Hey Cam, as an owner of MANY Hue lights (and I just bought my first set of outdoor lights and my 2nd bridge) - I have to say this was the best "here's how I did this" videos for Hue I've ever seen. You really helped me plan my future outdoor adventures, and I appreciate you taking so much time to document this! Beautiful work, beautiful backyard. Nice work with the Moon, too. THANK YOU CAM!
Wow! That Gazeebo view with the moon was sooooo sexy! I need to put one in my back yard for me in the Mrs. We have about 18 hue lights in our home so far, but it's time for the outside.
I have been with Hue since 2013 and LOVE THEM. Just moved into our newly built house the end of October 10/27/22 to be exact. I now I have HUE outdoor lights. Did you bury the cables? What about the connectors? I am in Vegas and have desert landscaping so the black cords are an eyesore....
Congrats! Yes, I buried most of the cables or hid excess wire & connectors under bushes. Honestly, even though the cords might stick out a bit eventually you just top seeing them.
Nice vid thanks. Question @2:40 top left hand corner - is that the lightstrip controller connected in series? So can you power one or more lightstips and a lamp from one power supply [with extensions and T-junctions etc]
So the small power supply box is an actual mini transformer? No need to buy and install a transformer? I also noticed you did not trench or bury the wires. I’m assuming everything is waterproof?
Yes, all the hue cabling is water resistant and can be used outdoors. The fountain is plugged into a hue enabled plug: th-cam.com/video/ixKtpBwuLkY/w-d-xo.html You can get extra additional cables from any Hue retailer (i.e. Best Buy, Amazon, etc)
Hey man question for you since you have experience with the outdoor led strip and the pedestal lights: which one would you recommend to light up a putting green? It would be in the backyard in a dark spot that stretches 32 feet. The only other source that would be nearby is one regular bulb in the patio. I could do either, just trying to see what would make more sense. Also, are you still satisfied with your Hue products? Thanks in advance!
Yes, absolutely love the Hue products- they continue to work flawlessly. I don't have a ton of experience with lighting something like a putting green but I think you'd get way more light out of the pedestals by arranging them around the green. Best of luck!
how did you get power to the lights on your pergola? from about 9:30 - about 9:50 it shows them. i have a pergola myself.i am looking to add lights to mine but trying to figure out the best route.
@@TheStockpile if you *_really_* wanna add lights in the front, you could always add security cameras in the area I guess... for my neighborhood it's pretty safe where nobody would steal em.
They are actually giant styrofoam blocks covered in concrete. There is a 200 gallon reservoir under the rocks, along with a water pump and some PVC piping. We've had that fountain for a long time and it's probably time for a major overhaul 🤔
Can each light be a different color and can you program them to do a color change sequence like when you have a lighting dimming board or do you have to manually change the colors? I’m trying to get a constant color-changing thing going to illuminate the woods I have outside of my back door. The trees are 50 feet tall.
@@TheStockpile I am researching a lighting project right now. So double check this ......but I think it depends on the wattage capacity of the transformer.....in Europe it appears that there is a 40 watt and a 100 watt version....so with the 40 watt version 5 eight watt lights and with the 100 watt...20x 8 watt lights?
‘That moon is ridiculous’ haha.

Doesn't look like you live in a neighborhood where theft is a problem, bro. Thanks for the vid!
Nice job man.
Beautiful garden!
Great video on the outdoor Hue. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Beautiful setup
Love it

Loved it, keep them coming!
Fastest cat alive 9:50
Very nice
Great vid... Can you burry the T conectors and the cable so they're not visible? I hate visible cables...
You can definitely bury the connectors.
Great review - love the adlibs. Ha!
what setting did you have the moon on?
Very cool! looks great!!!

So can you power one or more lightstips and a lamp from one power supply [with extensions and T-junctions etc]
Yes, that's correct. However, I think you hit the max capacity with a longer power strip though.
So the small power supply box is an actual mini transformer? No need to buy and install a transformer? I also noticed you did not trench or bury the wires. I’m assuming everything is waterproof?
Correct and correct 😀
Did you ever try the Hue Labs scenes for outdoors
I have- cool stuff.
Bro front yard, thanks for the vid
Trust in another Cam
are the outdoor wires water proof ? where did you get them?>? if the fountain plugged in also?
Yes, all the hue cabling is water resistant and can be used outdoors.

@@TheStockpile ok thanks.. where did you get fountian?
Can you put bollards and spots on the same power connection?
Yep! You can mix and match any kinds of lights (up to three) on the same circuit.

The light fixtures were already part of the pergola and I just added the hue bulbs.
The lights look great. Are those hue fixtures on the gazebo, or, just regular fixtures with hue bulbs?
Just regular fixtures with the hue bulbs (although Philips does make some very cool Hue fixtures now).
Great video. I'm not sure about out front. Possible theft? Might be too costly to install in front yard. Depends where you live I guess.
I'll probably just pop a few out for Halloween but not leave them in the front permanently.
@@TheStockpile if you *_really_* wanna add lights in the front, you could always add security cameras in the area I guess... for my neighborhood it's pretty safe where nobody would steal em.
Tell me about that waterfall!!! Where can I get one like that?
They are actually giant styrofoam blocks covered in concrete. There is a 200 gallon reservoir under the rocks, along with a water pump and some PVC piping. We've had that fountain for a long time and it's probably time for a major overhaul 🤔
How much did that cost for all of the lights?
It's been awhile but I think it was around 2K? They are probably a little less expensive now.
Are the transformers waterproof then? Do you leave them outside whilst the plug is sealed from water?
Yes, they are weatherproof. I've had them outside this whole time- no issues 👍🏽
Can each light be a different color and can you program them to do a color change sequence like when you have a lighting dimming board or do you have to manually change the colors? I’m trying to get a constant color-changing thing going to illuminate the woods I have outside of my back door. The trees are 50 feet tall.
Yes, each light can be a different color. Using the app (Hue Labs) you can create a color changing sequence. Totally doable!
Is the transformer also waterproof? I saw that you've got it flat on the ground. Thank you!
As far as I know, yes.
Do you HAVE to have it as a separate bridge??
Yes, over a certain number of lights (about 50) you have to have an additional bridge.
What's the max number of lights per transformer? you mentioned you may be able to do more than 5... did you test it? is 6 possible?
I have not tested it yet. The most I have needed on any transformer so far is four. If I was a betting man I'd say six would be fine.

This light need any hub ?
Yes, you need a hub for aprox. every 50 lights.
theoretically 55 lights per bridge... and you've got two bridges... how many lights did you actually buy in total? 🤔 🤗
I think I'm rocking about 80 lights at the moment and then 7 accessory devices.
@@TheStockpile love it... a true hue home 👍

Salut! Désolé, je ne me suis pas familiarisé avec l’appli you sync.
@@TheStockpile d’accord merci comme même
Hue uses Zigbee, not Wi-Fi!
The hub connects to Wifi and you control the lights via the hub 😅
@@TheStockpile the Hue Bridge connects to your router via Ethernet, and your Hue lights connect to the Hue Bridge via ZigBee. No Wi-Fi is involved!

It was a cat! A bunny-like cat.

It's one of our cats. But he does look like a rabbit.
