    We finally installed one! Can't wait to test it out properly.
    Whats one thing on board which has changed the cruising game for you? 💦

      Just a thought on the cutting of the floor joist - if you were to cut it at an angle, you would create some sort of support "automatically" to be used along with the bracket when you reinstall it. th-cam.com/video/LRzVdZ9psrw/w-d-xo.html

      I was wondering when you guys were going to get around to this little item.... Now all you need is a new tape measure. ;)
      Asked you a couple of times where you are headed next (and assuming you are already in Mexico) and just felt curious if you were headed into US waters. Its a good habit to NOT advertise exactly when or where you are going ahead of time, so stick to that. But if you want some tips about where you are going I hope yo have good sources of your own.
      It would be awful if you missed something great by less than an hour of travel time.

    Its called exothermic reaction ! If you mix a large quantity in a deep container, its better to mix it in a shallow container eg more area also you can get a slow reaction hardener/catalyst. Anther tip to strengthen the rib that you cut out use a wider piece of material so instead of a single run of screws use two rows. You are doing great guys and learning as you go. i'm a retired builder and have worked on / rebuilt many boats , caravans and Motorhomes and really enjoy your journey from day one and are envious of the two of you. We travel around New Zealand in our Motorhome in out retirement so a similar lifestyle enjoying all the places along the way. Cheers from Kiwi land !

      Or cut the whole length of timber out in one piece and then fix two “U” sections one at either end. Then you don’t have to screw the length back in just drop it into the channels.

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Even if it was a gift, or was receiving kickbacks, they are installing it on their boat which is a huge undertaking, and will need to rely on it through serious passages. This is not a decision that would be taken lightly. If the quality was not good enough, I doubt they would install it.

  • @Useitorloseit1
    @Useitorloseit1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That PVC coupling you screwed the water fill male adaptor into, is called a repair coupling. Nicely done! The removable Aluminum brackets for the deck hatch support. That is not strong enough, it is nowhere near, emulating pre cut strength. I would like to suggest, doubling the screws on the ends as a minimum till more aluminum can be purchased. Preferably replacing what you did with Aluminum as wide as the deck stringer you cut or doubling what's you just installed with more screws on the ends.

    I would highly recommend a water maker, we have one and it is truly great, pure pure water. One thing I would say is that on your long trips keep your tanks as full as possible just in case your water maker breaks, we also carry emergency water in containers that can proved enough water for a couple of weeks at emergency rations. We have both an ac and dc water maker to give us redundancy, for us it is all about the what ifs. We also have a redundant sweet water pressure pump, it is no good having water without being able to get to it. Finally we have a UV filter just before our tap, it does take power but again reassuring.

    The two of you are amazing. Zach, you are willing to tackel anything and do it well but Becka is out of sight. There ar not many women that have the patience and the skill to tackel unfamiliar jobs and do it with both patience and excellence that Becka displays. And last but not least the two of you make a very enjoyable Tribe to follow. I am also a sailor but have done most of my sailing up and down the CA Coast. I am certified offshore but have always been too busy to take the plunge. So now I live vicariously through your adventures and those of others as well. You might want to follow Sailing Magic Carpet.with Maya and Aladino. In any case I enjoy you both. Wishing you "fair winds and following seas" and a convenient West Sail Chanddlery. John K

    some baking soda paste (water mixed lightly into a cup of baking soda) smeared on the fiber glass stain and let it soak for an hour, then wipe off with water and towel. The longer the soak, the cleaner it gets. Tip, hot water, white vinegar, and a tablespoon of salt soak for glass ware (and coffee decanters,....) will make the glass new again.

    Great job, love the video's! Just a suggestion though... on the wood that was cut out for the water maker install, seal the ends of the cut edges with some epoxy since you have it out. Also, it's a bit overkill but, instead of screwing into the wood, you could drill out the holes in the wood where the screws are for the added supports and fill them completely with "peanut butter" resin then once cured, drill/tap or drill through the resin and use a nut/bolt for reassembly of the supports. That will assure that you will not have any moisture intrusion in the wood and it will make things much easier to do any maintenance in the future.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the tips! I'll try to seal those edges with epoxy as you suggested.

  • @NicholasMace-z9j

    Suggestion: plumb so that your water maker feeds only into a "drinking water" tank. Then use the overflow from the drinking tank to feed the "other water" tank via a one-way valve. Only the "other water" tank should be fillable from the shore. Benefit is that the drinking water is always replenished first and never gets stale. Install a drinking water faucet at the galley fed only from the drinking tank. We are happy to take shore or even river water into our other tank for dishes (rinse using drinking water) , laundry and showers provided it is not too suspect. For drinking, cooking, teeth brushing etc we only use drinking tank water. This is our setup and we have never had stomach bugs in 20 years of cruising.

