People need to realize that the Civic SI is a great car for what's it's meant for. Is it the fastest car in the segment? No. Is it the sportiest car in the segment? No. Is it the most reliable car and have the most features for the best price and also be a practical daily driver? YES. If you want a super sports car, pony up the money for a BMW or Audi....unfortunately their reliability isn't too good and they overcharge you for their brand name. I've had Civics, Audi's and currently drive a 2013 BMW 335i....the Civic SI is the best valued car out there hands down if you factor everything in.
Just bought a '15 si sedan for practicality, commuting, tech and those windy roads on my way home. I completely agree. I don't need 300 hp in traffic. On the weekends, driving this car is a blast. Not the worst on gas either.
Nice job Honda.. Now the civic looks more premium that's a plus I also like the outside looks!!
I would like to see Honda bringing back the Preludes!!!
I think they might considering the civic is 4 doors only now
Say what you want to about the Civic SI. I have never run across a bad driver in one. They all can drive their ass off.
Haha ya they know how to work a car actually
Great review. Exactly what I was looking for - thanks for the driving dynamic details!
Glad to the suspension + steering improved. That is my biggest gripe with my '13 sedan. Handling wise I still prefer my '00 Prelude SH( though '14 years ago it was still $2-$3k more than this). That car has minimal body roll and in corners it pushes me to go faster. Rides really firm though on stock suspension, much noisier and not as much torque.
I love this car! Yes, some cars are faster. Some more comfortable, but none have the blend of the amazing 6 speed and vtech engine.
Vtec* :)
I fucking hate the idiots that praise honda but misspell vtec ... grinds my gearbox
who do yall always "review" this car on the track. Can we get a normal everyday review
Because this car is supposed to be a "performance variant" of the civic, so the logical thing is to try the "performance" on a test track... even when the people buying it will not use it like that :)
Julio Coello ok..autoguide reviews many "performance oriented" cars on public roads
RayzaBlayz fine but still its just a civic, on the open road will still be so don't worry about everyday stuff, it still will work well :D
Great review...
Great review
Looks beautiful
With that color, it's gorgeous :3
I raced a civic si today in my mazda3s 2.5l. He beat me off the line but once we hit around 40mph he stopped pulling away and I caught him once he hit his limiter. Which must be around 125-128ish. My mazda tops out at 133 :)
Fuel shuts off at 136ish unless ecu reflashed.
People are quick to bash Honda, but have probably never experienced vtec. Also a Civic Si with Hondata, a cai, a catback exhaust, and a aftermarket filter to keep up with or even pull from its competition. Put a turbo or supercharger kit on a Civic Si and it'll end up competing against STI's and EVO's.
Im 16, I would get a used evo or a wrx, but insurance is stupid high for me.
i love that car, i love that car
Pay a little more and get a scion FRS instead, a true sports car.
and the shittiest interior known to man
BRZ
Or pay less and get a Fiesta ST.
I am with the Fiesta ST. Or buy a used Evo =D
MrGovenator1 Agree with Fiesta ST
Did your test Si have the summer or all season tires?
They look like summer only.
Suspension still blows coilovers r a must it just sits too high and the body roll is present and the 18 inch rims don’t help honestly i put coilovers and 17’s and it’s a lot better
Ughh Stop comparing RWD with FWD.. they are not even in the same segment..
I feel Honda has never made a good looking Civic Coupe or Accord Coupe but the Sedan is good looking. I like my 2012 Lx sedan
Good car but not great, Honda need to do a type r version and bring civic back to legendary status
they are
They won't bring CTR to the USA. Unless you are going to pay $40 for it.
I would throw down 40k for that level of performance.
Paras Kalra What level of performance. The 27k WRX will take out the 300 hp type r. So will all the Domestics pony cars. A lighter better handling Si in the same price range as the current car is the way to go.
that what a type always been
Trading in my 07 Cobalt ss for one, drove the fiesta st and brz and though both are more performance aside the fact honda slays both in the straights, both will cost me 200 more a month on insurance and both cost 1500-2700 more as well. With all that money saved I'm gonna do a coil over kit get the hondata do an exhaust and intake and have myself a true honda time attack fwd ricer.... I MEAN racer 😉
Good choice man!
Did you do it?
@@amandaharpe9341 yes I did. I had it for 3 years. I lowered it on buddy club spec coil overs, did the rbc intake manifold swap with full bolt ons, 18x8.5 enkai rpf r1s. I did purchase a ct stage 1 super charger but instead of installing it ended up selling it for a truck. Was a great car, miss it so much. One of the most fun rides I’ve ever had.
