He's haunted by the death of his loved one, contemplating entering the cemetary gates willingly (self inflctedly) - to follow his love that was pulled away before her time, asking the reverend to save his soul from condemnation, in vain. It's deep. I lost a close friend in 2001 and thought for months about any way to see her again, any way! At the time I felt no pain, just anger. I still wonder aloud sometimes when I'm alone if she's watching over me. This song was therapy and I still cry when I hear it.
This is the shortened version for Mtv. The album version is MUCH better with a whole intro w/ an acoustic, piano and vocal intro. It just makes it an overall complete song. This version just abruptly starts into that heavier riff without any buildup. This version is less effective because of that. *btw: the story about your friend @ 6:22 , was something I relate can relate to. When I finally started getting my life together and decided I was not going to quit, I started viewing my past negative experiences in the exact same way that you described. I started recognizing the bad sh*t from my past as a necessary part of the story. And I decided to use them almost as a tool for my life. Today, I actually like myself, and I wouldn't be who I am today had those events never occurred. So I'm thankful. Thank you for sharing that story. ❤
The back and forth between phil Anselmo high notes and dimebag Darrell guitar at the end always get me chill rip dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul (Pantera's drummer as well)
Phil once said that he thought Darrell was the greatest guitar player he could think of because Darrell could make a guitar sound like it was literally crying and screaming
him and randy rhodes were both taken before they could really reach their peak. both were among the best already but both also had so much potential to make the playing we know them for seem like beginner stuff by comparison. Neither was even close to the pinnacle they would have reached
@@IceMan2035almost forgot to put Stevie Ray Vaughn in there too. Hendrix himself went to great lengths to help Stevie grow and if Jimi bets on you being the next greatest it means something.
I went through a similar dark time after a break up and another song that you have reacted to, "Spirits will collide" by Devin Townsend helped me get through it. I am not ashamed to admit that when I saw him perform it live last november, that I shed a few tears ( good tears ) during it.
OMG, I wasn't expecting that. Thank you so much for your intake on this song and its message. For me, it's some reprocessing because of the way my Dad taught me at a young age. Especially when it came to showing tears or compassion. It was a sign of weakness and we have to be strong or otherwise someone will take advantage of that. It's a wonderful feeling to finally let the sorrow and heartache go and able to open my heart and life for others. ❤you Amanda and thank you so much for sharing.
Im so glad to finnaly see this request. It's a truly great song and for me it has it's own special place. I had just lost a friend and just a few days before his funeral i heard this song and the lyrics just hit so hard. Love these react videos, keep them coming ❤
the drummer of MASTODON BRANN DAILOR lost his twin sister skye as a teen and as a tribute wrote CRACK THE SKYE (song) which was also the album title-well worth checking out had to have been extremely hard to process that type of loss but the music is a great tribute
I loved at 5:30 when the 🤟started coming out.😁 And now, Dime(guitar) and Vinne(drummer), brothers, are gone. I'm glad you got to experience this amazing song!
Oh hell yeah. Pantera. This reminds me I need to listen to "Cowboys from Hell" later on today after I get back from running errands. So this song, there's a particular line in it that reminds me of my past and I feel like I know exactly what Phil is saying here. "And when she died, I should've cried, and spared myself some pain." I've been there. More than once. More than twice. So many funerals. You get to this point after a while that sometimes, some people get emotionally numb and I've been guilty of that. It's not that I'm afraid to be emotional in front of anyone. It's that at times, I guess the easiest way to explain it is I'm "empty." Take a glass of water, and pour it out. No more water comes out afterward, right? Same concept.
I grew up listening to Pantera (One of my all-time favorite bands). This song has always just been a good song, and really didn't have much meaning to me until about 5 years ago when I lost my wife to cancer. Now I total relate and live these lyrics. I get emotional every time I hear this song.
This song is magic! Always loved it since the release of the album. The feeling, the mood, the lyrics and the final guitar vs vocal is fantastic. The solo is magic to. This song is so much more sad now when Dimebag is missed!!! Have you my feelgood song? Dark Funeral - My Funeral....
Oh Amanda so many things i need to share with you. You always strike a nerve in me.ive learned so much over the 14 years since my wife me and my girls. I won't say it on here. My favorite thing you said it's a chapter in a book. I had 13 incredible years and i truly appreciate it. My daughters do too. I embrace it and now it the happiest memories ever. Im almost 55. I'm blessed for those years.
