Great Educational work of the island where I was raised and contributed at large to me becoming what I am today. My heart is filled with gratitude. Congratz & well done!
Wasn't born on this island, but I do (somewhat) live here now. I truly enjoyed watching this video, learned a few things I didn't know. I hope to keep. On learning more about Curaçao's (Korsow) rich cultural background.
one thing I got from this that before European enslave the africans they already had there religion and culture but why was it banned by the European why were they not allow to practice there spiritual there religion .
@@naizcur His name was Henrique Fleuranges. He passed before I was born here in NY. I did find an artist named Jose Maria Capricorne from Curacao that is related to the Fleuranges family but even his family doesn't know much. I've found most of them were released from slavery in 1862 by a family named Quartel but my great great grandmother Derfina Fleuranges wasn't listed.
@@joffyjazz another last name that may be related to your family is willems. you can find more on the site of old archives of curacao. it's nationaalarchief . cw .... but the site is in dutch, so it might be a little bit difficult for you but you can try or use translate to help you if you don't know dutch. and also your lastname indeed it's one of the oldest since the time of slavery. i found out too that some info on the site that the name of your great grandmother have been wrong writed, it can happen because not everyone in the past could've write or read so well. the name was wroted delfina instead of Derfina. also i found the entire name and birthdate of your grandfather which is henrique marcelo fleuranges and he was born on 20th of april 1886, his mother name was maria natividad (marie) fleuranges (daughter of derfina) which had another child too with the name of rodolfo elogio fleuranges born on 1st of december in 1888 i hope this info might help you a little bit more. greetings from curacao :)

We have many dishes, music and traditions that we are able to trace back to other cultures. Wow! Makes me so proud to be part of this rich culture! Well done!
Wow!! We are all the same people it's amazing. I've seen shared elements in Jamaica and among the Garinagu of central America. Amazing.
