RIP to all of the victims of the Bloody Sunday massacre, 30th January 1972, who died when British soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters during a civil rights march in Derry, Northern Ireland. Also, RIP to all of the innocent Irish lives who have died at the hands of the British during the occupation of Ireland.

There can never be any justification for the killing of innocent people. The people above were human beings with lives in front of them and that is what people need to see, so thank you for naming them. It is not about British vs Irish. We are one. It is all about the lives of real people. Beimid go léir le chéile mar aon ní amháin. Briotanach agus Gaeilge.

What would be the big deal if it did? In one way, great classic songs are being discovered by a new generation of people. If a bunch of people you'll never meet using a song on an app is enough to ruin the song for you, then I think the issue is with yourself rather than the app. 😛

    • @SaintAnger101
      @SaintAnger101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@angelkileyy Actually, no. Never used the app. Your detective skills are rusty, Columbo. 😛 Just don't get what the big deal is. The song won't lose its meaning. Using "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash on a harmless app for some flavour of the week joke won't make it any less of a meaningful song for example. And where did I insult you? I didn't call you a name or anything of the sort. Just simply questioned your logic. And TH-cam is an open forum. Sooner or later, this comment would have come. Lauren Clerkin This Bloody Sunday refers mainly to the 1972 killing of unarmed civil-rights protesters by soldiers of the British Army in Derry, Northern Ireland. These civil-right protest were in the context of the conflict known as "The Troubles", which, while not a religious conflict per se, has an important religious background. The conflict began amidst a campaign to end discrimination against the Catholic/nationalist minority in electoral boundaries, voting rights, and the allocation of public housing, by the Protestant/unionist-dominated government and police force.

susan colby I am listening to "The Man Behind the Wire" right now. Thanks for the new music. I have a question for you...I would like to hear from some true Irish on this... Is there racism against blacks in Ireland? How much, and who is doing it and why? I don't know shit and I want to not be ignorant. I am a black man, and every Irish blooded American I know I have always had a sense of camaraderie with them that comes from a place of our feeling a mutual sense of discrimination considering the history of America with respect to our cultures. Am I crazy or am I welcome in Ireland as a brother?

Lawrence Malcheff i am American. my grandparents from Ireland, so Irish ancestry . I am from Massachusetts so we were exposed to the troubles much more than other parts of the United States. when the Irish immigrated here, they were discriminated against something awful. there were signs that said, No Irish Wanted. AND many woman were indentured servants of wasp families. something interesting is that THE British enslaved the Irish AND sent them to Jamaica to pick sugar cane. hence the term, black Irish. when I tell people that Irish were slaves THEY don't know about it, white slaves? Yea, I despise the British government, get out of 13 counties in the North of Ireland. 800 year's enough!

I like to play this song on repeat late at night while wallowing in self-hatred for leaving my homework to the last possible second on Sunday. If Monday is the worst day of the week, Sunday is the second worst. I find the military beat gives me a sense of direction, a desire to keep buggering on, as Winston Churchill would put it. (I know I'm completely missing the original point of the song, but I do not care; I need more coffee.)

I remember the exact moment I first heard this song: I was 15, in the car with my dad driving northbound on highway 77 in Bloomington, Minnesota. It was a little before seven in the early spring. The sun was just going down, the lighting on the bridge arches was beautiful, and I was sitting stock-still in the passenger seat just feeling the power of this song wash over me. Thank GOD the internet existed and I could immediately listen to it about ten more times when we got home.

    Yeah
I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
    And make it go away
    How long?
How long must we sing this song?
    How long, how long?
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
    Tonight
    Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
    It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday, Sunday, Bloody Sunday (alright)
    And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    How long?
How long must we sing this song?
    How long, how long?
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
    Tonight, tonight
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
(Tonight, tonight) Sunday, Bloody Sunday (let's go)
Wipe the tears from your eyes
    Wipe your tears away
    Oh, wipe your tears away
I'll, wipe your tears away (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
I'll, wipe your blood shot eyes (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
    And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die
    the real battle just begun
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday) to claim the victory Jesus won
    On
    Sunday Bloody Sunday, yeah

This song is brilliant, it's quite emotive as it not only relates to the Bloody Sunday incident in 1972, but to the troubles in Northern Ireland generally, Bono says it's not political, but it is really and what it really encapsulates is how NI was in 70's and the 80's, it was quite a dangerous place at times and they managed to create a song that is catchy and tells a story at the same time.