Phil’s voice is so incredible. His range is incredible. He’s hitting like a G5 which is very very difficult to do. Usually when people try and hit that note it sounds very tinny but Phil nails it. I’m 46 years old,Gen X, and Pantera is still one of my favorite bands ever. I’ve seen them 4-5 times, mostly in the 90’s, and they never disappointed. “Vulgar Display of Power “ came out when I was a sophomore in high school and it’s one of the best metal albums of all time. If you have never listened to the whole album do yourself a favor a listen to it. If you are going on a road trip put that jank in and enjoy because it’s a masterpiece. “Cowboys from Hell” and “ Far beyond driven” are also amazing albums but “Vulgar” is unbelievable
I'm glad your doing well for I two have failed 3 times and it was a hard struggle fighting the demons everyday for 15 years then I started to tell the truth, well I was honest on how I felt to my Dr. and was given the right meds and I have not had those thoughts since. I have heard you say a few things about the loses in your life that sent you down the rabbit hole "Grief - is nothing more than LOVE that has no where to go" remember to always focus on the good times you had and they will get you through the tough times and as you already know and have done, talk the truth to your loved ones and Dr.
I definitely agree that you should check out the Pantera songs "Hollow", and maybe "Floods". I don't know if you want to hear "Suicide Note Pt. 1 & 2" - unless you want to talk about pure anger and hopelessness. A song that isn't by Pantera that you should check out: "Breathe" by The Warning. I recommended it to a friend who had lost her daughter to suicide, and she found it very meaningful.
Pantera has a song called Hallow which captures an emotion between two people. Seems like Phil, the vocalist is singing about Dimebag, the guitarist. It's worth checking out.
Pantera - Hollow is a very emotional song I would recommend doing "I'm close with his mother And she cries endlessly Lord, how we miss him At least what's remembered It's so important To make best friends in life But it's hard when my friend Sits with blank expressions"
One of the best bands of all time especially live. You could hear the passion when you were talking in the court about what you think should happen. I agree with you there's not enough limitations on some charges if there not sex crimes etc...
Great song. Thank you for the review, analysis, and sharing your knowledge. The actual song is longer than this video version which makes it better for me.
Love Pantera. Check out their songs Hollow and Suicide Note Part 1 and Suicide Note Part II, too. Your ears might not appreciate Part II if you're new to metal, but lots of good stuff to talk about in there.
Easily one of my favorite Pantera songs. Just phenomenal. But if you want a song that will truly make you feel like you're at a funeral, check out Candlemass- "Mourner's Lament".
Pantera was an amazing band, Dimebag was just a virtuoso on guitar. I miss him. I’ve commented before, and you replied, and helped some. Unfortunately I’m worse now than I’ve been in a long time. I’m finding it more difficult day by day to find a reason to keep going on. If it wouldn’t leave my wife in a financial ruin, I doubt I’d be hanging on. I’m not in danger, I’m not going to do anything, but to me, I’m not alive, I’m just existing. I live with a pretty severe depression, severe chronic pain that’s debilitating and loneliness. For a married guy that’s odd to say I know, but my wife works and isn’t home much, and I’m alone 90% of the time. I have no friends here, left them behind when we moved and this small town really doesn’t have people like…me. I feel like I’m just waiting for that inevitable heart attack to happen due to weight, pain and a very inactive lifestyle. To top that I have a major panic disorder, anxiety and agoraphobia. I’m trying to change, but money, pain, mental issues and just a total lack of motivation is really feeling impossible to overcome. We found out we owe the IRS and since we live paycheck to paycheck, we don’t have it. The stress lately has been off the charts…..which will likely lead to a really bad outcome. Sorry…I’m just venting. I don’t have many people to confide in, and tend to trauma dump when I hit my limit. I’m sorry if this bothers anyone, it’s not my intention.
Check out five bolt main "the gift". A very emotional song about the the singer who as a child was adopted but the woman who adopted him killed herself. Very sad song but also a very good one
To those in the Know , the guitar solo 🎸 is more telling them the vocals or lyrics , But you really have to be in tune with spirits to grasp that ✨ Lucky Me
Obviously not for a video, but for yourself personally, check out the studio version of the song. The music video cuts out a very soft, beautiful intro that builds up to where the music video kicks in. The lyrics you mentioned “Crucified for no sins” are part of that intro.
It aways bugged me how the record company, or whoever, cut out the intro in the music video. What a strange choice. The build-up is what makes the main riff hit so hard. Oh well, still a badass, classic song haha
As always, great reaction. You should listen to the album version of this song when you get a chance though... the video cuts out a good chunk of the song (the entire intro).
One explanation for the chorus I've seen is that in the area where they are from there's a superstition that ghosts will slip into your car and escape the cemetary with your help, and thus they lock their doors and windows tight when visiting cemetary. But here the main character is unlocking the doors and then driving out of the gates, implying they are missing them so much they'd welcome even a ghost of them to come along. Another way to interpret it would be that it's a rebellious act against established beliefs, those superstitions held by people who try to put them in line. Sounds a bit weird, but it does explain how the chorus fits into the theme of the song.
