Happy Birthday Jim!!!!! 🍦🧁 somebody please tell me that I’m not the only one who had a bad day and looked at that raw cake batter and went Do I really have to bake them or can I just dunk cookies and dig in? My late mom is positively having a fit right now. Mom it’s OK. Really. And you’ve had a day like the one I have raw cake batter could almost be considered health food, certainly healthier than the double martini. I wanted when I got home but didn’t have. 🤣🍸🍸 and I worked at Dairy Queen in high school I could never get the swirl right! You did great.
My mom made these for my birthday in the 70's...I'm taking care of her now and have been for many years. I think this will bring back a great memory for her. She was very proud of herself that day.
I was born in the 60’s. I can’t remember if it was the late 60’s or early 70’s but yes bless mom she did the same too. My mom is in a memory care facility I think it’s wonderful that you are able to take care of yours. Bless your heart ❤️
If you can bring her things, you should try your hand at these to see if it brings back that moment in time. I was going to make them for my birthday which is in 2 days, but My birthday is just another day since my baby brother was taken from us in 2012 just 2 days before my birthday. Her birthday is the 27th...so I will wait till then...she will be 85. Sorry to hear about your mom, I'm not looking forward to that day. We have our good days and we have our bad. @@daniellenear9443
We didn't have the cookbook; I don't even remember it or the commercial. But I remember being surprised and delighted one birthday when Mom served up birthday cake ice cream cones like this. She didn't tell me about it beforehand, so I was just expecting a regular cake. I think she had a candle in mine, or maybe in all of them, I don't remember that part. I do remember thinking her the cleverest mom ever!
Girl! I love your channel. You just took me back to the 70's....my childhood. My mom was famous for making these for our birthday parties! So nostalgic! Thank you!
What a nice surprise! Happy birthday Jim! Anna, I know what you mean about recipes you didn’t make in your childhood and wanting to make them now. In Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls from the ‘60s, there was a rectangular castle cake, using the pointed sugar cones covered with frosting for the turrets. I dreamed of making that as a child but never had an opportunity until I decided to fulfill that dream for my daughter’s 9th birthday. She & I had such a good time making it together.
Yes, have the video cookbook. Yes, have the BC's Boys and Girls book and always thought it was creepy. I dunno, the drawings are of the era but something about that particular book, shivver. Never made any of the recipes. Don't know why I still have it in the cabinet.
They turned out GREAT! I love how generous you were with the frosting. My mom would spread the frosting with a butter knife on a cone that was barely filled. We had sad snub nosed cones with minimal frosting and no sprinkles. You ROCK!
I think the ones I remember from my 1st grade class were also a little flat on the frosting. I really wanted these to look like ice cream cones since I waited 35+ years to fulfill my childhood dream of making them! 😂
Yum! They look just fine. And yes, the icing looks like DQ. I can't eat that much icing any more, but if I were under 40, I would gobble it up! Happy birthday, Jim!🎉
Omg! My mom made these for my birthday when I was in elementary school. She has since passed away. I totally forgot about those until this video. Thank you so much! ❤ I am going to try to make these for a Valentine's day treat with strawberry cake mix.
I was too old for the cookbook (1992 was the year I got married) but I definitely remember birthday cupcake cones! I think my mom and my aunt both made them for different birthdays for my siblings and cousins and I. The frosting was never that perfectly and generously piped, however. I love the way you did them, the frosting looks exactly like soft serve! Most kids would be thrilled to have a big old pile of frosting to lick!
I made these for multiple birthday parties for my 4 kids! They loved them! We did strawberry with strawberry frosting, chocolate with chocolate frosting, cookie dough cake with cream cheese frosting, oh, and sprinkle cake with white frosting and sprinkles on top! Oh the memories!
❤ SO nostalgic!!! My mom made these for me to take to school every year on my birthday! They were my favorite and now I'm going to have to make some just because! ❤
Oh gosh I made these for my kids soccer teams on my week for snacks. They were always such a big hit! Thanks for the memories 😊. I always over filled to make a dome on top and dyed different color frosting and made it look like a single scoop ice cream cone. Big hit with the kids but I could have dropped them and the kids would have liked them 😂
I made these "cone" cupcakes for a grandchilds birthday. They thought it was great! I have a collection of children cookbooks from my younger days, but they look well used.
I don’t remember the cook book but I do remember making these for my children, it was very popular . Moms in elementary school made these for celebrations in school.
Ha0y Birthday Jim !! Lol ong I remember the turtle piza!! When these cupcakes in the cone came out everyone had to have them at their next birthday party!!
OH this brings back memories. I worked in a local school system where I saw a student bring these in for their birthday treats. All I kept thinking was such a neat idea especially since there wouldn't be the mess of the cupcake wrappers (given to the right student you can have a disaster in the classroom). I convinced my oldest to let me make them to take to school. I had no idea how to make them but how hard can it be? Well......we ended up with a HUGE mess in the oven, all over the cones, and none of them were salvageable thanks to putting way too much batter in the cones. I ended up making a quick batch of brownies for him to take in instead. Well after that, whenever I would suggest that we do the cone cupcakes for birthday treat, my sons (all 4 of them) would say no! Never made them again.......
