- Scream actors Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich gave a cast panel at the June 2021 edition of Steel City Con to discuss the amazing movie, their careers and to answer fan questions.
Matthew Lillard was Stuart in Scream, but is also well known as Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, plus had roles in the Wing Commander movie, Thirteen Ghosts, The Bridge, Bosch, Twin Peaks and Good Girls, plus voice roles in Scooby-Doo, American Dad and Beware the Batman.
Skeet Ulrich portrayed Billy in Scream, plus is known for The Craft, Into the West, Armored, Riverdale, Bronzeville, Law & Order: L.A. and Jericho.

Matthew is the perfect actor to play the character of Stu. And Skeet has that look like he will gonna kill you. Best horror movie for the 90's kids.
I actually think the first is one of the best of all time. The 80’s almost ruined the genre, Scream reinvented it. Reminds me of rock in the 80’s needing a reset.

Evil Dead 1&2, Fright Night, Near Dark, Return of the Living Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street & it's best sequel Dream Warriors, Child's Play, Poltergeist, Gremlins, Aliens, The Thing, The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, Hellraiser, PumpkinHead, They Live, Scanners, VideoDrome, The Fly, Christine, Creepshow, Reanimator, The Shining, The Lost Boys... Etc. The list goes on and on! I'm a massive horror fan but if you wanna be real the 90's/00's were pretty shit decades for the genre with a few legit gems sprinkled in here and there.
@@mr.jonesy8521 I didn't say the 80's didn't have great horror, I meant that it was at the point of exhaustion, for every good horror movie there were 50 Michael Myers clones with your typical cliche ditsy girl tripping over herself, naked girl in shower scene and/or low on intelligence characters, stereotypical 80's cartoon jock characters. 80's were inundated with poor horror movies and poor writing. A lot of studios just released crap because they knew it would make money. We were pretty much at the point where comic book movies are right now, (although comic movies have enjoyed a more sustained period of success) it was all getting boring. Did you even live through the 80's bruh. Scream was a breath of fresh air. Wes Craven is a genius.
@@ihatekillerclowns I definitely lived through the 80's BRUH! & Scream was definitely a breathe of fresh air during the back half of a decade that was pretty much shit for horror! Also Scream reinvented/reignited an interest in the Slasher Genre that unfortunately spawned clones of itself with shitty sequels, I Know What you Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, The Faculty, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Valentine etc. but definitely didn't "reinvent" Horror as a whole. The 80's were definitely oversaturated with Slasher films because that's the decade in horror that really brought that sub genre to the forefront! Aside from that the 80's is loaded with classics.
@@mr.jonesy8521 When I was referring to horror genre, I was referring to the atypical slasher. Allow me to clarify that statement that you take issue with, i didn't mean it reinvented the wheel - but i felt it reinvented its place within the genre, suddenly the bar was raised. It's an important movie, because things were getting stale and predictable to say the least after the 80's.......it was a joke, cliche after cliche. If you lived the 80's, you would know this.
Scream was fresh, I felt I hadn't seen anything like it, it brought all the elements of good horror, but also poked fun at itself and the genre, and it felt different for it, fresh; intelligent writing, witty, scary, all the elements were down perfectly - and an elusive and terrifying killer. I don't think it gets as much credit as it deserves. You named the best horror movies of the 80's in general , but it certainly wasn't indicative of the quality throughout the 80's (but again, I should have stressed that I was alluding to slashers), the highs were high with slashers and the lows were even lower..
The catalogue of movies you named as being Scream spawns maybe true (but it's also a compliment to Scream as one of the more influential horror movies in recent times) some of which were actually written by Kevin Williamson if I am not mistaken and weren't ALL that BAD, and were at the very least watchable, even if it suffered the same pitfalls of some of the terrible 80's horror films (i.e stupidly written characters, plot holes, a killer who walks always catches their victim running like a headless chicken). The Faculty was paying homage to Invasion of the body snatchers and other horror / sci fi films, although there were elements of comedy thrown in, I haven't heard anyone refer to that movie as shitty before?
The 80's was 100% the undisputed pound for pound king of shitty sequels, and clones, it imploded. I still get nightmares from renting some of those shitty VHS horror movies.
You can’t tell me these aren’t the most perfect celebs, especially in the horror genre. They have such pure souls and I love them so much.

Lillard is a pure soul but Skeet is darker and has a lot of rumors of him sometimes being a p.o.s.

They will never be topped, the two best killers. Skets broodiness, bad boy look and, mysterious Orr to Matthew's comedic undertone.. Perfect combo, on opposite ends of the spectrum.

@@johncap7201 I would say that Mrs. Loomis and Roman are good contenders, of course I know that for the former, I'm taking Debbie without her partner but they both are really good in the films. Especially Loomis, Lord she's fucking insane at the end.

Matthew Lillard is a very underrated actor. He killed it in Twin Peaks. That's the first i saw him since Scream, and the last I've seen him before this.
He played in 13 Ghosts.. great movie. And Shaggy in the live action Scooby Doo movies. He’s don’t a lot.