    I have been enjoying your films since you started, You both are so impressive in so many ways. Hopefully we will share an anchorage one day.
    You may already know this, but a few considerations for the watermaker intake:
    Place the seawater intake thru hull as far below the waterline as possible to allow you to make water underway on either tack. Un-porting the intake would allow air into the system, which is hard on the pump and the membrane.
    Also petroleum is deadly to the membrane, but is lighter than water, so the deeper the intake, the less likely contamination. The down side is the lower the seacock, the harder it is to reach.
    Cheers,
    Mike, SV Kismet.

    It is fine running the watermaker off the inverter, as you explained. It is important to have a back-up inverter however. If the inverter fails halfway across the pacific, the water supply is gone! Your main inverter is a pure sine wave unit (expensive). The back up unit does not have to be such an expensive unit.

    Love the channel. I used to use goggles + 1/2 face respirators. Now I've switched to full face mask respirators, SO good. They never fog up, and nothing ever gets in your eyes, ever. Also, the weight is better balanced and attached to your head, and the seal against dusty air is pretty much perfect. They aren't expensive and even if they were it'd be worth it. It's been a game changer as far as my not minding tackling dusty cutting and sanding work, even when the dust comes from overhead. Sorry for my excitement over a mask, but maybe it helps some person using a sander.

It''s quite infectious and never fails to impress...I was thinking about the cuts you made in the bilge frame, and the bracing fitted to the sides to reconnect the frame...It should be fine, but a brace on the underside of each cut is where you will gain the strongest support...Might be less squeaky over time too...Obviously you will have to use hand tools because a drill wouldn't fit, but its still very do-able...Keep up the fantastic content and enjoy your amazing adventures...Peace and Best Wishes always!

    Honestly, since I've started watching these videos, I've become a total geek about blue water sailboats.
    The Colvic Victor is really interesting - it's one of the few with a nice high up pilot room superstructure, and then down underneath to the saloon.
    This creates so much more interior space and a high good viewpoint from inside.
    Seen so many other yachts that are low slung in the water, and while you can see forwards from the cockpit better, that seems to me like a daytripper issue, not an ocean going yacht issue. e.g. Benneteau, Ovni etc....
    I do think the Colvic design is really nice as a liveable design, and by expanding up creates more living volume.
    Shame Colvic ceased.

      The problem with a high superstructure is windage, i.e. something that is like a very bad sail.
      A sailboat with less windage can sail sail closer to the wind than a boat of the same design with more windage. For that reason you won't find racing boats with a lot of windage. Going close to the wind is very important for racing boats.

      Makes sense. Guess it's always a trade off.
      Performance vs. comfort and/or (say) north atlantic safety.
      e.g. I like the look of Nauticat from current makers, but they claim to be heavy, low performance and sturdy. Not fast !

    The water intake for the watermaker should be as much as possible near the middle of the bottom of the boat, that you don't get everytime ais in the system when you use it when you are sailing.
    Where do you get the230V from?

    It was driving me crazy--who did Becca remind me of? It was like she was a familiar old friend from my time in London. Then it came to me: actress Lily James. Sadly (for me) I am not an old friend of Lily James, but I am happy my brain sorted that out before it drove me mad.

    Awesome!!!! Crossing the pacific with out a water maker would be a crazy thing to do in my opinion. Sure is something to be said about having the means to take a fresh water shower every couple days. Salt water baths are better than stinking but that salt in the hair and on the skin tends to start itching after a few days.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great channel guys.
    Just a snippet of info: you may be making 'pure water', but if this water is going to your water storage tanks and not to an independent/isolated take off to store separately for drinking, please consider your tank hygiene.
    Typically it is good to 'super chlorinate' your tanks and plumbing annually. You should be able to google this technique/procedure.
    Bugs and ecoli can also infect your water system just by cleaning a faucet with an unhygienic cloth.
    Most mega yachts have a bleach injections system to continually drop chlorine or other similar suitable bacteria killing products into your system. Remember your water tanks are usually part of your hull and the water is therefore at a similar temp to the sea water on the other side!.
    If in doubt, of course boil your water.
    I was really sick in Antigua from badly stored water maker water in our tanks, The water maker plumbing had bypassed the bleach injection system!
    - Just started watching your channel, but very impressed!

    Great episode. What about a one way valve on the product water prior to that plastic union you drilled into? if you add water through the deck fill you could get that water back flowing into the product tube. Not sure if that is a siphon problem as well but worth mentioning.

    Generators and watermakers account for 75% of the maintenance on board. I think you will find that unit too large. You need to run it frequently for best reliability. Next step is to use fresh water to flush the loo, which takes out another source of breakdowns.

    Salt water intake needs to be as far as posible away from head outlets and sink.
    Rock steady at ten knots ..that will be a multihull same in a swell at anchor .👍🏼

    That was a well thought out install👍 couple of tricks for a future job like that is if you mount the bracket to join back together that support piece before you cut it then all the holes will make it lineup correctly when you reinstall.
    I don’t see why you couldn’t put a Y valve on the water intake and just select the water maker feed hose when you run it.
    Cheers, Warren
