    You literally just saved my business bruh. I was wondering why I was recording the "telephone effect" into my vocals. I didn't even need the high pass filter on 1073. Thanks

      Nah filter up to the 160 notch and then add bass back in at 0.36 I turn it up to the dot right above 220. Watch you float . I set my mid band to 0.7 and turn it down to where the 1 and a half dots. To each their own tho but this what I do . I even turn my highs up 3 dots and I have the so called bright Tlm 103 .

    What I usually do is use reso/soothe to lessen the resonance in the high end of the voice(like 8k+) that use an dynamic expander on the same frequency range so that way you bright top end without any resonance I’ll usually pair that with a MB on the low end to compress the boomness in the voice personally I wouldnt cut on the preamp I would just do it in post you get way more control Imo

      You’re doing too much in my opinion. I think multiband on vocals is a mistake but that’s my two cents. Fucks with phase and tonality that you can do with an EQ with no dynamic bands.

    • @Neekzu
      @Neekzu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigstevedzn2353 Bruh I think you did not understand some stuff. Multiband is the best you can do on any signal. Also phasing can only happen with two signals. A mic/vocal take is a mono signal.

    • @bigstevedzn2353
      @bigstevedzn2353 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Neekzu yeah I was on one that day, but I stand by my take. Multi band (especially C6) just leaves the vocal undesirable. You should never really need a multi band compressor for anything. If you absolutely need it, you can try using dynamic eq. Pro-Q 3 is a Swiss Army knife.

    Great video. Have you noticed that if you turn on the EQ, but leave everything at zero (flat), then there is a small high frequency roll off at about 20 kHz and the sound gets a little darker? I also have AMS 1073 (classic module) and when I turn on the EQ, but set everything to zero (flat), the sound gets a little darker in the "air" region. With eq disangaged sound is brighter.
    I heard that this is a 1073 design specifics, but I would like to ask if you noticed this too or with my unit something wrong? Judging by the video, the sound of your unit without EQ is also a bit brighter:
    eq on 1:52, eq off 1:56, eq on 2:02

    • @The-Skyking
      @The-Skyking ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a 1073 feature and really nice on tracks with bright transients, sharp vocals, or where you want to round things off. Works nice on drums too. To get some air back, use a MAAG.

    What's the difference between the Neve 1073 Spx W/ Eq vs. BAE 1073 w/ eq (Keep in mind that the bae version costs about double the price of the neve 1073 spx version) very curious about that

    • @roderickmims4802
      @roderickmims4802 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bae 1073 is expensive because it’s made to be a clone to the original ones. It has the same transformers as the original and it use a huge power supply to make sure it reach those old vintage neve tone.
      The ams is new style neve, more modern style.. it still sound close but not close to the point were it’s like omggggg it’s the same thing….
      There very similar in tone but you can hear a different… that why someone people get bae over ams because of they want the original sound …. Both good though

  • @drakewatkins2624

    Would these settings work good with the tlm 49

    • @bigstevedzn2353
      @bigstevedzn2353 ปีที่แล้ว

      First mistake is to copy one’s settings. If you are not 100 PERCENT SURE what vocal sound you are going for, I wouldn’t even really touch the eq. The point of the EQ is to help sculpt a vocal before it even hits the daw. Minute, small changes are what you are going for. The possibility of turning the eq bands all the way up or down is enticing but you want a recorded vocal that is not too hot (loud) or permanently altered in a negative way.

      lol not sure where they got vintage from but I guess they meant vintage by old program. its just changing the fact that your the notes won't be bending or flexing to the next note which is why a lot of people used autotune 5 and wouldn't upgrade so they made the classic button to give you that "vintage" of autotune 5 sound. Tf are you on about? Dr Dre absolutely had a vocal chain going into his $50,000 SSL Board. There's even an interview on his 50 Cent Mixes..
      "I like my vocals to sound 'crystal,'" says Dre. "I use the Sony C800-G"...."and out of that into the Neve 1073 mic pre"
      "Avalon, We set the compression ratio around 7:1, I set it at a medium attack and fast release. I'd say we're using around 3 or 4 dB of compression, sometimes up to 7 dB. On 'In Da Club' it was about 4 or 5. Then it comes back into the SSL 4000 G"
