Well done Mazzy , 2024 months were truly amazing, glad you had some spare time to spend in London central , also so glad you love the Bonzos , and that Box set looks a great find too ! ❤
Mazzy- I really enjoyed the Best of 2024 Boxed Sets. Well done! You inspired me to order the Numero New Drifters set. I have several of the Numero releases and all of them are really enjoyable. I don't know how they find some of this stuff and then produce it with such high standards. I was unaware of the Bonzo set, but being a fan going back to the early 70's, it is a must have for me; yet, its an investment that I will need to wait until after the Holiday bills are settled.
OMG Mazzy!!!! Having the Bonzo's at number 1 blew me away. You are so knowledgeable........so steeped you have this at No.1 with so many other great box sets of 2024. Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you 🙂
Hey Mazzy..Happy Holidays❤I still haven’t picked up that Dylan set..hoping I can find a steal of a deal on a set at some point..you showed some really interesting sets I need to consider buying..Thanks so much👍❤glen
As always, love these Best of 2024 videos. Some real gems in here. I immediately ordered both those Numero Group box sets - neither of them groups I know but quickly discovered this was music I totally vibed with. What a great label! (as you said). I also ordered the upcoming Her Space Holiday release - Home is Where You Hang Yourself. Been a fan since I discovered The Past Presents the Future. I highly recommend both albums, and especially that upcoming Numero vinyl release. That Faces set will also find its way to my doorstep soon.... Merry Xmas indeed! Hope to see you on our next Classical Bums livestream.
Thank you Mazzy for the best review channel on TH-cam. You really put the hours in to inform and explain. I remember rushing home from school in anticipation of 'Do Not Adjust Your Set'. All the best for the new year!
Great presentation, as usual. A few surprises here, including your number one choice. I just don't have the cash for all the box sets I'd like, and so it's nice to live vicariously here. Fantastic job and happy Hanukkah, Mazzy.
Nice - The Bonzos at the top of the dog pile where they’ve always belonged. These guys had it all - the outrageous Dada “umor” and diverse musical talents. This particular collection is (regrettably) is a bit beyond my financial oomph, but it looks terrific, and I have all their original albums. Should even be more famous!

Sure Mazzy :-) It made me smile anyway cos it took me back to a group of us sitting in a railway station, tripping on acid and laughing hysterically at all the spiders running to catch their trains! The innocence of youth is all I can say :-)
I have a nice little collection of Rod Stewart records including Small Faces and Faces, and yes, I thought the same as you about them really not being talked about at all even though they really should be. A member of the Orb is also part of KLF. Cool that you show Bonzo Dog Band. I found a record of theirs about 30 years ago and it's the only one I have. I need to pull that one out again.
Thank you Mazzy for a year of fantastic video's. I recently picked up a Bonzo's cd box set in a charity shop for a pound i think. Anyway thanks again, from here in the UK.
Interesting review. Whilst l don’t really buy vinyl anymore my boxset of the year gotta be Laura Nyro Here my song CD boxset absolutely beautiful box book and music…
Great video - I live in Liverpool and I used to watch the Bonzos on television in the 1960s - I still have all their original LPs and singles - the box set seems really great but it’s very expensive - Viv Stanshall was an amazing talent! By the way their biggest hit Urban Spaceman is not on their first LP Gorilla but on a later LP called Tadpoles - I see a similarity with them and Spike Jones - they made great recordings but they really come alive visually when they’re performed - it is worth seeking out some of their performances on TH-cam from Do Not Adjust Your Set - they are unique musical comedy masterpieces - All the best for Christmas and the New Year!
One shirt pocket buttoned, the other not. Fashion statement or wardrobe malfunction? I held off on the Faces live at the BBC but you may have convinced me here. I would have had the Beatles, Dylan, and Doors higher on my list. But these were the only box sets I purchased this year….. Happy Chanukah and have a good New Year.
Wattstax - The Complete Concert '72'. The Doors - Live In Detroit '70' Sepultura - Roots: The 25 Anniversary Edition. Good boxset collection of the year you got there Mate, Merry Christmas.
"And looking very relaxed, Adolph Hitler on vibes." I got The Bonzo box the day it was released. "Five years ago I was a four-stone apologee... Today I am two separate gorillas!" I would have crossed six oceans and a seal with a Shetland pony to get this.
The American Analog Set was for me who missed the band in its salad days, THE DISCOVERY of 2024. Hypnotic music. Love every of these vinyls. Ready for a slow amd melodic burner of the deepest kind? Go for it!
