I know this is 4 yrs ago i did this repair on my Mini the Manual says that the thermostat for a Mini the small hole in the flange goes to the top so that air can bleed out. I hope all your work went well and driving it is more fun. I am a subscriber also,
I used a 3/4 ratchet breaker bar to pull the tensioner up. Then you can use a small tent steak to lock it in the small hole: great Vid. I have a leak but can’t find it. Also to get the alternator off it’s a bit tricky but you don’t need to take the front end off to get it. Just use 1/4 extender. With a 1/4 elbow to get the bottom bottom bolt off. The top two bolts can come off with an extension through the front.
Sometimes the pump will have an air lock. You can pull the hose and fill using the hose to make sure the impeller is not spinning in air. Also is your stat installed correctly. Make sure the metal cylinder on the stat is toward the engine block.
Hi man bummer when that happens I always dump water for a flush from bottom pipe then introduce water back up at the top hose on the radiator so I get it filled. then I use main filler to introduce new mix and start to get it pouring out of the top pipe near bleed screw. once thats flowing through I join hose then start the car engine and it starts to pump water around block and you just keep introducing water until the main filler just doesnt drop any juice. Once thats all hunky dory I just use top bleed screw to make sure water exits and then tighten. if all is working fine from that point it should be ok.
It will be the power steering fan underneath the car its run off the same circuit as the radiator fan when it seizes up it does not work ... been there done same as you then found out about this little fan under the car
the only thing i can suggest is to take off the existing thermostat and test it with hot water and replace it in any case. It could be a faulty one and cold upper and low mainfolds let think the problem is there.
You have to burp the system. There are three points you have to open and close with a flat head screw driver to bleed all the are out. I have done a motor swap on a r50 with the cvt transmission..
Yes I did.. but if you can be a bit more specific I can try to recommend something. Have you lost coolant right after refilling post water pump swap? If you're losing coolant under normal conditions (over time while driving) and show for no leaks you could be burning coolant and that could be a head gasket possibly. Really hard to say without more info tho.
Make sure you've got all the air bled out of the system.. it can be a very annoying process. It took me a few days and attempts before I was successful.
I'm in the middle of a coolant and thermostat change some serious air locking at the moment did you try the 2nd bleeder screw ? Just behind and under the filler cap ?
10 minutes of talking.... all to get to see random ass stuff bro, I just wanted to find out the coolant system on the mini and you went left field thanks...

I feel your pain, it's about then when I start smashing the fenders with a 5 pounder.

After replacing all that stuff and bleeding the system if it's still overheating look into a blockage in your heater core

Thermostat in the wrong way? For some reason if you pull up the right hand corner blead pipe slightly it gets the air out without losing coolant
Thank you for your “special tool” info, help me a lot 👍🏻
Did you solve? I still lost coolant and I don't know where

What was the video you watched to do this?
My 2005 mini is running hot and I just installed a new radiator.

Hi there. Can you please tell me what the component is under the water pump that has a black connector with one red wire
It's the air conditioner compressor
Great vid mate. Your car looks just the ticket your rims are well nice
You're so RAD man
This particular engine is a nightmare
So far.. knock on dashboard.. this w10 has been pretty good. And that's with the CVT.
I can’t imagine doing this.