My mother would make these for my birthday to share with my class when I was in school and that was the 80s and these honestly were my favorite birthday treat.
I saved this recipes before I had children for the future. I did indeed make them for my girls. Might be time to make them for my grands! A great memory .
Guess what?! Your video really hit home with me today and brought back a lot of good memories! I have that cookbook sitting on my kitchen shelf. I made the green dragon's breath cake. But I made it as charizard from Pokemon for my grandson when he was young. He has 3 beautiful children now. So that tells you how long ago it was! That worked wonderfully! I also made the self decorating cake for the 4th of July and that was a great success! Just a tip… you need to do that one outside because it's kind of messy but such fun! I did the baked ice cream cones and as you know, they worked very well. I did a version of the upside down pineapple Christmas tree And it looked quite festive at Christmas! ( My daughter's friend used the top of a pineapple and put pringle chips on top of the leaves for lunch one day with our sandwiches and it was so cute.) I also did the great earthquake cake. And that was my favorite thing out of this book! Everybody was freaking out when he blew on the candles and it started cracking the cake down the middle LOL I enjoy your channel so much! I know it is a lot of work, making the food and editing the videos. But you are so appreciated! I would love to see you do the monster in the popcorn or the cookie car that actually runs! Thanks again and keep on cooking!
I graduated from high school in 1992...so I guess I'm vintage! 🤣 I definitely had these as my birthday cake somewhere around 1980...it was right up there with the rainbow jello poke cake as one of my childhood favorites (that poke cake now makes me wonder...how long were we eating jello after that birthday party???)!
As a young teen, a classmate had a birthday party. It was a by the old book birthday party, pin the tail on the donkey and all. She made those cupcake ice cream cones. I thought they were pretty good and a great idea for the party.
I remember making these, but I thought we put the batter in the cupcake pan and pushed an ice cream cone down into it. I remember having problems with the cones tipping over in the oven while baking so that was our solution. We may have also tried putting the batter in the cone then inverting it into the cupcake pan. I remember this was one of the messiest treats we ever made and that my mom finally said no more of this recipe. Lol it was like making a volcano except we put it in the oven, turned on the oven light and would sit and watch what chaos would unfold.
Childhood memories here! Those were so much fun to make back in the day. (the 70's) Mom either saw the idea in a women's magazine or on one of the daytime shows aimed at women such as Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas or the Dinah Shore show. Yours turned out really cute, Anna. Thank you for more fun cooking memories.
You’re on a loop on my tv now!!! It just keeps playing all of your videos non stop! I’m home today and just enjoy watching so much! You are lovely, recipes and books -nostalgic BUT the highlight of the videos are DOTTIE BREAKS!!! Love that sweet baby
Oh, we almost always had ice cream cone cupcakes for school birthday parties! They were considered less messy for kids to eat because you didn't have to peel any cupcake paper off, and get frosting all over your hands. This recipe is definitely older than the 1990s, since I grew up in the 1980s and had then all through my childhood.
I’ve done these for a couple of Girl Scout events. Best way to transport them is those flat shallow soda boxes- the ones that hold I think 24 cans and are the brown cardboard. Turn it upside down and cut an x the same diameter of the soda can. It will be the perfect size to jam a cone into. Usually decorating them is an activity but if you are pre decorating make sure you leave enough time for the icing to harden on the outside a little before you move them because they do like to lean. I usually find a #10 disher (scant 1/2 cup) to be the right size for these.
I love love love this channel! Like seriously! The humor, how real... thank you! You are legit the best! The vintage bowls and pans...really take me back to some special times with my grandma ❤

I remember these cupcake cones! They were so fun and yummy. I've been looking at vintage cookbooks and just cookbooks in general. You can get a used cookbook that originally cost $26.00 for $3.25 at my favorite bookstore. Vintage cookbooks cost even less. I got hooked from watching your channel. It's a wonderful trip down memory lane. Happy birthday, Jim!!🎂Thank you, Anna, for the amazing videos. 💗
My mom made these for my 5th birthday back in the 80s! Still remember loving the multicolor cake cones too. And that the cones used to have random names molded into them!! I never found one with my name on it...
It's a fun cookbook and worth showing. Many years ago I made a peanut butter, Karo syrup and powdered milk candy. One of the first things I cooked. My little brother was impressed. As I recall the way to transport is to cut holes in a box top and place cupcakes in the holes. Best to have the party at your house tho'.
This is such a blast from the past! 🍦 I remember eating those cupcake cones at special school events, and birthday parties. Oh wow!!! Always loved when kids brought these for school parties. My mom never did but we did make them at home once. I was JUST thinking of them the other day and thinking of making them with my daughter!! Also side note-my boyfriend (also a child of the 80’s) did not remember these! What?!?
I remember the HOLD these things had on my elementary school bake sales. I thought they were the coolest things in the world.
