to notice tho , that its something which if not outright said can absolutely come off as looking like changing for someone else
Came here for Gilbert Blythe, was not disappointed 😄
Someone voting for Moby Dick, the actual whale, is wild. Thanks for the good laugh, I needed that. 😂
I think all of them have a very special personality trait , which is (extreme) devotion that makes these characters feel very attractive.
EXACTLY.
Will and Jem are actually from The Infernal Devices which in my opinion is much better than The Mortal Instruments. You should definitely do a reading vlog for this series, it's great!

Amazing😂
Not me dancing in front of my mirror when Mr. Darcy shows up as if I didn’t expected it
The way I screamed when I saw Phantom- thought I was the only one 😂
Also whoever put young Moses and Aslan had a point and it was a valid point

Atticus Finch and Sirius Black… can’t explain it but they are my top 2

I was literally CACKLING at Emma's commentary. This video made my day.
With the absolute lack of women on this list, I figured I should add my votes:
Viv from Legends and Lattes/Bookshops and Bonedust
Luna Lovegood from HP
Evelyn Hugo from the Seven Husbands of (even though she absolutely is in love with someone else)
Elphaba from Wicked
Iggie Threadgood from Fried Green Tomatoes
Jo March from Little Women
This one is more the movie but Galadriel from LOTR are you kidding?
“Even though she absolutely is in love with someone else” omg 😂 but honestly I loved her
Jacks is my n°1 book crush, I also somewhat picture him as a younger Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3
For me it's Mr Darcy (Colin Firth version), Aragorn and Nick Nelson. Also, you went really deep in the analysis at the end, there. Thank you for the laughs! 🪙
agreed on you opinion of mr. Rochester, i thought he was a red flag too and then saw how many women like him...
pippin took me by surprise 😂
i see myself too much in him to have a crush on him, okay?
also NO WAY aragorn got fifteen votes WHAT????? i literally only have like 2 book crushes and HE IS ONE OF THEM 😭😭😭

Aragorn, Jacks, and the Phantom are my top-tiers i got emotional when i saw their places whaaaaaaat
Faramir and Eowyn have been my book crushes for literally most of my life which, in hindsight, could've clues me in to some things 😂

I love your sense of humor, Emma. Thanks for making me smile today!
We need the Christian Bale version of Laurie from the 1994 Little Women 😍
This has become my favourite video Emma has put out 🤣 also yes, Edmond Dantes ❤️
Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind only. And the funny thing is I thought of it only this week and here is your video where you ask about it! :D

I hate that show, ruined the crows for me
@@strawberryorange3755 I’m confused as to how the show can make u hate the original book characters 💀
I actually loved the show and the crows kept me from hating it
i totally agree with her on kaz - i have nothing against freddy but he sounds so whiney he definitely made me cringe - also someone who adores book nikolai i will never forgive what they did to him in the show like yuck 🤢same goes for sirius for the movies
We love Harry 💓💓 thank God he's here
The fact you used Hayden Christensen for Aaron Warner is something I can not unsee, and I won't complain. Makes me want to read the Shatter Me series.
My top 5 from this list are hands down, easily...
1. Sirius Black
2. Remus Lupin
3. Finnick Odair
4. Laurie
5. Howl
🤭💅🏽 Lololol
9:00 JUSTICE FOR JEM!!!!! GOD BLESS
I mean, I'm assuming nobody here even knows Choices (interactive graphic novel-ish game, don't question how I ended up playing it - absolutely a guilty pleasure of mine), let alone Endless Summer but I just had to mention him
The count of Monte Cristo was my first crush and Richard lll.
Pride & Prejudice: enemies/hate to love; forced proximity
Persuasion: second chance
Sense & Sensibility: age gap (?? iirc? it's been awhile. also, there is probably another trope here that I'm missing)
Mansfield Park: friends to lovers (this novel has so much going on LOL. so i'll just use the one.)
Northanger Abbey: fish out of water (catherine)/and i'd argue 'forbidden' love due to henry's family's reactions towards her at certain parts of the novel
Emma: oblivious to love/last to know
Granted it's been a few years since I've read these so anyone is welcome to correct/argue/add LOL but basically I just see how certain male characters in these books are always a fave because of the types of common tropes and traits used in present-day works.
inej was my og book crush, i still have "she was inej ghafa and her future was waiting above" in glitter letters on the wall of my childhood bedroom
Dude you are brilliant! I am impressed. Could tell you put a lot of work into analyzing the data 👏
Loved the stat breakdown at the end--so funny! Also, I was surprised at the mix of modern and classic men. Such a fun video!
edmond dantes 💖 he's literally my favorite book boyfriend ever, a man who is dedicated, understands the value of not being abused by those who have wronged him, rich and intelligent, excellent planner, follows through with plans and isn't wishy-washy. honestly the ideal
"HOWEVER!" 🤣
This was SO entertaining! I think Jamie from Outlander should be much higher but I’m very pleased about Gilbert Blythe. You made me laugh so many times. You’re gonna be a wonderful professor one day!
"What god did you bribe to get a face like this" is my new favorite compliment
gansey is a top tier choice, but the lack of blue sargent on this list was criminal!
I was in love with Atticus Finch but I also just love the book
🪙 this was brilliant 😅
When you out it like that Captain Hook.... not so bad 😂
yes i did have a severe crush on the once upon a time captain hook so you are right
Wow I was not expecting this video 🤣 Some of these choices are very…. questionable, although I have to say, this data analysis is far more interesting than my uni work at the moment 😅
I even went that far that he's one of the reasons I'm studying medicine now! ;DD 🪙
I absolutely have a crush on Captain Hook! "Hook" was my favorite movie as a kid, still a fav today, suddenly my life makes sense 😂
My crush is DEFINITELY Yami Sukehiro from Black Clover and also me picturing every tall dark and handsome book character as Henry Cavill ❤
The way I went into this like I don't think I have any book crushes and then you got to Percy Jackson and I was like... okay maybe I do
I think it definitely helps if you've read these books as a kid. I think they can be enjoyed later in life but it also makes sense to me why someone wouldn't be into them without that childhood connection
Amazing data collection and interpretation ♡
Thank you for doing this, it's especially fun to see the end results!
Currently rereading little woman for the third time probably and early Laurie is crushable but not at the end of the novel, I get y’all but there’s better (ALSO EMMA READ THE BOOK NOW 🔪)
he was definitely more crushable with Jo than with Amy 😂
@@ErikaLM10 OMG YES like wth was that end couple 😭😭
