FFT | HOW TO: Get Excalibur & Ragnarok in Chapter 2 from Gafgarion

- As the title (and the video) says, this will show you how to get Excalibur and Ragnarok (or other items depending on what you want to get) from Gafgarion in Chapter 2.

In the beginning of chapter 2 at the map where Gafgarion turns on you in Zirekile Falls you can get some of the deep dungeon weapons. What you have to do is get Gafgarion to level 99 and in a Ninja class. you only have two story maps to do this. For those of you who don't know about JP sharing i'll explain.
if you are lvl 99 and job level 8 GEOMANCER with support ability GAINED JP UP and use accumulate you'll get 72 JP points per use which means anyone one else on that map whether GUEST or PARTY MEMBER will get 12 JP for their GEOMANCER job without even being a GEOMANCER. so thats how you will be able to make Gafgarion a NINJA. to make him a ninja he will need to be a
lvl 2-SQUIRE
lvl 3-ARCHER
lvl 2-KNIGHT
lvl 3-MONK
lvl 2-GEOMANCER
lvl 4-THIEF
so on the first map you can have 4 party members the fastest way to do this is have everyone be lvl 99 and job lvl 8 for all these jobs have one be a SQUIRE one be a KNIGHT one be a MONK and the next be a GEOMANCER and have everyone spam accumulate with support ability GAINED JP UP
on the next map you can have 4 party members have 2 ARCHERS and 2 THIEFS have everyone spam accumulate with support ability GAINED JP UP
getting Gafgarion to ninja class is easy getting him to lvl 99 is the hard part theres a few ways to do this heres what i did
in ARUGUAY WOODS let the black goblin attack you continuously and have Ramza use yell on him until the goblin is lvl 99 and eventually Gafgarion will attack him and be level 99

the items that do the most damage are the only ones he will throw at you. The items on the far right do the most damage.

As a lifelong FFT fan..I loved this from beginning to end. This was how I spent countless afternoons as a kid. Experimenting with the game, and testing strategies.

The experimenting thing is good and all but, it loses it's purpose. Why get end game weapons to use against pretty weak storyline characters?

1. Train Gafgarion to lvl 96.
2. Make him a ninja
3. Have him throw an Excalibur at the Princess.

I doubt it, enemy levels are not persisted across battles. Random encounter enemy levels are calculated relative to player level, whereas story battle enemy levels are hardcoded.
I've no clue, my guess is that 'no', regular ninjas will throw regular weapons according to their level, and there probably is a switch on characters that goes "character unique, allow unique weapon throws". Nevertheless, extremely high level ninjas will throw some of the best weapons in the game, might be worth the effort to gar up real early.
***** My female generic knight commander of the generic army having two excalibur is enough lol! I just get like rarest swords as possible from generic ninjas... and I got my titmant three headed dragon, female monk, normal behemoth can use giga flare with beast master and my female archer best bow can shoot at a very far distance lol

you do know that killing delita doesn't initiate a game over right? and he can't turn into a spirit crystal because he's guest. that would have been easier than going through the hassle of reviving those knights over and over again.

Vivi23 Blue23 I'm guessing he simply won't throw the necessary weapons in that case. The weapons he throws change accordingly with his level. If he's lower than 96 and 97, he won't ever throw the Excalibur and Ragnarok.

In the same woods where you rescue that Chocobo, if you are lv.99 and fight the enemies there, sometimes a bunch of ninjas will appear. They are all lv.99, and they throw the most powerful weapons from the game, like Scorpion's Tail, Chaos Blade, Masamune, Javelin II, Defender, Ragnarok, Excalibur, Chirijiraden and etc. I discoreved this by chance tho.

I always felt that this game had endless re-play-ability because of shit like this. My all time favorite game, and I have to play it at least once every year or at least every other year, and I never even thought of trying this lol. Good job mate =D

I don't think it is a glitch, the idea is in fights where you need to save someone's life... when their HP hits zero the person who attacked them runs the blade through their corpse rather then worrying about other threats. A diced up body can't be raised.

