    You can access the release cable without disassembly of the plastic cover in case you find it impossible to do. Peel back the soft part of the assembly and with a flashlight you'll find it right away. Thanks mate your video saved the day!

      Wonderful! Glad to hear it. I never thought this video would be as helpful as it is

    Thanks for the video, for those still struggling, you can get to the mechanism with a coat hanger from the back. Lift the cushion to create a gap between the plastic base cover and the material, then with a coat hanger create a small ended hook, place hook over longest pin and give it a good pull.
    Mine took more effort than I though would be required.
    Once you hear it click/pop do the same on the other side then continue as per the video to lubricate everything

    Thanks for this very helpful video. I thought I'd share my experience in case it helps anyone as my seat was seriously stuck.
    With the larger seat you need to pull both cables at the same time and fairly hard, vice grips worked well, this releases both catches at the same time, then pull the seat up. Please note - the back of the seat needs to be folded down for this to work.

    For anyone having issues when yanking that cable and it is still not unlocking. Jump into the boot, get a VERY firm grip of your pliers and pull extremely hard. Took me a few goes but it ended up unlatching and I got the seat up. Pulled off the plastic trim, sprayed some WD40 across everything and pushed the latch back and forth. It was very sticky at the start but started getting better with every lock/unlock. Put everything back together and now I have a seat I can fold up!!!

    Thank you so much @Calislay. I almost gave up that mine won’t get fixed. You video gave me the confidence to fix it myself.
    Thought I’d share my process. For my case, the double seat did not even fold. So I had to fix the folding first. The upper switch/knob was stuck. So I had to cut through the side cushion and wd40 all springs metal parts. Now it’s smooth as hell to fold. Then I move on to follow you tips.

    Thanks!
    Really helped me with my 98 Pajero LWB Widebody (Gen 2), could always hear the door side jaw release but the seat never lifted.
    After seeing this I had another look at the inner jaw - the wire was stretched, but realised I could just push down on the steel release (until that point I always assumed the whole mechanism was one solid piece...).
    BTW: my cloth interior has better direct access to the door side wire without needing to waste time with the side screw

      I have the exact same car! My seats are trapped in the normal position. My cables are broken is there anyway other way to unlock the seats to replace the cables?

      Same here, I can hear them unlock but seat will not move

    • @WheelsAndHelmets
      @WheelsAndHelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couple things to try. It's either seriously Jammed and you have to pull the cable with a lot of force, or lift up on the seat as you're pulling the cables. They could be locking before the seat has had a chance to lift

    • @556miles
      @556miles 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These seats can be jammed in two different ways. 1st is when u can unlock just by pulling cables (as shown in video). 2nd, is when pulling cables will not unlock seats. When it happens you'll need to partially remove plastic cover under the seat (pull it down) & then use long flat-head screwdriver driver to push down on the lock. It will not be easy but it's the only way that worked for me

    After 6hrs of fucking around I got my seats lifted up from the normal position. All the cables were broken. Had to get long tent pegs and a hammer and bang open the leaver bars to unlock the clamps to the floor. Such a fucking mission

      @@aziendaagricolacanevee5422 The cables are on each side of the seat under a plastic cover, they go down to the floor and under the seats as well

    Can we completely remove the second row out of the car then fix it ?

    • @WheelsAndHelmets
      @WheelsAndHelmets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the latching mechanism ? I suppose you can do this after you get the seat unstuck. I'm unsure if it would be easier to adjust outside of the car though.

    Maybe helpful if you know the correct sequence for folding the seats. If that doesn't work then check for jams. th-cam.com/video/YFx2eV8q8VY/w-d-xo.html

    Just spent 3 hours battling trying to unlock the seat lock while my seats are trapped in normal position. It just won't unlock no matter how much I pull on those wires!!! FML so annoying

    • @WheelsAndHelmets
      @WheelsAndHelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you tug on the wires on both sides of the seat? You kind of have to pull one, tilt the seat as you pull the other

    • @judassss
      @judassss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WheelsAndHelmets My seats are stuck in the normal position and cant be lifted up. Is there anyway to unlock the locks without the cables while the seat is down? Maybe pushing some wire or metal up into the unlock latch or something? My cables when pulled with the strength of the gods dont do anything at all, they are broken completely.

    Make SURE you check that its not JUST your TECHNIQUE, as the logical way to raise these seats is designed NOT TO WORK, and you will likely launch into the fix suggested in this video when there is NO FAULT, its just that you are doing it the logical way which is the WRONG way. - Thanks Mitsubishi Engineers very stupid design from a usability aspect, probably an award winning design for the industry but of course completely the opposite from an actual person trying to use its point of view.
    Anyway look here and check this FIRST, BEFORE you start the disassembly process.