Pantera is one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately, in 2004, he guitarist was shot on stage by a disturbed individual and died in front of his brother the drummer. The drummer died of heart failure in 2018 I think. Phil Anselmo (vocalist) and Rex Brown (bassist) have tried to recreate the band with two new members. But I know it will never be the same. Thank you for covering this song. ❤🤍💙
This song was written about a suicide pact between two friends of the band that only one followed through with but was written vaguely so that it removed the personal connection to the actual people involved and made the song a little easier to interpret as something not so directly based on a specific thing
Unlocking the door or rolling down the windows while driving past a graveyard was a superstition considered to be introducing spirits to hitch a ride. That's why a lot of older people locked their car doors and rolled the windows up when driving past one back in the day. The POV of this song is from a grieving person who backed out of a suicide pact and is questioning faith, questioning his feelings for the other person because they didn't keep the pact and the other one did.
I would suggest a song by chaosyum called " smile again" if you want to dive deep into the mental aspect of " copeing" Im sure you'll ponder on this song for days . I claim it as my theme song
Hi Amanda, once in a while I'll add a comment. Well today is one. I think a song you should react to is Liar by The Rollins Band. I'm sure we all can relate in some way. Also the Falling In Reverse "reimagined" version of the Papa Roach song Last Resort (warning on that one, you need to be in a good place or it will wreck you). One more empowering song would be the Hatebreed song I will be Heard. Keep putting out videos! I for one appreciate you.
I can relate to this song in Si many levels. It reminds me of my mother. When I was young, she was an abusive monster. I still have 100 scars in my head where I was burned with cigarettes.i won't go into the horrors of my childhood. Later on I was introduced to satanism .I had practiced it for over 35 years bc all I knew was pain and hatred. About 8 years ago I went to church, denounced my former practice and was saved. My mother was very close to death, and told me she was proud of me. About 8 months before she died we had a Conversation . She told me when she was young she made deals with satan and promised him to get things...( To this day i believe that thing was me)..i never knew this. In the end,her ex satanic son led her to salvation on her death bed. The pastor went to her and told her that I forgave her for everything she had done...all is forgiven He told her God would forgive her too. this song hits hard. Who would have known it would have turned out that way ? Now,I believe the word. Like my mother,I will unlock my door, and pass the cemetery gates Love you Amanda!❤❤❤❤❤
You should check out The River Flows Frozen by Eternal Tears of Sorrow and Take This Life by In Flames The River is a ballad that gets heavy as it goes but that outro solo says more than any words And Take This Life is heavy but so are the lyrics and very important positive reinforcement in a very aggressive song
My mom passed in 2016 3 days after Christmas bad unexpected divorce four long term relationships ended blamed on me so done with that shit love your videos I’ve been in a dark place several Times
I've struggled daily with suicidal ideations for years. As well as homicidal, which they left off the report. Can't be a liability, even if you jumped off the hospital roof
I'm deeply sorry to hear that you've been struggling with such intense thoughts for so long. I know it's incredibly difficult to cope with. It's unfortunate that sometimes the complexity of our experiences isn't fully understood by others. It's crucial to find someone who can listen and support you without judgment. It sounds like you've tried talking to a mental health professional, but it's important to realize that not every therapist and not every treatment type is effective for every person. It might be worth looking into other options. I am so glad that you have a safe space here where you can express these feelings openly. It's an important part of the journey. Remember, you're not alone, and there are people who care about you and want to help.
You should check out their songs suicide note part 1/2 they need to go together. Both awesome songs that paint a picture of how much lead singer Phil anselmo was struggling.
there is the full version of this song, which starts more gently. kinda giving more angle on the message, imo. and good luck with the appeal, coz you might just change a lot more people's lifes with it.
I love this song, i end up crying like a school girl lol......additional, is that a bruise from a cannula on the back of your right hand? I work in the medical feild, just curiuos. scrap that. its too uniform, its either a tattoo or a stamp for a club or gig haha
I'd like to see you do a reaction to No Way Out by Bullet fir my Valentine. Break down the lyrics to it and seeing what you'd have to say on that one I'd find very intriguing.
And if not only the story , but your life come to an end after such thing? What if you feel empty inside , not able to love and feel the love again, dont have anything for live for? What if im so tired and hurt, that i dont wana make any comitment , any step anymore? What , if i only waiting it to end?
