From when I first watched Jennifer's Body I thought that both Needy and Jennifer were closeted and in love with each other. After Jennifer went through the trauma of getting turned, she immediately ran to Needy's house for comfort. And other than the first two boys (the one she ran into on the street and the jock), Jennifer was specifically targetting boys that took some of Needy's attention. Even before she became a demon, Jennifer would degrade Needy's self esteem to keep her close and dependent and (I think) to hide how much it's Jennifer that needs Needy. And for Needy, the kiss scene, with Needy following Jennifer down onto the bed, felt like a "finally" moment for their lifelong friendship, before the reality of Jennifer killing people came rushing back in.
They were actually supposed to kiss in the bed stabbing scene (i think) but Megan Fox was so into character that she actually bit her on accident lmaoo

The make out is definitely no. 1 cinematic kiss ever, BUT that final scene was the one that sealed the deal. This undefined connection. They didn't need to be dating, man.

Her character in the movie is actually quite interesting if you listen to what she says but she‘s always shot in a way to make her look like a model, as in the thing Michael Bay wants the audience to think about. Jennifer's Body was HUGE on tumblr back when it came out and the few years after. I joined way back in 2009 (almost 10 years on tumblr JFC) and there were gifs EVERYWHERE. This was peak emo/scene/hardcore trend too so those gifs were a good way to make your tumblr more ~edgy
Ok, I might be the only gay guy here, but Megan Fox is for everyone! I owned the DVD too! And Jennifer's Body is always an interesting film to talk about. It was my first NC16 movie-theater experience, and it came out nearly a decade ago, but I still remember how this film flopped so bad and 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' was the number 1 box office movie at the time! I remembered reading review threads on how critics and audience shitted on it mainly because of Megan Fox. They were complaining about her lack of acting skills to carry the film & that the film was neither scary nor funny. Personally, I blamed Sony Pictures for the bad marketing move for this movie; they used Megan Fox celebrity star power and her being the sex symbol(at the time) as the main focus, marketing it towards their intended target audience: Straight guys! Think about it - The fucking gotdamn iconic kiss + Probability of seeing Megan Fox naked + Gory horror sequence = Box Office confirmed, a no brainer! Well.... They didn't get what they paid for! The film turned out to be what most straight guys will get easily turned off - A chick flick! It's essentially about coming of age, girlhood and friendship dynamics between in the female world. The unique selling point is that it's set in a campy horror setting.The creators dubbed it as a horror comedy but it was neither that scary nor that funny. You have to hit a home-run on at least one, but it failed on both sides of the spectrum. I personally don't mind it because as a 17 year old gay boy, it forced me to think of different perspective - Girl world, Bisexuality, Queerness. People predicted Jennifer's body to be a cult classic someway somehow. I did too, but nearly a decade later, what I didn't predict the film to have was a massive queer cult following, but it made so much sense now. Had this film came out today with a queer marketed audience in mind and a less campy script + that mainstream 'Love Simon' marketing treatment; it could be iconic.

Mostly agree with what you said but the campy script is probably one of the main reasons why it's got a cult following. Fans quote the film like crazy 😄 If anything this sort of dream/fairytale like horror setting (the world in Jennifer's Body has that strange twisted reality to it, similar to films like It Follows) with quirky humor and dialogue have actually become more common now especially with the advent of streaming. Indeed Diablo Cody, the writer of Jennifer's Body, said in an interview that she had tried to pitch a Jennifer's Body TV show, but had always received a resounding no. But now in the past few years she's gotten a lot more phone calls about it from interested parties, and I doubt that's solely down to the film having gained a cult following. The premise, setting and quirky dark tone really wouldn't feel out of place in the current TV series landscape IMHO.

(Also the first track from the album, "Violet", plays when Amanda Seyfried goes to take revenge and murder the band.)

not done watching this but had to pause to say: as someone who was on tumblr about 7 or 8 years ago i can tell you now that there were gifs and youtube clips of the one gay scene in jennifer's body for a good period of time. it's just that we got actual gay content over the years and it got pushed to the back.
I loved this movie so much when I was younger & now it makes so much sense. Another thing this movie portrays really well that u guys kinda touched at is same sex attraction confusion where u don't know if u want to BE that person or be WITH that person. Its something I notice in all of my crushes & honestly I'll take either or but when ur younger & still unsure of ur sexuality it makes things confusing. Sometimes u confuse real attraction with envy & convince urself u hate someone. When Jennifer is about to kill Chip she starts to hook up with him & says something along the lines of "tell me I'm better than Needy" this is definitely one of those times. The whole movie hints at the gayness but I don't think we ever fully understand the complexity of their relationship. At least I didn't when I was younger. Now it makes a lot more sense. The jealousy, envy, & love/hate of their friendship. I couldn't understand why they said they loved each other & were best friends but Jennifer acted so mean. Now I get it.

i think that the reason why the movie is called "Jennifer's Body", is because the band Hole has a song with the same title. and also one of Hole's songs ("Violet", to be exact) is playing at the end of the movie. so i'm pretty sure the director was inspired by Hole's song lol

I didn't dislike her but was indifferent but after coming across this channel and watching this series especially, I'm all about some Amanda. She's absolutely brilliant. She shines. Lindsay Ellis has a great academic-style review of how Megan Fox was framed in Transformers! Her character in the movie is actually quite interesting if you listen to what she says but she‘s always shot in a way to make her look like a model, as in the thing Michael Bay wants the audience to think about.

