I was on the same room as you and immediately knew I was done ☠️
“You took *everything* away from me”
“I don’t even know who you are “
Just got this in my recommended section. This was very clean. I really like your tone and articulation. Hearing classical tenor is always a treat since alto is the most common saxophone that one would hear when listening to classical saxophone. Good job 👍
the octaves are so clean 🔥
These videos make me so happy that i only have to deal with the Tennessee TMEA. Which is probably the equivalent of middle school all state for Texas lol. I could never. Congrats man!
As far as I know, Texas doesn't have "all-state" for MS, just all-region. You can compete at the high school level and play in the high school all-region band, but you can't advance to all-state or even area (area doesn't have a performing band, you just compete for all-state). At least that's how it was in 2020
@@jamesbanks5597i think this person was more just making the comparison of tennessee all state and texas all state in terms of difficulty would be similar to that of middle school level playing in texas. hope this helps!
As somebody that has attempted to audition for middle school all region band in Texas, I can admit that it’s pretty hard to make it. Not to brag about my region in particular, but kids my region sounded like they’ve been playing for more than 3 years, even though some of them have been playing for 2 or 3. At the time I auditioned for all region band, which was November 2023, I was just coming out of beginner band the previous year, and was decent enough to get an opportunity to audition, but that’s besides the point. I got past phase 1 with no problem, but when phase 2 came around, I did worse than before, mainly due to the fact that there were players that have been playing longer than me and it made me nervous. But yeah even though it’s kind of irrelevant to what the conversation is about, I still feel like it was necessary to share this with y’all. Good day/night everyone!
That sounds great dude! 100% deserved your spot :) I was in the 6A symphonic band last year but I fumbled my audition and got concert this year lol
Good job! Those 2-octave jumps are killer.
lil bro played my warm up💀💀( im a trombonist and have never picked up a saxophone in my life)
We could’ve been a little bit more humble on the title but you definitely earned that spot. You have a very clear idea of what you’re doing with the piece and you sound like you’re very maturely approaching the style.
Nah he earned that shit, let the kid have his moment. He was using statistics to back up his claim, so it's not comletely a brag. More of just stating what others have already said.
title was *satire* - he even pinned a comment saying it was.... for people like you who can't take a joke :D
Keep up the amazing work!
when I changed high schools, I went from marching band/classical to jazz band. with that I also learned all the music theory involved with that kind of stuff, and since then I have played arguably easier music. I like what I’m doing now, but if I had to play that I would lose my mind. Hats off to you man.
Your playing on this etude is definitely a cut above what most people can do, especially on tenor. Articulation, the octave jumps, consistent speed throughout… everything was very clean, great job! I got first chair all-state with this same etude way back in 2015. That said, my band director used to always remind me, “no matter how good you think you are, there’s always someone better than you. Don’t get the big head.” I’d like to humbly pass that along to you 😅
Your playing is great though. Love your sound!
Thank you! I will say though, the video is satire haha. There are definitely better players than me.
@@Chrisssysax fair enough 😂 Don’t stop playing! (And obviously the title works-the views speak to that!)
I blew my AZ regional audition, so hearing high level tenor playing is wonderful
Very, very well done! Flutist here. I remember being in high school going to “Area” auditions time and time again. I was never a good player, but I give props to those that excelled! 🙌 I’m studying music now, haha. Going into my master’s degree… I still probably wouldn’t pass area auditions 😂😂… Texas musicians are crazy good! 🎉 Congratulations!
I never made all state. And am in a top 5 music school in the USA (Indiana University Bloomington). It’s so random who does and doesn’t make it.
Very good, it would take me over a month just to get the notes and articulations, but you've got dynamics, clean tone, as well as clear articulation. Impressive, especially for a high school student!
Fantastic job
Texans do music differently i swear- this stuff looks crazy hard and you play it so well! and here i was feeling pretty good about my bari solo haha
Nice I made Allstate this year in my state! (ILMEA) Illinois Your rlly good!
Bro changed the title😭
remember your place among the people in this world; i would rather let the whole world betray me than betray one person.