Super awesome and very funny video! Don't listen to these haters on here about "you're lvl 99 and its cheesy and blah,blah!" I've beat this game numerous times over the years and am just now hearing about stat grinding and such. Goin to try it meself on my next play through. Kudos again homes!!
didn't see anyone mention this but there are two other areas in the game in chapter 4 you can get Excalibur, save the queen, defender and rag not sure of chaos blade as I never seen it thrown. anyway battle at grog hill against 12 monks sometimes one of the monks has throw command and on lv 80 to 99 they will throw those swords. the second map is yaguyu woods with the samurai encounter. sometimes they will have the throw command also lv 80 to 99. in the PSP version this was removed. however in the PSP version it is possible to get an early masamune and save the queen from two knights that you can encounter in the desert map. the knight on the psx version had a different portrait for a face than the rest in the game and is solo fighting a red bull. was removed in the PSP version however you can fight knights there and sometimes you will fight a female knight with equip katana and she will have either a muramasa or a masamune. the male knight will sometimes have save the queen. also if you get to lv 45 before you encounter lusso he will come with chapter 4 equips. rune blade ageis shield for some reason,crystal helm reflect mail and sometimes he has rubber boots or a feather mantle. currently I'm running various tests on invisible status on both PSP And psx. there are actually a lot of neat things you can do with the invisible mantle from Germinas peak. or ninja clothes from deep dungeon. also I seen someone post about completing the game with a monster squad. that actually is super fun and if anyone wants to it, I recommend getting reis first. a party of dragons with her is pretty insane. I prefer behemoths lol has anyone found any monsters who's magic stat actually work for an ability? Byblos doesn't count. ahirmans or floating eyes seems to have their negative abilities work more with high magic. same with the Trent/squids/ and the purple cats.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it already but you could have gave Ninja Gafgarion Equip Shield and took up one of his attacks with a really weak shield.

that's how RNG works. Sometimes you'll get a 8% chance steal in the first try, somethise you'll miss those 95% attacks.
speaking of which... fire emblem 8... I had my swordsmen get hit by a one percent critical hit twice in a row! -.-

actually, 72% first hit from the flank but since he dodges it he turns facing the attacker and second hit success is much lower then. quite unlucky missing twice tho
I feel like the algorithms on the PlayStation version made the higher percentage is harder to dodge but that there were different algorithms on the PSP version and the mobile version that made the percentages untrustworthy

Holy balls, I had no idea anyone else was insane enough to do this trick. I ended up doing it myself a long time ago just to see if it could be done. I have been able to do it on both PSX and PSP, however it is definitely not worth it, lol. You just about go mad with the time it takes.

the point is u get the weapons sooner. by the time u get it, u only got a few battles then the story is over. doing this gets u best weapons to from Chapter 2 to end. next step is to level down back to like 10-20 and continue story with new weapons! yep.
It's more of ppl that needs to 100% a game you can't just settle for 1 of the weapon you have to get max possible amount and from every possible way

I'm playing the Wotl version and its working as well.
FWIW I found it much easier to level Gaff. to the max level, then bring a Mind Flayer with me to level him down throughout the fight when I was done collecting items. Got myself 20 Chirijiradens and 30 Masamunes from this fight this way :3

Well I already saved the game a day ago after saving the chocobo ,so no use trying to grind to level 99 for GAF to be level 96 just to toss a Holy Knight's sword at you
some people are missing the point.. the point is you CAN do it no that you should. this isn't an effective or efficient strategy for getting excalibur and ragnarok early.
hey instead of keeping deleta busy you could just kill him so he becomes unconscious. sure he gets back up but it takes 3-5 turns for him to stand back up. much easier than rezing enemies. also to get to 99 i noticed you used steal on the thief. my tactic was always giving every person accumulate because then you can do 999 to anyone anyway. good video.
You could've just taken out Delita - the objective is protecting the princess, says nothin about keeping him alive.
It is easier to get it from ninjas in the twin mages mission using almost the same method.
For all of you people that keep asking "you now lvl 99 so what's the point?": the point is to get fancy weapons, yeah. But then you de-level again to lvl 15 and keep the main storyline... Using fancy weapons.
There's two kind of people:
* The ones who enjoy this stupidity and have wasted a lot of years of your childhood playng this fkng game like five hours a day making mad shit with all jobs and RNG and improbably events in-game, and even still playing it today on emulators (like me, playing this since 2006).
* The "what's-the-point" ones.
Doesn't matter if you like doing this or not, if you've played this game you're aweasome. Probably not as mad as some of us to make shit like this by 13 years long, but aweasome anyway.