Jennifer's Body was HUGE on tumblr back when it came out and the few years after. I joined way back in 2009 (almost 10 years on tumblr JFC) and there were gifs EVERYWHERE. This was peak emo/scene/hardcore trend too so those gifs were a good way to make your tumblr more ~edgy

Ok, I might be the only gay guy here, but Megan Fox is for everyone! I owned the DVD too! And Jennifer's Body is always an interesting film to talk about. It was my first NC16 movie-theater experience, and it came out nearly a decade ago, but I still remember how this film flopped so bad and 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' was the number 1 box office movie at the time!
I remembered reading review threads on how critics and audience shitted on it mainly because of Megan Fox. They were complaining about her lack of acting skills to carry the film & that the film was neither scary nor funny. Personally, I blamed Sony Pictures for the bad marketing move for this movie; they used Megan Fox celebrity star power and her being the sex symbol(at the time) as the main focus, marketing it towards their intended target audience: Straight guys! Think about it - The fucking gotdamn iconic kiss + Probability of seeing Megan Fox naked + Gory horror sequence = Box Office confirmed, a no brainer! Well.... They didn't get what they paid for!
The film turned out to be what most straight guys will get easily turned off - A chick flick! It's essentially about coming of age, girlhood and friendship dynamics between in the female world. The unique selling point is that it's set in a campy horror setting.The creators dubbed it as a horror comedy but it was neither that scary nor that funny. You have to hit a home-run on at least one, but it failed on both sides of the spectrum. I personally don't mind it because as a 17 year old gay boy, it forced me to think of different perspective - Girl world, Bisexuality, Queerness.
People predicted Jennifer's body to be a cult classic someway somehow. I did too, but nearly a decade later, what I didn't predict the film to have was a massive queer cult following, but it made so much sense now. Had this film came out today with a queer marketed audience in mind and a less campy script + that mainstream 'Love Simon' marketing treatment; it could be iconic.

Mostly agree with what you said but the campy script is probably one of the main reasons why it's got a cult following. Fans quote the film like crazy 😄
If anything this sort of dream/fairytale like horror setting (the world in Jennifer's Body has that strange twisted reality to it, similar to films like It Follows) with quirky humor and dialogue have actually become more common now especially with the advent of streaming.
Indeed Diablo Cody, the writer of Jennifer's Body, said in an interview that she had tried to pitch a Jennifer's Body TV show, but had always received a resounding no. But now in the past few years she's gotten a lot more phone calls about it from interested parties, and I doubt that's solely down to the film having gained a cult following.
The premise, setting and quirky dark tone really wouldn't feel out of place in the current TV series landscape IMHO.

I loved this movie so much when I was younger & now it makes so much sense.
Another thing this movie portrays really well that u guys kinda touched at is same sex attraction confusion where u don't know if u want to BE that person or be WITH that person. Its something I notice in all of my crushes & honestly I'll take either or but when ur younger & still unsure of ur sexuality it makes things confusing. Sometimes u confuse real attraction with envy & convince urself u hate someone.
When Jennifer is about to kill Chip she starts to hook up with him & says something along the lines of "tell me I'm better than Needy" this is definitely one of those times. The whole movie hints at the gayness but I don't think we ever fully understand the complexity of their relationship.
At least I didn't when I was younger. Now it makes a lot more sense. The jealousy, envy, & love/hate of their friendship. I couldn't understand why they said they loved each other & were best friends but Jennifer acted so mean. Now I get it.

i think that the reason why the movie is called "Jennifer's Body", is because the band Hole has a song with the same title. and also one of Hole's songs ("Violet", to be exact) is playing at the end of the movie. so i'm pretty sure the director was inspired by Hole's song lol

I think Jennifer's body was one of the first movies i was aware had a female director and that pushed it to be a more interesting movie for me as a baby gay (i mostly discovered it thru youtube compilations of gay kisses and tumblr gifs i think) lol. And megan fox definitely got screwed over by transformers and michael bay- watch Nostalgia Chick's retrospective on Transformers and she gives a breakdown about how underutilized and screwed over fox was.