Indiana had the same audition piece and I got 3rd best tenor, big congrats!
Thank god
1. Im not in Texas and
2. I will never have to deal with TMEA.
All-State is easier in Alabama.
Not the easiest but definitely easier.
I dont know Sax but that sounded really effing clean my guy.
@@Chrisssysax oh I finally for the first time as a senior made All State as a percussionist. I made district (region) since 7th grade but never made State. Finally this year I did.
But still not TMEA.
I made top band in Alabama and I play alto sax. I don’t sound nearly this good 😬
How does it sound so smooth😭😭😭
holy shit bro is fuckin cracked ong
Yeah man that’s clean!
DAMN I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY LIKE THIS
Congrats! I find this to be one of the most cumbersome etudes in there but that was clean!!
Had 2 ppl in my orchestra make all state! 6th chair cellist and 8th chair first violin i thin
Hey I got a quick question! I also player tenor with a v12 3, currently on selmer concept. I'm notcing 3s feel too soft when it comes to getting a dark, fluffy sound on tenor. Would it be fine to go to 3.5?
@@antinerfer11roblox31 yes of course. Especially if you were a younger player, your embouchure is developing overtime. Which means that you will have to up your reed size eventually.
I wish I had my all state audition for NMEA Allstate 2022. I could have done this but either way French horn and in Nebraska
This is the ATSSB fast piece for this year and I’m definitely just going to copy and paste this lmao
@@Idk-_-Ki made first in 4a on bari at state, but i play tenor primarily, don’t know which i’ll go on next year
smooooth tone. how much do you practice every day? and do you do long tones a lot?
I practice roughly 2 hours a day but I don’t practice if I don’t feel like it. Honestly I don’t do long tones that much. I do tons of overtones tho. I do scales going up as half notes overtones.
@@Chrisssysax Oh I love overtones so much. Thanks for the reply :) I play tenor and am planning on going into music. I probably play closer to one hour a day and then play extra long on one of the weekend days (like up to 5 hours just cuz I feel like it lol. Only about 3 of those are productive though). Best of luck to ya
The jumps in these etudes are so evil lmao
Sounds lit bro
I’ll see you tonight!
upload the recording please bro @@zackleblanc6268 🙏 I was 1st in 4a im tryna see what 6a sound like
I play tenor saxophone too but I don’t play crazy notes like that yet
I got humbled real fast
I’m top 5 in atssb doing chair test on Wednesday so I’ll be at the convention, my name is Aaron Rivera
idk whats the deal with this alto supremacist im seeing in the comments but good work big dawg ur crazy 🔥
I would normally say “don’t get cocky” but it’s clear you’re him so…🙇🏻♂️
Absolutely gorgeous
Amazing performance! Congrats on 1st Chair btw!
what is your setup? im thinking about upgrading, right now i play on a C* with Vandoren V12 reeds and a francois louis ultimate ligature. Im gonna upgrade my sax (YTS-475) before i graduate but im not in a rush for that right now as he plays pretty well. Thanks!
I play on the same setup as you except I use a rovner ligature. I’m seriously considering a selmer concept though. I really like the sound they give me. Also, the vandoren TP4 is really good!
san antonio represent!
daniel kim diffs
This isnt Ayden Garcias
Sounds great! Being first in the state doesn’t make you the best player in the state.
dude, wtf how are you so good? you definitely deserve the spot!
What if the 5A person is actually stronger than the 6A person? They don’t directly compete. 🤔
@@Chrisssysax, in all seriousness, congratulations! That is indeed a huge feat.
@@AcevedoDMA thanks man. Assuming your the 5A guy cuz of your pfp congrats to you too!
@@Chrisssysax, I am an adult. I judge the auditions. I do know of the person who made first for 5A though as he lives nearby as studied with one of my colleagues.
Uhm… how? I’ve only been playing tenor for like 3 years and STILL DONT KNOW HOW TO PLAY REMOTELY LIKE THAT. (😭 i feel like I suck rn lol)
@@Chrisssysax do you have any tricks or methods you've used that you could recommend to me? I have a newer band director who doesn't really know a lot about saxophones so I'm kinda stuck to learning by myself.
