Like other songs from Sturmpercht (Der schlafende Kaiser, Zur zwölften Stunde) it's about an old story where the emperor Charlemagne still lives, but under a mountain. He is asleep and once every hundred years he send a dwarf to the surface to check if the ravens are still flying around the mountain. If that's the case, it means he has to sleep for another century.
I'll give it a try; Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man In an underground castle He sleeps in a deep spell He never died He sleeps in there yet In the hidden castle He has sat down to sleep He took off the realm's/empire's splendour (Splendour = Herrlichkeit, and would be the literal translation, but in a medieval context Herrlichkeit is a more complex concept related to governance, so this essentially means he is not governing anymore) And he will get it back in his time The chair/throne is made of ivory On which the Emperor is sat The table is made of marble On which he rests his body His beard is not of flax It is of a fire's ember It has grown around the table On which he rests his chin Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man In an underground castle He sleeps in a deep spell He never died He sleeps in there yet In the hidden castle He has sat down to sleep He nods as if in a dream His half-open eye winks And after each long space (Space in the sense of time that has passed) He waves to a boy Go before the castle, oh dwarf And see whether the old ravens Are still flying there So that I'll have to sleep again Enchanted for a hundred years Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man In an underground castle He sleeps in a deep spell He never died He sleeps in there yet In the hidden castle He has sat down to sleep Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man Emperor Charlemagne The wise old man In an underground castle He sleeps in a deep spell He never died He sleeps in there yet In the hidden castle He has sat down to sleep

I'll give it a try;
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
In an underground castle
He sleeps in a deep spell
He never died
He sleeps in there yet
In the hidden castle
He has sat down to sleep
He took off the realm's/empire's splendour (Splendour = Herrlichkeit, and would be the literal translation, but in a medieval context Herrlichkeit is a more complex concept related to governance, so this essentially means he is not governing anymore)
And he will get it back in his time
The chair/throne is made of ivory
On which the Emperor is sat
The table is made of marble
On which he rests his body
His beard is not of flax
It is of a fire's ember
It has grown around the table
On which he rests his chin
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
In an underground castle
He sleeps in a deep spell
He never died
He sleeps in there yet
In the hidden castle
He has sat down to sleep
He nods as if in a dream
His half-open eye winks
And after each long space (Space in the sense of time that has passed)
He waves to a boy
Go before the castle, oh dwarf
And see whether the old ravens
Are still flying there
So that I'll have to sleep again
Enchanted for a hundred years
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
In an underground castle
He sleeps in a deep spell
He never died
He sleeps in there yet
In the hidden castle
He has sat down to sleep
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
Emperor Charlemagne
The wise old man
In an underground castle
He sleeps in a deep spell
He never died
He sleeps in there yet
In the hidden castle
He has sat down to sleep