@@wesmantooth6369 there's Degenerator traps that delevel you and there's also enemies in the game that have skills that delevel you. Deleveling on purpose is actually how you'd go about min maxing the game though obviously its completely unnecessary. The idea is that you level up in a class with good stat growths and then delevel as a class with bad stat growths (since the stats they take away from you when you delevel are based on the current class' growths).
I easily lean more towards the former type of person that Agustin describes. I haven''t played the game quite that much but since i recently started a new play through, I've been looking into all kinds of details about the game that I didn't know about as a child and implementing them. I never knew the busted potential of Calculators. Nor how important Brave and Faith are as stats and that I could manipulate them.

71 hours of time to get to that point, mind you, it takes about 20-25 hours to get to the point normally where you would have a reasonable chance of getting it end game. I admire your courage sir! I am far too impatient for this nonsense bwahahahahahahahahaha
As someone who has actively grinded for the fun of it in these final fantasy games, I don't know if I have the mental capacity to try this, given how I'm almost certain Gaffgarion is programmed to be a self-centred prick, much like his actual self

i think 5 lvl below you get an instant lvl up so it would only take 88 turns to get him lvl 95 if the enemy is 99. chocobos are best because near death they will always heal.
@@azinyefantasy4445 sorry to burst you bubble but you don't have 88 turns since the storyline enemies are under level 10 the chocobo will say wahack! then the match ends automatically
Yes, I have 2 dancers at level 37 with secondary skills 1 with time magic and 1 with white magic for agartha , gafgarion and the goblins

I've seen people do this and de level their characters to the story level and have a normal playthrough with these weapons
suekru yea but getting a guest character like that dark knight guy to 99 is really hard lmao! you probally need an orator to weaken his str by using threaten on him lower his bravery to 10 and knight to decrease his attack power to 1... and do the same to the other enemy so that you can easily get the daark knight to level 99... atlhough I perfer to take my time and get 99 level for all my characters... and have an enemy generic ninja throw those rare weapons at my characters, so I can steal them lmao
for bragging rights. i spent 6 hours trying to steal the full genji set from that jackarse undead vampire and the armlets from his bitches.

***** Not good enough? That's like saying someone isn't good enough to use the strategy of Black Mage Calcs blasting everything with Holy and winning everything in the first round. It's a good strategy, but it takes the fun out of the game. All this is, is grinding and patience. It's very cool to see that it's possible to do this, but it's completely impractical.

Nice rare weapons challenge, I too like to be OP when playing the story mode. wish this game had a new plus mode, It would make the 2nd play through less grindy but That why I play this game, to grind.

If you read the comments you will realize something... Very few people know that magic exists in the game.
If you're level 99 with bad equipment... the Oracle is the best class for Sleep or Petrify and of course Faith, the Time Mage for Stop, Haste, and Slow. Black Mage for damage (Don't use the Summoner unless you're playing the PS1 NA version)
In fact if you're going to level up like this... I recommend making/keeping Ramza your mage. He can get a 97 base Faith which gives him not only stupid high success rate and no need for Faith buffing/equipment but also lets your allies have low Faith for physical based teams. Meaning your allies get magic resistance.
Scream also boosts his MA being one of the very few methods to raise MA mid battle though you'll want Short Charge/Half Charge to make use of this effectively. (This also makes him the only really usable Summoner... but summon spells deal so little damage compared to Black Magic in WotL or the Japanese version it is a joke.)
Basically... use magic.

I put the best stuff on him and steal it back, since the game actually gives you all his gear back. So you basically double your best stuff.
Unless I have to keep the guest alive (looking at you Rapha), I usually just strip guests off whatever equips they come with and redistribute it to my crew. Stripping Princess Ovelia after Zirekile Falls gives you equips you can't get until Chapter 3... and you should absolutely strip Alma off her Barrette which is useful against Celia and Ledia (Riovanes rooftop) and her Red shoes is useful for your magic class character.
LOL at the absurdity. Have you ever tried giving him equip change and removing all of his equipment? Not sure if the AI would use the ability, but if it did this would give you access to high level accessories, helmets, armors, shields, and weapons of whatever class you chose for him.
Where the hell did you get a Feather Mantle from in Chapter 2? That's what I wanna know! lol
steal them from human enemies when grinding
Random Battles with Human Enemies. Have a Mediator / Orator with the Invitation / Entice Skill in your Party and make them turn Traitor. After that, you can strip them of the Gear and dismiss them afterwards.
It's what I did in my Savegame. That's why I have Black Garbs, Tief Hats, Rune Blades etc that early in the game :)

+john lowe I think they can mate. those emeny generic ninjas must be at least 97 level and up and has to learn throw sword
That is why you must have 2-3 thieves with the Archer ability concentrate , monk ability to move status aliments and for medical ,Lancer dragon spirit (% for effectiveness)or geomancer counter flood ,foot abilities any you deem fit for the right job
Summoner half mp with time magic ability ,lancer dragon spirit , move 2-3
Dancers with summon/time/white/black magic ,either magic atk up /def up/atk up/concentrate/half mp.....