That American Analog Set box set is fantastic, but my favourite is How Ghosts Affect Relationships by His Name Is Alive. I actually ordered it by mistake as I thought it was Blonde Redhaed but so glad I did as it sold out immediately. Didn't really know anthing about them but up there with Cocteau Twins and Dead can Dance.
The Bonzos were great. We saw them at Brian Epstein's Saville Theatre supporting Cream who watched their act, creasing themselves from a box! Merry Xmas Mazzy!
We bought every lp and history of.. then cornology box! It’s awesome to hear that a real important archival box is out for people to enjoy!! And love the coolness and rule britania!!😵💫😘😉🤗✌️
Hands down, my favorite box set of 2024 is the 19 disc HEAR MY SONG from LAURA NYRO. Other great sets from 2024 were DAVID BOWIE Star, THE JONI MITCHELL ARCHIVES VOL. 4, FRANK ZAPPA Apostrophe, and KEVIN AYERS All This Crazy Gift of Time.
My favourite was Neil Young archives by a long way Snapshot in Time with Nicolette Larsen and Linda Ronstadt is beautiful and another standout was the SF Boarding House show. I'm curious to know if you were at those shows?
Seems like there is much more TLC going into anniversary & box sets than there's ever been before, despite physical media being a smallish market. Perhaps that's due to the people in charge at record co's (especially Warners & Cherry Red) having grown up with this music. I'm just unpacking the Rhino Joni Mitchell multichannel BD box set. (I know little of Joni & decided to explore her catalog.) I thought the discs were the early 4 channel recordings exclusively, but they also include stereo plus new surround mixes by Ken Caillat (of *Rumours* fame). The Dolby Atmos mixes play well on my 5.1 system & the packaging is exceptional, including embossed disc sleeves with *double* gatefolds for some of them.
Number one is truly number one! I got into the Urban Spaceman lp when it was released and found myself falling into the doughnut hole the rest of my life and that includes the solo lps. My friends thought I was bonkers but all their material just carries me through the whole catalog. Great choice for number one. 🖖🚀
I tried to order the Pour a Little Sugar on It box from Amazon, but they somehow never could get it in and they eventually cancelled my order. The Dylan box defined my November. That Orb set is insane. The Bonzos box looks stunning, but a bit rich for my blood. The book looks stunning.
My favorite box set of 2024 is David Bowie's "Rock "N' Roll Star!". Featuring "Ziggy Stardust" era recordings, including live tracks and outtakes. Plus, I give a special mention to Rory Gallagher's "The BBC Collection" box set. Which I only got, because I wasn't able to get the new Beatles US Albums box set, for the cheaper price that I wanted. But, the Rory Gallagher box set was a nice alternative. And it's now very hard to find for a reasonable price.
Graham Gouldman of 10cc was a staff writer for the Bubblegum producers Kasenetz-Katz for a while. I don’t know if any of his stuff made that collection, though. Mind Games is a beautiful box, but I hate the remixes.
The UK orig pressing is all I have needed. The deluxe box set or whatever they call it is ridiculous to me- over produced with photos I will look at once.
Where on earth did you find it?? Pre ordered this box from not one but TWO different places. One place cancelled the order 3 days ago because suddenly they couldn't get it from their distributor. The second place still hasn't shipped it.
Based on your enthusiastic review, I was all set to order a copy of the STILL BARKING box set -- at a great price too -- until I reminded myself of the need for due diligence before making a huge purchase like that. I looked up a number of reviews of the set, many of which contained markedly different opinions than yours. Specifically, the review at the TPA-THE PROGRESSIVE ASPECT website convinced me that this box set is not for me. The general consensus from the reviews I read is that this is not something you would play more than once...and that's assuming you could even get all the way through it once, which some of the reviewers were unable to do.
Thanks Mazzy for the review and your contributions to the vjnyl community. Regarding the Doors box set in comparison to the AP 45/s, however, I couldn’t disagree with you more. The AP’s are so clearly superior sonically to the 33/s contained in the Rhino box set.
I’m pretty sure The Bonzo’s, like The Python team, were inspired by ‘The Goon Show’, surreal radio madness from Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe from the 50’s and early 60’s. TH-cam and Spotify have lots of their stuff. Not sure if the humour travels that well across The Atlantic, but worth checking out.
