These films really get to me. A happy family with lovely children all in a modest home. I love seeing how excited they are to open presents. Little girl feeding her doll, boys running to the rifles, dad trying on shoes, mom smells her perfume ,older girl shows her cute new jacket. One Christmas morning when I was about 9 or 10 I got a BMX Bike and I literally couldn't believe it. I remember riding around the neighborhood all morning telling everybody Merry Christmas and I meant it.That was such a happy day.
These are great! Made me feel strange watching this. I am the same age as the baby , born in ‘63. Loved seeing them all growing up over the years. It would be wonderful if those “children” discovered their home movies on TH-cam, and tell us how their movies were lost.
The Germany part is at one of the US military bases in Germany. I surmise this family had moved from one military base to other. I recognise many of architectural features of German homes in the film. The train set is Märklin starter kit: I received the exact one for my birthday in 1970. The Christmas presents were bought in the US by their family members and relatives and shipped to Germany (at standard domestic charge despite shipped overseas from the US to Germany) by military post. It was common to glue several short reels together to form one longer reel as to save money on digital scanning. My father did that, but the reels weren't in chronological order or labelled. It took me a while to sort them into the chronological order. I plan to scan the original film reels again and colour grade them for my family.
I grew up in one of the huge post war subdivisions in small cookie cutter ranches in the northeast myself , by the mid 80s the neighborhood was on its way down . Now days the place is dangerous.
This is amazing! I see there was another very important present in 1963. Rather than spoiled, these kids look genuinely thrilled with their gifts, which go along with their growth. Got a little misty watching this. My Christmases were great but, not the same, as I was an only child. I hope they were as happy as they seem...
Comment on a photo that you’ve sent them a message if you can. Or request to be their friend. If you just a message as a stranger they may never see it as those kinds of messages are typically filtered by Fb.
This was lovely and fun to watch. I am taking a guess that this might have been a military family that were stationed at a base in Germany living in military housing. The toy packages are in English, not German, and would have been bought at the Base Exchange. Kansas has Fort Leavenworth, so possibly an Army family? I was a Navy military brat and spent 2 years overseas, then a year in Illinois, and then Virginia. This is similar to my experience, so I am assuming the same for them.
Wow, I found this channel today, July 9, 2024. All I kept thinking of was how awesome it would be for the family members alive today (the baby or younger children) to see this footage. What saddens me also is that @museum of lost memories has not posted a video in six months. Looking back at his videos I see that his posts are far and few between. We love what you do museum of lost memories. Thank you. Ok, David, I just watched your “community” video of you on PBS!!! How awesome is that!!!! ❤❤❤
These are beautiful and nostalgic images into our pasts and hearts. *Christmas* spent with family from years gone by. Spent around the *Christmas* tree, decked in *Christmas* lights opening our *Christmas* presents *Christmas* cards and then tucking into *Christmas* dinner. In an era before political correctness and changing the word *Christmas* to "Holidays" or "the Holidays"
Looks just like my household on Christmas morning…thank you for these videos. My eyes are filled with tears as I watch this. I’m 62yo now, and all my family is gone. This melts my heart. I enjoyed those so much!
10:50 It's weird how 30 years later we were still playing with the same toys. Springy and slot cars were still a thing when i was in kindergarden in 1993 and they still are now - especially the slot cars. 11:10 had the same issues as well
very cool, I've been buying old films on garage and estate sales for the last 10 years, and recently got to scanning them. Lots of footage from World Fair too, along with some european travel etc.
What a beautiful family , we have lost so much of ourselves in the last 50 or 60 years . I fear we will never get back to these type of simpler times and freedom.
This is so beautiful memory it made me cry . Iam a 51 male that realized that i have not one of these type of memories recorded. And Grandma and Grandpa and mom have past i no longer have Christmas at all for 20 years my brother and i just get together and cook a good meal. What is crazy we try to make the meal big as it was when we were kids and all the aunt's and uncles and grandparents and nieces and nephews all got together. My family is similar to this movie i saw called soul food? But we never got back together. I think the other person who commented is right we nologer go to church nolonger celebrating the holidays how can society hold together without these traditions cementing good memories of life.
I just love this this. What an incredible find. I cant even imagine (Im 67) have someone turn up with old movies or photos of my childhood with friends and family. I lost some photos in 1973 i would give almost anything to get back. Such a lovely, interesting, and kind thing to do!
This was very cool. Those children got a lot of gifts. We didn't get that much between the three of us when I was a kid, because it would've taken away from my mom spending money on herself. I made sure my children always had about 7 or 8 gifts to open. But also taught them Christmas wasn't about gifts. Jesus is the reason for the season.
Instead of music, use the sound of a projector running! Might have a different experience watching. The sound can make a huge difference. I mean could you imagine dadadadada 😊
I found betamax videos from 1980, that had local news stories, about some kid at school. I found him on the internet and blew his mind when i told him the story, and sent him a copy on dvd. He was so happy to get it. Now I'm obsessed finding old videos. I been collecting films too, but don't have a machine like that, or a computer to professionally do it. I posted one on my channel i filmed with my video camera tho, of a stunt car driver that was kinda famous back in the day. Might be the only footage of him.
I think this could be a family whose father was in the military and that’s why they moved around, most likely to different bases including Germany. The father must have been an officer who rose in rank as they had money. You can tell by the tech (movie and recording, the kitchen, furniture, etc.) and the amount of gifts. I was these kids age in the 60s and grew up in a middle class family.
Incomprehensible as to why anyone would ever get rid of their 8mm family film. Even if the whole family was wiped out wouldn't there be some distant relative that might be interested. There are probably a scenarios where it makes sense, however they are probably very rare. BTW, anyone with really old 16mm film might consider digitizing it before it is the victim of what is referred to as the "vinegar effect" which will turn the old B&W film into, well, a complete and unusable mess.
When I run across these types of videos on YT I often wonder how the boys made out in life. Hoping that they weren't lost in Vietnam or maybe became Hippies etc. I just missed a free vacation to Vietnam but I made out due to the draw down there. Turbulent times ahead for this family and I hope all went well for them.
Do you remember the beginning of the show Gomer Pyle USMC where Jim Nabors is marching with the Marines? Well, he said he couldn`t watch that after the war cause most of those men died. Thanks and RIP to them all.
Looks like it could have been one of my old family Christmas films with my siblings in the early sixties. I like the music in this one. Simple but nice background.
It looks like slightly squashed, and/or maybe cropped, why? Why not: -Historically inaccurate for many reasons, and if cropped, you're not preserving the whole film. -You're distorting someone's body and face without asking. -Not everyone has a vision that can correct the distortion, they will constantly notice that it looks wrong and will not click like button, even if the music was not too repetitious.
I’m NOT crying…I’m NOT crying…WHY am I crying? Well, maybe for a time that is lost, gone, when things seemed simpler, maybe not perfect, it men were men and women were women. We still had “innocence” as a people, a time we still had trust, where your word and character were important, a time where, if you worked hard, you got ahead, where so much was still a possibility, a time we still, even as adults, believed in “magic” and hope, we had hope for the future….Im crying now because I’ve lost my faith and hope 😢
It’s an interesting feeling…having nostalgia for a family I never knew in a time I didn’t exist.
These films really get to me. A happy family with lovely children all in a modest home. I love seeing how excited they are to open presents. Little girl feeding her doll, boys running to the rifles, dad trying on shoes, mom smells her perfume ,older girl shows her cute new jacket.

