I know you cannot give specific medical advice, but I have a question. Can a horse with moderate hock arthritis be ridden gently? Trail riding at the walk and bits of trot? I ride an older belgian mare who becomes a bit symptomatic in the colder months. She loves to go out walking but becomes a bit stiff and limpy after too much trot. I believe she will be started on adequine soon by her owner.
I have a two year old QH that just had rads done in her hock. We’re at the point that we’re bone on bone. She gave me a few options. I-rap-prp-or surgical. We’re planning on turning her out for a year anyhow. Do you recommend doing any of these treatments before turning her out? Thoughts on the options she gave? Thanks for doing what you do!
This is really helpful. I teach veterinary technology, and I'm going to incorporate this video into this semester's physiology lesson on the musculoskeletal system. Thank you.
Icing can certainly help! I highly recommend icing soft tissue injuries such as bowed tendons or suspensory desmitis but it can be used on joint inflammation as well.
In The Vet Truck my horse is going in for a possible medical fussing next week of his hock if you need a video idea I would love to know more about it I am pretty nervous about it!! I really love and appreciate your advice
Good video but it’s sad you didn’t mention any therapies other than corporate created drugs. Cold laser therapy? Message? Lifestyle and diet choices that don’t encourage inflammation in the body? Considerate training practices? Tell me you don’t feel amazing after a deep tissue massage?
loved this video!! im going to look into some of these for prevention care. Whats you take on oral supplements like cosequin? are they as effective as IM or IV injections?
great information! Thank you
What do you think of PSGAG & HA given as suppositories

Is a clicking sound in the back legs a sign of arthritis in the hawk?

Yes absolutely, with proper treatment a case of MILD hock arthritis can be made comfortable enough for light or even moderate riding.
What is you opinion on turmeric and devils claw supplements?
Like you said giving good supplements to horses is true, like us taking good vitamins.
How would you treat a horses hocks if they're not getting the terms on 5/8 and 1/2 mi harness race tracks
Have you seen back pain in horses with arthritic hocks

Do you recommend Equioxx or Adequan? Could we do both?
I’ve used both on many occasions with good results
What are yours thoughts on Pentosan?
It works pretty well in some horses it’s generally not my go-to choice for arthritis

How frequently can the Adequan regimen be repeated?
It’s labeled for as often as 6 months but most horses only need a yearly treatment

Quality oral supplements like cosequin can help horses out quite a bit but probably aren’t as effective injectable meds