For those of us that get it here in the states, get it. I loved watching British comedy on PBS back in the late 80s, early 90s. Monty Python not really, but Red Dwarf, Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, among others, were great. I love dry humor.
Well they may not bite buy they'll take a chunk out of your budget; I just looked up the price of that Bonzos box set.face-purple-wide-eyes Merry repurposed-northern-hemisphere-mid-winter-pagan-festival from Brisbane Australia where it currently is actually the 25th!
I am on the fence re. including single album deluxe edition reissues on a best of box sets overview. That being said, I found the Talking Heads "77" to be a fantastic/essential release as well as being expertly and lovingly curated (the book is ESSENTIAL reading especially Tina's part) and the music contained within represents substantial sonic superiority vs the regular releases especially those who are into hi-rez immersive/surround sound. RHINO continues to lead the way with their hi-rez immersive/quad/surround releases of classic albums be they deluxe box sets or individual albums (QUADIO) as well as their fantastic High Fidelity vinyl releases (box sets and individual albums). The two (2) sets that I would include on your list are Zappa's "apostrophe!" and the Dead's "Devils..." They are sonically, performance and packaging absolutely marvelous!
And that's the side of the fence that I tend to fall on as well. I have found that the record companies are doing a better job today than in the past in their ability to produce "box sets" that are well curated and present the music in a sonically superior manner (hi-rez, Atmos, immersive mixes) and for the vinyl fans, much better pressings.
Maz... I recently bought Neil Young's Harvest box set... At one time it was $75.00... But if you wait long enough, it drops down to $31.00... The set is not bad...
Of the box sets I was aware of, only The Doors was interesting to me. Although I have all the albums on original and or reissues that sound great like the DCC CD's. I have the studio recordings Faces, You Can Make Me Dance box set which sounds excellent. I don't need the live set. I don't know the Bonzo Dog stuff so..You have done some interesting videos this year Mazzy. The photography is always excellent.
Re: Bonzo Dog Band: "...Adolph Hitler, vibes." Hilarious. I'm so glad I sprang for that box set. I didn't let being unemployed get in the way because I knew I'd really regret not getting it when it sells out!
I bloody hate boxsets. Unless they are CDs. The two John Coltrane tours of the early 60s tours were great from a couple of years ago. So, was the Peel Slowly and See from the Velvets from way back but otherwise lots of the records are merely just shiny copies with little intrinsic value. Regarding Talking Heads being "nerds". The Oxford Dictionary defines a nerd being someone who is" extremely interested and knowledge about a particular interest especially one of a specialist or niche subject". Now,I dont know if Talking Heads[Im not really a fan] are avid record collectors.... but just saying.
Well Mazzy, Happy Christmas! Sort of stunned as to your Number 1 choice :-) Oh my God The Bonzo Dog Do Da Band? I mean….really? They were kinda cheesy, absurdly funny but not deserving of the accolade you give them…more like one of those acid trips where you think you’re hysterically funny, but really you aren’t :-) Almost any of your other pics way outshine Bonzo……but I guess I’m judging them from being there at the time in London and not with the hype of history and all that flim flam trying to give them a significance they never deserved at the time: I’m sure folk will not agree with me, mind you….but I do kind of have to be shocked by you putting those jokers over some really great bands you included in your list!
Good comment. First Let me say that the Bonzo Box is fantastic. Yes the best box set. If the year But as I said in my intro, the music in the case is not the only criteria. The Bonzos music is not better than the Beatles or Doors or even the Talking Heads or Elvis; but the overall collection containing their entire discography plus outtakes live records and a perfect hardboard book, make it the overall best. Totally subjective on my part. Historically minor? Who knows, but very creative and influential.
I will have to check some of these out. I wasn’t a fan of those Beatles mono. Sure it’s ok to have them on vinyl…but they are at best AM radio quality and why waste all the vinyl/oil on it? If I was a youngster and I listened to these records, gah. They are not a good impression of the Beatles. Tape warble on Hard Days Night…IGD etc. Better to get the OGs for about the same price. They should just do a darn stereo analog box with like Kevin Gray etc. Instead they get these crap masterings with all those Miles cuts. They do NOT sound good. Sure Miles is a super nice chap but anytime I see Miles in the dead wax I avoid. It’s some sort of pride thing…they need a British guy to master/cut the Beatles stuff. Is there any good English cutting/mastering Engineers anymore? This capitol mono set is not worth $300 IMHO spend that on The Doors Box. I feel like the Doors box should have beat the Beatles box simply because it sounds amazing and is a steal for the money. This is the way vinyl should be made these days. Happy Holidays Mazzy….here’s to 2025!
