I like Jenny Mustard too! You are doing so well at this, the beginning of your TH-cam gig! Thanks for your good info delivered in a nice, gentle, helpful way.
Oh my goodness, I have been watching her videos since I think the first one she ever posted and that was many years ago! Thank you for your kind words. They are so appreciated.
Hello. I live in Australia in a suburb of Brisbane. I was very moved by your story and how you handled losing your job at 56. You are very strong I admire you. Oh, I am French. A bientôt Paulette
Congratulations on 16.5K subscribers! When I subscribed to your channel several weeks ago you had less than 1K. It's amazing how big your channel became in such a short time! You're doing a great job posting interesting videos! Thank you! 😻
@@smallretiredlife as you said in an earlier video, you found a niche and an unmet need. There are many retirement and investment channels, but I haven't seen one that does what you do.
Hi, I wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying your videos. Whilst I live in New Zealand, I did spend 23 years living in Calgary working in the oil & gas industry. Your stories so resinate with me, I too was laid off several times (which as you say is to be expected in the industry). Having said that, I was always able to find more work and was grateful for the Unemployment Insurance to fill the gaps. I'm now also retired and am actually enjoying learning to live on a rather small income. It's nice to hear how you manage it and also your money saving food tips and recipes are great. Looking forward to your next videos and best wishes with your channel.
Great video, I am not retired (nor even close to it) but really enjoy the simple living content and can still get great tips. For your Q&A - I find that one area where I have less control in terms of both budgeting and overall life philosophy (minimalism, sustainability and so on) is socialising, be it with family or friends, like gift giving (and receiving!), holidays, going out to eat etc. I would love to hear your thoughts around how you navigate these situations. Thank you!
Your retirement life is healthy and simple. I love all your simple recipes❤ I notice that you have many Asian rice bowls 😊. That’s the life I want after my retirement.
I think the Rice bowl thing comes from me, having worked in the Philippines. I just love Asian food. When I would fly to Manila from Canada, I would always have the Asian breakfast on the airplane.
this is NOT just for seniors, this is also for younger folks who like saving money and knowing what the ingredients really are in what they're eating. Lots of nice, tasty and healthy recipes! Thank you
I've been cooking myself for ages although i am not retired.i am going to retire next year.all my life i have been using your tips to modest, simple but not boring life.i am ready to ritire and well prepared. Very good chanel t o help women.❤
I made this today, had it in my coffee and it was delicious! I love that it tastes fresh, at least better than the canned and it is so much more economical. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before, I do make almond milk why I never thought of coconut. Thanks for sharing 🌟
Definitely try them. That curry takes like 5 to 10 minutes to make especially if you’re using cooked shrimp or prawn. I make this dish like once a week because it’s so easy and relatively healthy.
Hi fellow Canadian! Yeah, I am not a fan of leftovers unless it’s for one day or it’s something like soup! 😂 so my recipes tend to be for one or two people.
I really enjoy your videos. I am retired, married, grandchildren all around. I enjoy the simplicity of the meals, your knowledge on investments, perhaps, do another video that will be about financials and steps. Your experience is very helpful. I can pass along and learn a few things as well. Keep going will get better with time.🎉
Yum. Really enjoyed this and need to try that curry recipe! Just discovered your channel and am really enjoying your content. I’m also a big Jenny Mustard fan and had a good laugh about the barbarian comment. Thank you for sharing! ❤
Oh my goodness welcome. I am so happy you’re a Jenny Mustard fan. I’ve actually watched her videos since the very first time she posted, which was a long time ago. Definitely try the curry. It literally takes like 10 minutes to make if you’re using cooked prawn, shrimp or tofu. Add an extra, maybe, five minutes if you have to stirfry chicken!
A question for your Q&A. My husband and I are in our 50s with no kids, and are on track to retire by or before 60. Would love to know if there’s anything you are missing from your work life? I’ve been working remotely since the pandemic and am already finding I miss the social aspect of working in an office, along with the work wardrobe that was so much a part of me that I can’t seem to part with it, even though it doesn’t fit my casual lifestyle. Would love to know how your life has changed for the better, as well as for the worse. Thank you for sharing! ❤
Oh wow, thank you for asking those great questions. Definitely will put them on the list. Lol, I should’ve probably asked the question thing at the beginning of the video because people don’t often watch until the end! Live and learn, I guess.