@@iisleepydreams241 definitely learn the basics I.e scales, overtones, long tones, arpeggios yk all that stuff. Also if you can get a lesson teacher. They help SO MUCH!!!
@@Chrisssysax long tones? What's that? And also how do you play high+fast without squeaking? (also just fast in general)
@@iisleepydreams241 do know Remington descending? That’s a version of long tones. If you learn your arpeggios, you can play them as whole notes at 60 bpm. Also overtones are where you finger a low Bb but voice a middle b flat, middle f or high Bb and so on in the overtone series. Look it up and you’ll find some excersises for sure.
How do you develop your tone? Who do you listen to? How do you work on articulation?
I do a lot of overtones. For articulation, I do full range scales with varying articulation patterns I.e slur 2 tongue 2, tongue 1 slur 2 etc.
@@ryanstabler7680 Josue Mora. If you’d like to take a lesson with him, his email is @jmwoodwinds@gmail.com. He’s a fantastic teacher and person.
I wanna play tenor but I’m stuck on alto 😞
Nice! Do you use a selmer concept? I use a TL3 with a YTS-62, thoughts on that setup?
On an s80? And your tone sounds that smooth, that is impressive!!! I'm working on getting my middle register to be smoother, got any tips? I'd like to get it to sound really close to yours. @@Chrisssysax
@@antinerfer11roblox31 tones of overtones and long tones. Octave slurs help a ton as well.

Holy guacamole 😲😲😲
Am i trippin or is this not one of the ferling etudes? Regardless, great playing
Maybe Ill see you at TMEA convention (you have no idea who i am)
Ok but try doing that on baritone sax 😭😭😭😭
Hey I know this guy
I should’ve gone slower in my audition 😭
what school do you go to?
Instagram is @chrissy.sax
this guy definitely hasn’t met daniel kim
I mean the TMEA process says so. Daniel Kim is crazy good tho. Just let me be happy cuz this is the first and potentially last time Churchill will ever beat Hebron at anything.
@@rmekikibro as a clarinet player who lives no where near texas who tf is daniel kim 💀i be mad confused by these comments
im in middle school, this is hard?
Ive played this piece on Alto and tenor for competitions and have made 1st many times
nicee
these comments are so hilarious "humble yourself!!11!!!"
also whats the difference between the all state bands? Like the Concert Symphonic 5a etc.
The difference is school size. For example my school has a lot of kids so I’m 6A (the biggest classification) as opposed to the 5A band so the has smaller schools.
@@Chrisssysaxok thank you! Also one of the tenor saxes in my school is actually Konstantin Sinyak, who was second chair.

imagine being this good and feeling the need to flout it like an insecure child. this guy needs to be humbled somehow
@@Chrisssysax sure hope so, for your sake. still makes you seem like a dick tbh
i knew this spoiled kid who made third chair all state on clarinet and he acted the same as this guy. he quit music school after 3 years

i made all state for bari sax in 7th and 8th grade but im no where near as good as you☠
I reckon it would be pretty easy to be the best classical tenor saxophonist in Texas when there are only like 5 classical tenor saxophonists worldwide 💀
@@Chrisssysax I am ideologically opposed to playing tenor saxophone. Alto is superior in every regard: sounds better and has more repertoire. It is no coincidence that professional classical saxophonists primarily play alto sax.
@@Chrisssysax As a college student halfway across the country, I do not think that is possible. Impossible Challenge: Without using Google, name 15 pieces of the classical repertoire for tenor saxophone (transcriptions of pieces for other instruments do not count)
Ive heard better and faster
“I’ve heard better and faster” your comment is a joke, even if someone was more skilled than him, they would need to be equally skilled in the audition process because that’s what matters buddy.
Very cringe to post something with that title. How disrespectful to others. You are not “the best,” you just came first in that audition. Big difference.
i hate tmea and all region when it comes to college they do not care about it
I understand hating the process…all state definitely looks good on college apps though.