I wanted to get the Miles Davis Bootleg Series; but WHY is it so expensive? €80 for 6 discs when a year ago I got Live At The Lighthouse (Lee Morgan), 8 discs for €50. Beautiful packaging on that one too. Decent, thick card on the box and a good, thick booklet.
Well done Mazzy , 2024 months were truly amazing, glad you had some spare time to spend in London central , also so glad you love the Bonzos , and that Box set looks a great find too ! ❤

The two (2) sets that I would include on your list are Zappa's "apostrophe!" and the Dead's "Devils..." They are sonically, performance and packaging absolutely marvelous!
Multi disc sets are always box sets in my eyes ✌🏼
And that's the side of the fence that I tend to fall on as well. I have found that the record companies are doing a better job today than in the past in their ability to produce "box sets" that are well curated and present the music in a sonically superior manner (hi-rez, Atmos, immersive mixes) and for the vinyl fans, much better pressings.
Odd, didn't realise The American Analog Set was 30 years old. Time certainly doth fly.
Kept waiting for Jimi Hendrix - Electric Lady box. Check it out if you haven’t. Tremendous.
I e been told. Haven’t gotten it
Maz... I recently bought Neil Young's Harvest box set... At one time it was $75.00... But if you wait long enough, it drops down to $31.00... The set is not bad...
were can i get the bonzo box set. i want it
@@jorob46 in the USA trying ImportCD. That’s where I got it.
Interesting choices, interesting story!
Just my personal take 🌟
Love Bonzo Dog Band, looks like an expensive box set.
I just ordered the set…$317 total.
Not forgetting Roy Rogers on Trigger and the Count Basie Orchestra on triangle.
$500 Bonzo set!! I want it.
No that’s a very limited edition version . Mine was $275 or so via import CD.
@@mazzysmusic Hey thanks Mazzy!!
I am waiting for Still Barking, arrives Friday.
A lot to dive into. I riveted his Import CD have a fab Christmas
Faces Greatest live band this country has ever ever produced (England )
THANK YOU FOR PRESENTING THE BONZOS...WHAT A BAND! !
You are welcome ❄️
No ZZ Top?No Peter Frampton? Wow!!
Not in the twelve 🤷🏻♂️
Death Cab for 'The Cute One'...
You need to clip that “Mind Games” unboxing and add cheesy porn music from the 70s to it.
Oh yeah 🙄🤓🤣
No room for the Bowie box Mazzy?
@@juzzy4683 I don’t have it 🤷🏻♂️
No worries Mazzy. I've hesitated on the Faces set so far because of the repetition of songs. This wasn't an issue for you? I may have to re consider..
I have a feeling you are a very easy sell, Norman
This comment makes no sense 😵💫
@@mazzysmusic Norman , I wish you a Merry Christmas and the hope you get the chance to listen to all these records!
No ZZ TOP BOX SET? Hum.
Not in my top twelve 🙅🏻♂️
Well Mazzy, Happy Christmas!
Sort of stunned as to your Number 1 choice :-)
Oh my God The Bonzo Dog Do Da Band? I mean….really?
They were kinda cheesy, absurdly funny but not deserving of the accolade you give them…more like one of those acid trips where you think you’re hysterically funny, but really you aren’t :-)
Almost any of your other pics way outshine Bonzo……but I guess I’m judging them from being there at the time in London and not with the hype of history and all that flim flam trying to give them a significance they never deserved at the time: I’m sure folk will not agree with me, mind you….but I do kind of have to be shocked by you putting those jokers over some really great bands you included in your list!
Aloha Mazzy

Haloha & Shalom 🌟
Happy holidays. 💫
Sorry not Marie (spell check gone whacko)but Mazzie
Is that Mazzy on drums..?! 😂 th-cam.com/video/ag0rVNlvQQg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=D6uniAetWoJ2RZfa
Why do you always wear a hat indoors?
🙄😎🤠

I wanted to get the Miles Davis Bootleg Series; but WHY is it so expensive? €80 for 6 discs when a year ago I got Live At The Lighthouse (Lee Morgan), 8 discs for €50. Beautiful packaging on that one too. Decent, thick card on the box and a good, thick booklet.
I think they are pricey now because they are out of print 🤷🏻♂️
@@mazzysmusic Volume 8 just came out in November.
