Alan Arkin was such a sweet man. During the scene with Abigail where she cries in the hotel room, he immediately yelled cut concerned about her, until she explained that she was acting, which cracked him up. He made certain that during the scene in the van where he used the colorful language, that Abigail's headphones were turned up so she couldn't hear and would check before each take. At the world premiere, he asked her mother to take her out of the theater at that scene as well.
Even though Paul Dano(Dwayne) hardly had any dialogue throughout most of the movie, the body language and facial expressions were over the top! His acting was brilliant!
This film was my introduction to Paul Dano and he is in my top 5 actors, gosh I adore him. Every scene he was in was my favorite. Running out of the van, the pier scene! Just phenomenal!
The young actress playing Olive, Abigail Breslin, was nominated for the Oscar/Academy Award for Actrees in a Supporting Role for the film - one the of the youngest nominees ever. The actor playing the grandpa, won the Oscar/Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role. It also won Best Original Screenplay.
I waited tables in Santa Fe, Alan Arkin the grandpa was a semi-regular and not only tipped well, but if I got done with my shift while he was there he’d order me to sit down and eat with him. Only ever wanted to know about me and never talked about himself. He was a great person
No way! I cant imagine how that must have made you feel. He must have said something memorable about himself or his life at some point, though. Anything come to mind?
That is the best thing I heard today. You are so blessed, I'd love to have a meal and real conversation with Alan. He is one of my favorite actors. So cool that he really only wanted to hear about you.
@@Jalynfein he joked about Robert Redford who also lived in the area but seriously, we talked mostly about me being in school and being new to the area. And he really loved sriracha
One of my favorite movies of all-time! Thank you for sharing your reaction! Fun trivia: Abigail Breslin (Olive) really was listening to music during the “f*** a lot of women” scene so that she wouldn’t hear what Alan Arkin (Grandpa) was saying. She had great memories working with him, while filming the motel scene he got so worried when she was crying that he stopped the scene and called for her mother only for her to break character and assure him that she was only acting 😊 The movie was cast and filmed several years before its release. Steve Carell wasn’t a big name at the time and they initially wanted to cast Bill Murray or Robin Williams as Frank but in the end they went with Carell, who went on to become a HUGE star in 2005, a year before Little Miss Sunshine was released, with the successes of The Office and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. You probably recognized Bryan Cranston (Stan Grossman) from Breaking Bad but I don’t know if you recognized another Breaking Bad actor; Dean Norris, who played the cop that pulled them over and got distracted by the dirty magazines, played Hank the brother-in-law on Breaking Bad!
This movie reminds me of the lyrics from an old Dean Martin song - "I don't know why I love you like I do; I don't know why, I just do." I can't put into words why this movie works for me - it just does. To read the plot description would lead one to believe this might be a pleasant and diverting but forgettable little independent movie. But through the miracle of perfect casting, great direction and a screenplay that is funny and moving without being overly obvious, this film works splendidly. And I fall more in love every time I watch it. Sometimes you don't need a movie to be more than what it is - I don't feel this has any underlying deep meaning.
Life is a clapped out VW, with everything slowly breaking and going wrong, it could stall at any moment ending the journey... but as long as everyone inside gets out on occasion to give it a push when needed... it'll keep on going, and get them where it needs too.
I remember watching this movie when I was super young and honestly really enjoyed it, haven’t seen it in awhile, was so fun rewatching it with you lovely ladies!!❤❤
Such a good movie. It was heartwarming without being "syrupy". I think it felt more real because the characters were all so imperfect. (Except for Olive, you have to admit.)
I love this movie, your reaction was great. PLEASE watch these 2 movies, "me before you"...a great romantic comedy, love story that will blow your mind, AND "hereditary"...a horror movie thats one of my top 10 favorite movies. THANKS!!, Love all you ladies of the homies!!
Nice channel and very good reactions.. Here are some movie suggestions for you that I know are great movies The Deep (1977) Close Encounters of The Third Kind (1977) The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother (1975) Young Frankenstein (1974)
@@wheelz8240 I thought it was just me I have been trying everything I can to subscribe to their twitch channel and twitch is saying it doesn’t exist I hope Michell and elle fix it 🥺😢😭
I have noticed that you guys have yourself as the main screen. While others I watch have the movie in the main screen and themselves in the small box. Is that a copyright thing or arrogance?
It’s funny every girl says they love Volkswagen vans but if you picked her up on a first date in that thing, I think she would feel a little different. They will say they would like it, but they wouldn’t because they couldn’t impress their friends.

Abigail is GOD, bro! This girl shows it all!!! FEW child actresses and even adults can hold a candle to her.

Hey, thanks! I was just about to comment "Wasn't Bresliin nominated for best actress?", because I wasn't sure. I am so glad you showed up! :D

I thought the cop looked vaguely familiar but I just could not place him! Thanks!
This is what you call a family drama that taps into the meaning of family through its dramatic scenes
You ladies are the best both seem sincerely nice with great sense of humor. Your reactions never disappoint. Thank You

Olive is the heart of this movie. She's who brings and keeps the family together.
RIP Alan Arkin, one of the best. I always remember his nasty villain in WAIT UNTIL DARK

I knew you guys would properly appreciate this family. Thank you for the reaction.
lmao I was sure Ellie was about to say something else at 27:13 😅
⭐️ The VW van won best supporting actor at the OsCar's 🏆
Jonathan Dayton and Valarie Ferris, (who directed the Californiacation video), really went all out with the direction in this movie

22:18 That's an oil pump in the background, for those who wonder what they look like. Liquid gold.

What a movie! I have been waiting so long for you to see it! It's always good to "see" movies with you!
"Are you gettin' any? You should be getting that young stuff!"
Alan Arkin is one of the all-time greats.
I love this. Great reaction. Grandpa cracked me up.
Its not only a very beautiful movie, the soundtrack how it ends by Devotchka is also really great. You should listen to it ;)
Gotta watch Sideways with Paul Giamatti.
A functional family made up of dysfunctional people is the best summary of this movie I’ve seen

The bandanna really suits Ellie. She’s pulling off the 70s trend.
Love this movie.
Another two recommendations are Big Fish and Second Hand Lions.

Heeeeey Michelle 👋🏿👁️❤️
23:50 Notice Dwayne (Paul Dano) curled up on the ground with the sky above him. Symbolising he's grounded, can't fly. Very clever.
Your best reaction.

Am I the only one who finds these pageants creepy? Just curious. . .
So funny seeing Walter white and hank Schrader in this
And the family is from Albuquerque 🤯
"thats so cool"... really?... whats cool about a kid doing a strip dance? 😂
I don’t believe Alan Arkin deserved an Oscar for this role; apparently this was a “career achievement reward “ Oscar
