Many thanks for an excellent video, indirectly solving my problem by hinting at a folder naming issue! It appears that TWRP 3.4.0 has stopped using the serial number subfolder, so when I tried to restore a backup I made with TWRP 3.3.1 I couldn't find it. The solution was to move the actual backup subfolder from /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/no-longer-used-serial-number/ to /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/, and now TWRP 3.4.0 found it and I was able to restore my backup!
This video is GOLD, would like to NOTE however that this only worked for me when I moved the desire ROM to my phone's INTERNAL STORAGE. Did not work with OTG USB.

bro i had a problem with my samsung grand prime,i was trying to change os and i installed twrp on phone and successfully its rooted and i wiped the data and the default of but unfortunatly i didt copied the os file in the memory card and i suddendly came back to copy the os but now i cant enter into it it just showng boot screen only the phone s almost dead plz help me to recover
You can also get the serial number by either entering the command in the TWRP terminal or from your computer via ADB. Enter this: *getprop ro.boot.serialno*

I'm problem is that there is so many check boxes to select and I don't know which ones I need to check. I checked all of them and my backup file was 31GB... Too big.. I just want to back up the system and apps really.. Thanks.

This is a useful and well-explained tutorial. My difficulty however is that /sdcard is not mounting or showing any contents. Thanks anyway
Especially good guide for those who aren't used to TWRP or never encountered this issue.

Boot on TWRP, connect the phone to PC, download your ROM and put it on your SD Card