Thanks for sharing your usual recipes. It is the first time I see a curry recipe with tamari sauce. I guess here in Portugal, we have more influences of Indian food from Goa, so the spices and seasonings are different. Keep on with your videos and sharing your improvements, please!
how funny. I just flew into NYC from Copenhagen a couple hours ago....on the flight we were served panang chicken curry and I loved it and thought I'd have to look up a recipe for that!!! Lo and behold....your video came up when I was unwinding at home .....
Great video Raina. Thank you for the recipes. Would love to know if you have any hobbies, exercise routines, activities that you may have that helps fill your day❤
I will 2nd this question. I'm reluctantly retired (made redundant 1 year ago) ....some days are so boring and I find lacking in motivation. Do you miss having that purpose of having work in your life? What do you do to fill in your retired days. Thank you.
In one of your videos you talk about how you follow Stoicism. I have only ever read one book that I guess is classified as Stoicism and that was On Desire by Wlm B Irvine. It was a great book on curbing desire for “things” and other desires. I read it so long ago though that I don’t remember much about it but I know I benefited from it at the time. It would be great in your Q&A if you could talk more about how you found your interest in Stoicism and books that have been helpful to you. Thanks. Oh, as well as your thoughts on tattoos and the meaning behind yours?
Another inspiring video. Thank you. For the Q&A: what hobbies do you have? I enjoy watercolor painting and I love horseback riding, which is on hold for a time as I recover from surgery. I’m in my 70s and still active so this enforced rest is not so easy.
Thank you for watching Ruth! Definitely will put that question on the list! I wish I could do water colour…I can barely draw a straight line. I took a drawing course last year…it was a beginner class…I was the only beginner🤣
Hi Raina, I just wanted to say I’m a new subscriber and love your videos! Each one is very informative and helpful on a variety of topics. I was very fortunate to be able to retire at 49 and I’m now 54. I absolutely love retirement (my husband is retired as well), and am always busy doing one thing or another! I cycle & walk every day, and in the snowy winter weather I switch to my stationary bike inside, and still walk outside daily. I love to cook & bake, and make homemade coconut milk & almond milk regularly, like yourself - I made your panang curry last night and the chia pudding this morning, they are both so good!🤤 I wanted to ask you, what type of Moka pot do you have - is it a Bialetti, and where did you purchase it? Thank you!
Hi sounds like you’re having an amazing life! That sounds like my kind of retirement. The mocha pot is a Bialetti and I purchased it at Hudson Bay Company here in Calgary.
@@smallretiredlife thanks so much Raina! I’ll now be looking at investing into a Bialetti, I enjoy my morning coffee so much and I’ve heard other great recommendations about the Bialetti. I live in Calgary as well,😊, we definitely have long & snowy winters here!
I have a question. I am curious to know what things you did in a regular/daily basis that now you don't do (spend money on clothes, social events, etc). And if you keep the old friends or you have new retired friends, why do I ask that?, just to know if you have things in common with your old friends that are not retired or if you have nothing in common with them any more. Just one more time, I love your channel
Another good video Raina, you are doing amazing, I think with so little experience that you create remarkable videos. 🙌🏼👊🏼 My question is what's your budget, income and portfolio?
Hi, I have a link in the description for Amazon but it’s the Canadian store so if you are elsewhere you can probably get it on your country Amazon page. I got mine at a small, local cooking store called The Cookbook Company. Unsweetened coconut for the coconut milk.
Great question. I can dry it out in my oven and sprinkle it on like cereal and put it in my smoothies. Sometimes I pass it through the blender one more time with a little bit less water and get some more milk out of it. Sometimes I just compost it. But…. I don’t really like to waste stuff.
@@bmackillop9937I think I understand. Apparently I recorded them in mono. I had no idea how that happened…but now I do. They work fine if you are listening on your iPhone, iPad through a direct speaker. If you are using headphones, the sound comes out on one side only. Not good, but there is audio and if you listen through a speaker rather than headphones the audio is totally fine. Not sure why you hear no audio at all.
Yes, if I have to buy it that is the one I buy, but making my own is less expensive, tastes better and has no additives. Silk has guar gum and xantham gum which is not great.