Hmm...I might be on drugs for suggesting this, but is it possible to do this with Algus in Chapter 1? My memory sucks, but I guess it wouldn't work because he has his own set job and equipment when you fight him at the end of Chapter 1...But, if he was setup the way you equipped him, then you might be able to pull it of even earlier in the game. I'll try it out on a new file. Give me like a week or so. That is, if I don't get sidetracked by stat maxing Ramza...
this MIGHT be possible with Algus, but would take alot more effort, since it would require him lvl grinding at the second or third story map, then you would need to go into the fourth or so story map and then somehow get Algus to throw a weapon at yourself (via the use of something like confuse), which is far more random and IMO even more difficult

what's the point getting excalibur and ragnarok at chapter 2 if you have your other characters at lvl 90+ ?
You should be able to get those weapons on the same dot you got Gafgarion to lvl 96. You just got to fight the ninjas during a random battle. Should save you a lot of time from doing all that leveling up.

I'd do it to get the Excalibur, Ragnarok, and the Chaos Blade, but after I've got them I'll de-grind my characters or rather have separate characters for the task. four sacrificial characters for the task alone then once ramza has at normal levels kick the 99 level characters out. To de-grind use degenerate traps in the desert and plateau maps will take time but less money on weapons. ;)

Can you get more than one of each in that same battle? Also, why not just kill Delita, it would've made it go quicker and you wouldn't have lost the battle? Would this work on the mobile Android version of this game?
Nice one. I think I will do it. I just finished Chapter 1. After getting my Squad to 99... I will do the same with Gafgarion. It will take some time, because leveling up a Guest can be a pain in the neck... still.. I think it's woth the Trouble. In my actual Savegame I have to do some things:
Getting, Ragnarock and Excalibur (2 of each if possible), then getting Agrias up to 99 as soon as I have full control over her, then Mustadio to 99, then stealing all the good stuff from the "special" People, learning Ultima, and finding the rare Treasures in the Midlight Dungeon. Mace of Zeus, Maximilian etc.. well you get the idea.
I did it once... several years ago... and I think I will do it again with War of the Lions. Got it on emulator... so everything runs smoothly.
if you are playing on the PS1 version of the game, you only need 1 of each sword. then you use item dupe glitch to multiply them both however many times you want.
If you want to get multiples of the swords Legit, then yah, thats going to be more work.
It's War of the Lions I am playing atm. PSP Emulator on PC, so yes, it looks like I will have to take the long way. Still.... even back in the day, I was able to get most of the rare stuff in the Game. Like the Treasure from the Deep Dungeon... hell, I was even able to learn the Zodiac Spell for the Summoner, which was a real pain in the neck, let me tell you...
Nevertheless... FF Tactics is simply brilliant. Period!

You might think so. But actually its better to do it with him as a Fresh lvl 96, Because it is certain he would lvl up before throwing Excalibur and then would then never throw it.

Ive got to 70+ on the PSP version before the end of chapter 1 just to get the Dark night. I then spent a good fair amount of time on the level trap.

+Licont I recently did this trick again and it worked! let me tell you it was annoying! I only manage to get two excaliburs, because on the third one, it killed my female generic monk... anyhow in case if someone didn't notice this... in case you miss this, you could go for the generics ninjas at the part where you first fought Marach! or the generic ninja the part where you can encounter generics orators! anyhow getting those two excaliburs worth it, thanks for the video;D

Well kudos on completing this but it seems pointless why would you need the strongest swords in the game if you are already lvl 99 at chap 2? The crazy thing is you will get the swords later on anyway so whats the point of trying to get it early when to do you need to become so OP you actually dont need the swords anymore?
Level traps. Once you have them (the swords) you can spend some time De-Leveling to a more appropriate level to match the chapter.
does this work on the WotL version of the game?
It is cool that this was figured out, but I doubt the game is any fun after this.
