    That’s awesome you still work on bikes this old. Most shops I’ve been to won’t work on Evo’s let alone shovels and older.

    Sweet sounding shovel. I just moved up from pans and shovels a couple years ago. I skipped evos all together and went to an early twin cam. I do miss my old pans and shovels. They had soul. They had style. They are from when you rode and wrenched your ride. You built it into your own bike. Unless you bought used and someone else's vision, you went to the dealer and bought a blank canvas. Rode it awhile and then started the build process. Eventually you end up with a one of a kind ride. Style. Soul. Blood. Sweat. And tears. Today you just go buy what you want, and take it to the shop for service. It makes me sad in some ways. But hey, i have more tools now. Some of my special tools wont work on my 05 heritage. And i am learning fuel injection tuning. Its loud, its fast, and the only thing stock are the cases, sheetmetal, and frame. And its smooth. Its getting close to what i want but it doesnt have that soul my old bikes had. Its a great bike now but its different somehow. To fix that that is missing, i am building another pan and if i have time a knuckle. I've never owned a knuckle. I have to get it done so i can ride it to the first overhaul before i get too old to ride. The twin cam will be my road bike but the pan will be my love. I have loved every one of those old bikes. This will be big twin number 9 and ground up build number 5. Damn. Seeing this opened the memory banks. 45 years worth. See what you did? Every once in awhile i see something that brings back those memories and this was one of those times. Be safe. 👍👍👍

      They are all dry sump except the German step child V-Rod, Street and the China thing….Doc

  • @erlsv
    @erlsv 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Not to be negative, but anyone who owns an old Shovel or Evo knows that they sump after sitting awhile.
    But, at least Low Country HD still works on the older engines, that's a plus! I personally (like others) wouldn't even attempt to solve a sumping issue as whatever is done usually doesn't fix it.
    The best advice.....Ride it often or run it up often!

    My tip for starting an old shovelhead is make sure you're independently wealthy because you'll have to buy a ton of parts if you ride it regularly...I had one & it consistently broke down almost every time I got past the entrance to my driveway...shovels are best looked at & not ridden...if you actually want to ride a motorcycle rather than constantly have to wrench on it, buy Evo or newer...you'll still have regular repair bills because it's a Harley, but at least it won't break EVERY time...my '99 Road King has been the least troublesome Harley I've owned & it still breaks on occasion...the 2008 CVO Electra Glide I just sold was a money pit & broke fairly regularly over the 2 years I had it, but even it wasn't as bad as the shovel...so if you want a bike that you can go somewhere other than the garage to work on it, leave the shovelheads for museums & collectors who aren't actually going to ride them & buy something else...while I do still have my Road King, I keep a Honda Shadow to ride when it needs work...H.O.N.D.A. because Harley Owners Need Dependable Alternatives...👌🏿😎👍🏿

      @thatsmrharley2u2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You meet the dumbest people on a Honda...My '81 Shovel has been the most dependable bike I've ever owned. I'm the 3rd owner and have put over 100K miles on it. It's called maintenance, man. It has never let me down. Oh...and you know what you can do with your Honda.

    I actually need a tip on the new M8s. I’m new to the H-D world and I have a 2020 FXLRS with about 1800 miles on it. I completed the 1000 mile service , no issues there. The problem I am having is that it seems very easy to slip into neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I was wondering if this is common?
    It happens rather frequently and I thought maybe I’m not being deliberate when shifting or it was happening because I was short shifting, but it still seems to happen even when I try shifting around 20 mph.

    Just about to start up a 85 flh been sitting for 5 years
    Do you suggest oil down spark sparks first before start up or anything

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Very light oil. Putting bike in top gear and rotating the rear wheel by hand. Then using the starter. Remember there is a lot of oil in the crankcase. Just add enough oil in the oil tank to touch the tip of the stick. If there is a breather tube, pointed into a bucket....take it easy on the old girl. she has been sleeping for a while...Doc

    • @joelhilgy
      @joelhilgy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here but 10 years on a 91 heritage, oil looks to be all drained in the bottom end. I have pulled the plugs and will fog the cylinders with light oil and do as you suggest, highest gear and rotate the rear tire, then use starter, all with the plugs out and the breather tube in a pan. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks! Wish me luck 👍🏻
