    Favourite horror tv show has to be goosebumps from when I was a tad pole, id watch that shit on repeat on fox kids and my parents would get me the vhs tapes and I ended up wearing them out from playing them so much. the music and sound effects just give me a warm fuzzy feeling even now when I watch them in my early 30s.

    I am happy to hear others talk about: Tales From the Darkside!! This series, among others including Alfred Hitchcock, spewed up my passion of horror.
    Thanks to a wonderful babysitter, who would let me stay up late, and watch these shows on TV, circa 1987. ❤🎉😢😊

    An old horror style show I enjoyed was the one season CBS show, American Gothic, starring Gary Cole (Lumbergh from Office Space) as an evil sheriff. I was initially drawn in because it's set in my home state of South Carolina, specifically Trinity, SC, a fictitious small town. It was pretty good, but CBS seemed to purposefully sabotage it by showing the episodes out of order. I had bootlegs of it, which I kept and continued to watch even after they officially released the DVDs because the official DVD sets show the episodes in broadcast order instead of the correct order, so you either have to rip the discs yourself and put the episodes in the correct order or use an episode list. I believe there's a German DVD release that has the episodes in the correct order. Not sure why we couldn't ever get that here.

    It is disappointing to hear the quality suffers for Fri 13th series, because I watched that show and loved it very much. That is what I would wish for, to have that series on bluray.

    I kick myself in the ass every day for not grabbing the Monsters complete series when I had the chance and now it’s gone. I also need to grab the Friday The 13th complete series but I think that’s oop as well. There’s a really great X Files complete series from Germany on Blu-ray that has each individual season to its own case. I bought it and it looks incredible. Tales From The Crypt was always my go to show as a kid though. I remember watching the “All Through the house” episode religiously.

    I first saw Freddy's Nightmares when I was 4 years old. It was the one with the girls who ran track and both liked the guy. Just seeing Freddy freaked me out. I had the most intense Freddy nightmares, one of which has stuck with me to this day. While terrifying at the time, that nightmare lives on for me as like a bonus cut nightmare that nobody else has ever seen, which I guess is cool, but I wish we had Dream VCRs/DVRs so we could record our dreams and watch them back when conscious, although I think they might not look fully like we perceived at the time.

    I believe the biggest issue with shows from the 80s/90s not getting upgraded in terms of quality is that while they were shot on film, the vast majority of the post-production(editing/dubbing/special effects) work was done on video.

    S1E1 of Tales from the Darkside has a special place in my heart (Trick or Treat). Remember watching that on TV as a really young kid and it scared the crap out of me. Years later I kept trying to remember what it was that scared me so bad (the Devil that kept saying "you're getting warmer") and could never remember. Decades later I saw the episode on TV and finally solved my mystery. Love that show. I would have to put Tales from the Crypt as my favorite over Darkside as a whole IMHO.

    PSI factor, more sci-fi but definitely a lot of horror elements in some episodes. Created by Peter Ackroyd and every episode is hosted and introduced by Dan Ackroyd. Ran for 4 seasons from 96-2000 worth a watch 👍🏻

One is Monsters from the 80s the follow-up to Tales From The Darkside each episode was a different monster it's available on DVD. It's my favorite horror tv series from yesteryear. Also you're missing Channel Zero I think this boxed set came with 2 or 3 different series. I have it on DVD and it was sold at Walmart. Freddy's Nightmares isn't great. Nightmare is my favorite movie/franchise. I used to do some VHS and DVD trading back in the old internet days, the 90s and early 2000s. I got two different sets of Freddy's Nightmares episodes, although they had a handful that were the same broadcast. I even somehow ended up with early cuts/workprints and some dailies of a couple of the Nightmare movies on VHS. Those were cool and I wish I knew what the hell I did with them. Probably still at my dad's house in storage. Anyhow, I'm going purely from my crappy memory, but I believe Englund/Freddy is in 7 of the episodes as the villain. Those were the ones I liked and watched the most, but even some of those were pretty bad. I get it, they had a shoestring budget and probably shot them all in a short amount of time. I'm not hating, but the few Friday the 13th episodes/parts of episodes I've seen sure looked like significantly higher overall productions. They had their act together more, whichever company made it (Paramount?).

  • @justicierodelaliga
    @justicierodelaliga ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I watched the entire SUPERNATURAL series. I personally despised when they moved away from the whole original supernatural concept in terms of horror and went all the way to angels and demons. More so, since they never had the budget to to them properly.
    As for AMERICAN HORROR STORY all the Seasons were the same. They started strong and slowly became weaker and weaker. My favorite Season is the Assylum one. Although the 80´s Summer Camp was really good too.
    I remember fondly TALES FROM THE CRYPT. And yes, amazing how many A list actors were there. And as fun as it was for me watching it on weekends there´s nothing better than watching it late night trough the morning. Particularly on a rainy day/night and if you happen to be sick "better".
    To me, the best quality horror TV show overall is MASTERS OF HORROR. More often than not all the episodes were great and all had movie quality production.

    Kino has released some great horror related series’ as well. They put out the Night Gallery seasons, Kolchak: The Night Stalker complete series, and Christopher Lee’s Theatre Macabre except for that one you need to buy the first volume of the Christopher Lee Collection. However they’ve put out some of the films separately recently so hopefully that series gets one as well because that complete set is expensive as hell.