@@MentalAmanda Ye , my tomorrows are all the same 6 months already. And i dont see how that will change , if i not do something about it. And i just dont wana do anything. See if i pick the easy or the hard way. Tnx for the messige
Could you please react to the song Alive by P.O.D!!! It’s such an uplifting song that holds deep meaning to me, while my mom was fighting a losing battle with cancer, that song kept me sane ❤❤❤
That ending is obviously just bonkers. As I understand it, Phil goes up to an E5, an F5 and even a G5. With Dimebag matching him each time on guitar. It’s so wildly over-the-top and incredible. But, I agree with you as far as tears and crying. Men and women are still held to different standards that cause harm. Males are expected to refrain from tears, which can build up sorrow inside. While females are expected to be very emotional, which can deter them from being strong. And yes, life is to be lived. The meaning of life is to live your own.

Pantera is one band that makes me Happy
They're loud angrey p***** off.
Fast. They put me in a happy mood
Love this
This song was written about a suicide pact between two friends of the band that only one followed through with but was written vaguely so that it removed the personal connection to the actual people involved and made the song a little easier to interpret as something not so directly based on a specific thing
💔
Dimebag Darrell was and still is one of the most influential guitarists in metal history. Take care of yourself and get well young lady.
You should react to Hollow. One of their most heartbreaking songs
I would suggest a song by chaosyum called " smile again" if you want to dive deep into the mental aspect of " copeing"
Im sure you'll ponder on this song for days .
I claim it as my theme song
You should react to “Sober” by BAD WOLVES. And “Strong For Someone Else” by Tommy Vext solo.
Thank you!
Gotta do "Hollow" next!!
Boys Don't Cry by The Cure is a good one. Simple but a classic.
I wanna see you react to life of agony. The song ,my eyes, or any song off of the river runs red.
Thank you ❤
excellent video!
The pastor went to her and told her that I forgave her for everything she had done...all is forgiven
He told her God would forgive her too.
this song hits hard.
Who would have known it would have turned out that way ?
Now,I believe the word. Like my mother,I will unlock my door, and pass the cemetery gates
Love you Amanda!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing and I am glad you found your peace.
You should check out The River Flows Frozen by Eternal Tears of Sorrow and Take This Life by In Flames
The River is a ballad that gets heavy as it goes but that outro solo says more than any words
And Take This Life is heavy but so are the lyrics and very important positive reinforcement in a very aggressive song
The album version of this song is longer and brings a whole new look to the song if you've never heard it.
Check out my favorite 2 groups, Death and Carcass, yes, i know, it sounds bad, but the music is just amazing @Mental Amanda💯
Your amazing amanda
My mom passed in 2016 3 days after Christmas bad unexpected divorce four long term relationships ended blamed on me so done with that shit love your videos I’ve been in a dark place several
Times
I'm so humbled to bring any solace from such a hearbreaking loss 💔
Great song. Still hoping you decide to do Daddy from Korn though
What you just listened was not full version of a song. I recommend checking album version, because this "official" video is missing the intro :)
there is the full version of this song, which starts more gently. kinda giving more angle on the message, imo.
and good luck with the appeal, coz you might just change a lot more people's lifes with it.
RIP Abbott bros. You definitely shouldn't repress your emotions. It will come back to haunt you. We have them for a reason.
🥰 As always Amanda
I love this song, i end up crying like a school girl lol......additional, is that a bruise from a cannula on the back of your right hand? I work in the medical feild, just curiuos. scrap that. its too uniform, its either a tattoo or a stamp for a club or gig haha
The only thing on my right hand is my Triforce tattoo 😊
@@MentalAmandaaaahh a Zelda tattoo if im not mistaken
Love Pantera, too bad both brothers are gone now, cause even Hell yea kicked ass as a band too
Wish people wouldnt teact to official video it chops 2 mins of a beautiful intro
I had no way of knowing!
Suicide note part 1 and 2 are great songs by pantera give em a listen
You have to react to "Asleep" by The Smiths, that is the ultimate depressing song, I dare you to put a happy, positive thought into that haha
Check out Hollow, by Pantera...that would be a great outlet song for you. Its pain, confusion, hate, anger...please check it out.
Been to the shrine of Dime in Columbus. People who werent alive with Dime or Vinny wouldnt understand
You want to hurt to end, we all want to live without hurt. That is possible. We all have the power to change. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
Should really check out the album version, this one cuts out the whole opening
you should react to Avenge seven fold's song "So far away"
What is the yellow mark on your right hand
Triforce tattoo - a symbol from the Legend of Zelda game series that stands for power, wisdom and courage. 😊
Plenty good tunes enjoy
I don't recommend listening to suicide note part 1&2 on their Great Southern trend Kill album, you may be offended but the album still kicks ass
