  • In Scottish History Day Out: Inverness from Edinburgh on The Jacobite Road Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey tells Tales from Scotlands History and gives some tips for a history road trip to the Highlands with some Jacobite clan tales. Let's go on a Scottish history tour!

    Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
    As one of Scotland history tour guides people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So from April 2020 I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

    Lord Cumberland stayed the night at my family's Castle (Glamis) en route to Inverness (Culloden Moor). As we had lost one of our finest young men at Sheriffmuir in The '15 and we remained Jacobite when the army and Lord Cumberland moved on the bed he slept in was carried outside and burned.

    Having travelled the route from Stirling to Nairn, via Inverness, on hundreds of occasions since the early 60's. I was fascinated to hear of the Rout of Moy. On my next trip north, I will be looking for pinecones and fat squirrels. Another superb video Bruce. Thanks again Steve 😁❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Ciamar a that sibh, a Bhuis! Ok, that is all that Gaelic I'm adding here. My wife and I had planned a road trip to Scotland for last May 😲. We still plan to come visit, explaining the Gaelic (yes, I know there are no monglot Gaels, and only 1% of the population have the Gàidhlig). It was nice to see that I had mapped almost exactly the same road from Edinburgh to Inverness you talk about here. We had a side trip to Aberfeldy.

I learned the pipes as a teen (not usual for a girl- according to the old Scot who taught me 😉) I've been an avid Highland Games goer all my life and my house is filled with pictures, books and trinkets from Scotland that either my grandparents brought or was sent from family, over the years. Sadly the place has little concept of its heritage despite having many Scots names.

    Some very good ideas for places to vsit. Love Dunkeld myself and does the Killiekrankie Visitor Centre still have that diorama of the battle? (It was nearly 40 years ago when I was last there...)

    Another great, entertaining history lesson. Thanks Bruce. BTW, I vaguely remember a poem, something about seven men in Moy Castle. Is that the same place as the Rout of Moy, do you know? (I know there's a Moy Castle on Mull, but the rout story sounds familiar from somewhere.

    Old story of the rout of Moy....a wounded English soldier crawled out of the battle smoke and mist and called out to his colonel, the commander of 1500 English troops, and shouted hoarsely "Sir! Beware! It's a trap! There's two of them!!!".

    Ack! That's my clan's museum! I was there in the summer of '99 while on a family reunion trip. My grandfather, Frank Duncanson, was born in Elgin. So every three years we'd all meet up somewhere. in 1999, we began in Oban, where our cousins own a hotel, and then caravaned through the highlands. It was amazing. (Not the point of the video, sorry.)

    • @ScotlandHistoryTours
      @ScotlandHistoryTours  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Skye will need way more than one video. I have some topics I want to cover up there, but it would takd overnight stays and all that stuff. I'm hoping that I will get enough
      support through Patreon and Buy Me a Coffee so that I can make this a job, rather than a hobby. It's unlikely I'll travel as far afield as Skye before that though. Incidentally there are three ways you can support the channel (one of which is at no cost to you). Find out the details at www.scotlandhistorytours.co.uk/support

    I must admit as an Englishwoman I shall never be able to understand the Scots point of view. You make the Jacobite Road sound so exciting. But I just find it unendingly sad how kings, queens and religion have led legions of poor men to their ruin and death, and the lord only knows what happened to the families they left behind.

    I understand the part at the end about hoping we have a great day , (Mòran taing ! Thusa cuideachd ), but what does the "Dry right Now" part refer to?
    In my many trips to Scotland, I was often subject to the horizontal rain that could find its way through even the best bound clothing. Does it have something to do with that? Or is there a darker historical meaning? 🤔
