My idler pulley adjuster top nut froze up and snapped the bolt/rod off. So what I did was have my buddy push down real hard on the idler pulley while I quickly tightened the nut on the pulley so it stayed put. Him pushing down with the handle end of a hammer (anything long really) was just enough to tension the belt adequately.
Holy cow! Thank you! I had to replace the alternator and broke the idler pulley adjuster bolt while trying to loosen it.