Yes, it brings a tear to my eye too!
I was born in 1960. Loved watching. I too became emotional. People just enjoying their lives.
Good for you trying to find these people in the film my father took movie of our eldest siblings as children
Thank you for posting this
10:38 There is nothing more beautiful than a baby's expression of pure joy.
You are absolutely correct!

I was born in April 1963.

Great reel! Brought back lots of memories. One of the houses they lived in was same post-war ranch design I grew up in the Northeast.

So true. Nowadays kids get gifts all the time. Walmart etc make it cheap.
Sure hope you keep doing these. Makes me smile and tear-up all at once.
Me and some other person tried to contact two of the siblings on Facebook, but they haven't seen the messages yet...

I love the mom with the cigarette!! So 60s

A very fun and enjoyable film. I loved seeing the kids grow, especially the youngest. I wonder what happened to them all?
Very much the environment I grew up with. Loving family, good times.

I'm 68 yo and as I type this I too have tears in my eyes. Carl, good memories never die my friend, they live on in our hearts! God bless you!

Do you have any concept of how true your simple statement is…and how powerful 😢

Poignant analysis. Dave, 65 yo.

I lost all my super 8 silent and sound movies from the 60s and 70s. I hope I find them someday
It looks like Sue would be the same age as my Mom, 74. Highly likely these siblings are alive.
I don't know about "highly likely", but yes, possibly.

Feel like it's been forever
Stockings could just be pet names, it might have been a military family moving around

This footage is so old, worn & otherworldly looking. But it’s amazing to think that the Wizard of Oz film was already over 20 years old here.
Looks like it could have been one of my old family Christmas films with my siblings in the early sixties.
I like the music in this one. Simple but nice background.
At 65, too hard to watch. What a loving Father.
I think my dad/I had the same train and wagons, and many more. I played with them a lot. Probably painted with lead too. Juicy lead everywhere. 🤣
mom smoking a cigarette, BB guns leaning up against a chair close to a toddler - how did we ever survive? LOL
My uncle taped his little kid coming downstairs on Christmas morning crying because of those bright lights you needed to use then.
So melancholy.
These brought back memories for me, I was born in 1961.
Me too!
I was a baby in 1963 too!
Everyone's got a cocktail and cigarette in their hands. LOL
I hope it’s Christmas Eve, the grownups all look half lit!
Expecting many videos from you, wow. Can you please find late 1980s tech era, I want to see the real vibe of that where computers just came in.
What convertor do you use?
😢❤
I turned 4 in 61, how time fly's.

@ 05:50 - Does that say ELEANOR on her blouse?
🥺❤️

Min 3.30, the lady in gray, she looks like Eva Braun.
Probably a military family.
so many guns 😂

6.25 2024 tue. today @ 2224 Pacific.
You did it again with the endless awful music, dude
Agreed!!!
Real bad piano music
He does need a music director.
Love the music. All of it makes me want to go back to times like these. So hauntingly nostalgic.
Dear God, yes, so monotonous, and I'm glad I'm not the only one to say so. I definitely enjoy these nostalgic films very much for sure.
I saw this on TV and went to this site and the very first video is so Strong it caused me to cry and i can't finish right now .
63 was a mobile/manufactured home.