Most people wouldn't openly admit that. They'd say some cliche shit like "I come here for the fans."
Even when he’s doing promo stuff for D&D/Beadle & Grimm he’s very open and honest about everything. It’s refreshing to know he’s probably not lying but sometimes it leaves you wondering if he’s enjoying what he’s doing or if it’s just doting I’s and crossing T’s to him
My son is the one at 16 minutes that he calls the unicorn when I stand up to ask a question. He made the day so special for him all three times we saw him. On Saturday we got the autograph and the photo up and then on Sunday at the panel. He is so amazing! 🤩🤩🤩

They both seem way more excited during this year's panel. I think they're gonna be in the Scream (2022). Stu's house is actually shown in the new movie! I'd also ask them who do they believe was the truer psychopath and who had the most kills- Billy or Stu? I believe Billy is the correct answer to both! 🔪 👻 🎃

They where both perfect in their roles, I think they are some of the greatest villains of a movie.

I never watched all of Jericho but liked what I saw, and got to meet Skeet at a Jericho panel way back around 2007 or so I want to say, or a year or two later (sadly I can't find a video of the full panel where I asked my question that they used to have up!). I asked him a question at the panel, then I was a dork and asked for his name placard, lol. After the panel I lined up for the signing, and everyone was super kind and sneakily took the placard from me for him to sign and I got to shake his hand. He gave off a very warm aura, had a very firm handshake, and definitely a kind person from what I could tell in that quick interaction.
The respect they have for their fans is amazing

Damn this was 6 days ago. I was 13 when this movie came out. Saw part 2 in theaters. I had huge crush on Neve Campbell since party of five. I have the limited edition scream trilogy on dvd. Cant believe its been 25 years! I'm binge watching every thing scream
I was 11 and I had the biggest crush on Skeet
I believe I was either 13 or had just turned 14 since this came out soon after my birthday in November. I pretty much had a crush on Skeet ever since, except I'm engaged now so my heart belongs to my fiance, haha :).
i would LOVE to go to a con and meet these guys!! Usually they say never meet your idols etc but these two seem so genuinely nice, appreciative and friendly to their fans and ive only ever seen and heard amazing things about them which is awesome and I'm happy to see/hear that ;) they're the best!!

People always say don't meet your idols, but I've met quite a few of my favs at festivals and conventions and such, and they've universally been sweethearts, so... I dunno. I'd say the better adage would be "don't idolize douchebags." Then you can meet your idols all you want and have a great experience every time!

I remember going to watch scream 6 nights in a row , my GF at the time was a bit sick of seeing it after the 3rd time but bless her she sat through all 6 times we watched that movie that week , cant count how many times ive seen it now over 25 years later
I had a crush on both of them when I was around 9. I watched scream over and over and even took a Polaroid of billy and put it on my mirror lol
My friend and I have this trend where we teach each other a lesson once a week. We sit down and chat and just speak about one lesson we each learned. When Skeet said he learns something new everyday I liked that and it resonated with me. Knowledge is power!

Skeet in matt was my all-time favorite of The scream films. And then went skiing was cast for Riverdale as the head honcho for the Southside serpents I probably watch the seasons four times because I think that skeet is really hot.

I always liked the idea that Stu survived scarred somehow, his powerful family moved him out of the country. As an older man, we see him and billy stocking someone in Europe. Turns out Billy's father was an identical twin. He had been estranged from his brother for years. Billy's cousin looked exactly like Billy. No one other than Billy and Stu knew the cousins were super close. Billy's cousin was the third killer and the one killed in the 1996 movie. They switched out after the kitchen scene before the umbrella stab. Say they liked sharing their victims.
This story idea would allow Billy and Stu to return to finish Sidney off in Scream 7. Just like Randy said, it all circles back to the very first one. What you think you know as truth, is completely backward.
A skilled screenwriter could make this work. Imagine the end of Scream 7, older billy and stu Removing their mask in front of Sydney. Fans would lose there minds.🤓

Can we get a sitcom called Billy and Stu? Focused on a parallel timeline where Billy and Stu are 40 and live together because they never went on a killing spree. Billy is divorced from Sidney still filled with so so much rage and Stu is the same old loveable Stu. Some kids with Tatum maybe. Both miserable couch potatoes out of shape and in dead end jobs.

My confusion is Wes Craven just came out with New Nightmare only like 2 years prior to Scream. Freddy was a huge franchise. Why they saying when Wes did Scream, he hasn't doe a good horror in a while?

Only issue with these is people ask them the same questions as all the other panels they’ve done over the years and you can find these on TH-cam
The types of people who ask questions at panels genuinely believe that their slightly differently worded question is an original thought. It's actually quite uncomfortable how little awareness they have. Plus a lot of them think asking a question is the same as meeting and having a conversation "with their idol" so.
Not everyone goes to all the cons so let them ask what they want
