    I remember helping my father at pretty early age...passing him tools while he worked on his motorcycles. Keep up the great work Carson! You're going to be the envy of all your friends when you get your drivers license.

    Just get it back on the road for now, you can do a motor swap another time.You seem to have a lot on at the moment with the rest of projects.

    I have heard that pickups have double layer inner fenders. Explains the soft inside hard outside.

    Awesome project truck! Just picked up a Mk1 Caddy to work on with my son too..my son is a little older but still learning to wrench more and more. Thanks for posting your project updates, subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more progress vids. My vote is Motor swap now! lol

      What did happen with this project?

  • @dubCanuck1
    @dubCanuck1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My vote would be to get the rust taken care of and slap something in there to get it driving. Otherwise you may get bit by the "while I'm in here" bug. It only takes a handful of hours to pull the motor out for a swap, so it's not like it's a real huge undertaking. I've learned that one the hard way too many times. Didn't even get to enjoy the vehicle then embarked on a lengthy project and then lose focus or interest due to too many projects.

      Totally agree, and kind of what my original point supposed to be with it

    Good Morning,
    May I suggest relocating the battery? On my 1981 Pickup, I had an aluminum box fabbed up for me that is mounted under the bed. It is through-bolted to the back wall of the cab (below the bed) behind the driver's seat. I used the forward fuel tank strap stud as the chassis ground. I ran a heavy gauge (grommeted) positive cable through the back wall of the cab, to a power disconnect switch in the corner behind the driver's seat, then down the inside of the rocker panel and exiting out by the fuse box to go through the firewall to the starter, Power goes to the fuse box and alternator from the starter. The battery is a SIDE POST style that is big enough for the AHU TDI and can slide in and out of the box with ease. The power disconnect switch is one that was removed from the new Porsches at PDI. It has a red removable plastic key to turn the power on & off that is mounted in an aluminum box that shields the positive cables from being shorted to ground. This makes for a nice theft deterrent too. There is enough room for the exhaust to wind between the fuel tank and the battery box. The muffler has 1 inlet and 2 outlets so I can have dual exhaust tips that exit at the stock location just behind the rear tire but on both sides. This is better than straight out the back as the fumes exit out low at the sides and don't billow into the cab through the rear windows of the bed cap and cab rear window slider.
    Your channel is first-rate! Excellent content with high-quality delivery!
    Good Job!

    Well done, you have a good helper, I have a question, how did you take the machine out from below to put it back in again, will you put it in from below or from the back

    Damn, where do you keep finding these cars...LOL... I keep searching market constantly but all I see is complete rust buckets and Cabrios but as you mentioned they are not my cup of tea either. You guys are lucky on west coast to be able to find Mk1 s in somewhat descent shape, south-estern Ontario pretty much impossible, They turned to dust long ago. Keep up the incredible and no nonsense work.

      Honestly, i literally look everyday, no joke! I gotta be sharp on these things... But i don't doubt the Ontario rust, such a shame. Appreciate the support as always! Cheers

    Throw a Aba into it for now and build a 1.8t on the side till it’s ready. Aba caddy can be fun daily.

    Have you considered swapping a cabriolet front end onto the caddy?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jamesmelott9819

      @@MysteryGarage from what I’ve read you can cut off just before the firewall and weld back in the same portion from a cabriolet

      Streets paved now, but as you saw in my pastiest video, the “transition” is too steep but I just spoke with the city and that’s supposed to be fixed tomorrow! Can’t wait to finally get the car out! Cheers!