I like his shirt
a 2006 honda civic si had 197 horsepower and after 8 years, the net result is an improvement of 8 horsepower?? horsepower isn't everything but come on...give us more than 1hp/year incerase.
don't forget the nearly 40lb/ft torque. That makes a huge difference.
Tyler Hunt True, but the "new" 2.4L engine is based on the old K24A2 engine in the 2004 Acura TSX, which produced 200hp and 171lbft of torque. My point is powertrain progress has been lacking with Honda.
Aaron C Not really. The head is very different, and utilizes an internal exhaust manifold in the head. The problem is they're trying to meet increasing emission standards while not only maintaining power output, but improving it. And also having to keep costs down. That's not an easy task for a naturally aspirated 4cyl engine.
Tyler Hunt 2004 TSX manual gets 21/29 mpg vs the 2014 Civic Si at 22/31 mpg. The TSX weighs over 300lb more and is less aerodynamic due to its larger dimensions, so that alone would explain the discrepancy.
+5 horsepower, +3lb-ft of torque, and negligible fuel efficiency improvement after a DECADE and you're going to defend Honda for what great work and progress they've done on that engine?
Honda's new generation of turbo-charged engines is almost here (their new turbo 1.5L produces 201hp and 192lf-ft) so they can finally put that dinosaur of an engine to pasture and you won't have to keep making excuses for them.
Honda still has fallen so far from its greatness in the 90s with so many great cars to pick from. I still own 2 Hondas but I myself picked up a 370z for my fun. In the last 10 plus years now, Honda has made boring dribble cars. And woo, a 4hp gain.....common, shoulda easily been 220hp by now. Honda has just lost its way, I feel that's a big reason why the FRS/BRZ has really sold well as the demand was there but there was no car to fill this Niche!
Ricky Vang I agree, If I were a consultant to Honda of America. id say ok guys, lets bring over 1 or 2k and number them like the Integra Type Rs. That way, you don't loose a lot by having tons here and the people who really want them can get them! If they sell good, then the next year bump it up from there.
Ricky Vang I see more and more. Hell I see the genesis coupes now everywhere. If that doesn't tell Honda there isn't a market for them, I don't know what will. I just gave up on Honda in the early 2000s as their designs started going downhill and their quality was only so so.
Stop comparing RWD with FWD..
hnnotyy tell Honda to bring back an integra or a prelude then. Ill compare whatever I want. Hyundai tossed out a 4cyl coupe and sells it in the 20ks and they sell like crazy so fwd or rwd doenst matter here. Honda has nothing is the point here.
hnnotyy I own 2 Honda preludes you MORON so you are the troll here. Idiot. I can say how I feel as I have owned 4 Hondas over the years. Honda is a dead company when it comes to fun sports cars or coupes.
I own one, yay!
Honda said they were bringing back the S2000 as well as a new roadster. Both of which will be mid-engined.
Not going to happen.
Not for sure but it's possible. www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2014/05/honda-bring-back-s2000.html
Sean Mangubat Not going to happen. Just rummers. Honda management is only interested in profit. Low volume inexpensive sports cars dont make money. Not the kind of money to make Honda corporate bite.
is it front or rear wheel drive?
fwd
fwd
nice
I still prefer the look of the 8th gen civic si
Most people that buy these cars use them as a daily though haha and never to hardly see the track
The Si is a great car.. videos of it and more on my channel!
I'd sill get a Veloster Turbo!
wish there was a 6th gen prelude
I do too, but with cars like this Si and Accord Coupe in Hondas lineup, it would be a tough sell in todays market
SSC3034 I think the Accord Coupe was what drove Honda to drop the prelude and maybe the integra too. Sad
Track it if you got it...
Wish they had it with auto transmission, manual gets tiring after a while.
Well I actually never drove a manual transmission but it seems like it is tiring like for instance imagine driving state to state
Or across country
Thanks for the feedback I'll take it into a consideration when I get my car.
You'd by an SI with a manual? Why?
Most of you kids can't afford this. Better stick to your 90's civics haha
You would be surprised. 26k here in Canada. So someone around 21-24 sells his beater car or whatever car he had before puts 5k down and the civic will be 300 a month, pretty affordable
Clearly you dont add interest, freight, tax, air tax, tire tax, and other expense. On a .99 interest i paid $36,000 for a 2014 honda civic si coupe
The payment are 231 bi weekly for me plus another 200 on insurance. And ps im in canada too
Brutal. I traded my 2010 si in 2012 for a Infiniti and payments went double. Just sold it last week and now I am debt free saved up about 8000$ and I am going to buy a used paid off civic si
Huss Ali what country you in?
People look stupid how do the rims look cheap.. have you seen cheap rims? They are just ugly .. not cheap looking
This is a great buy with 4 doors only in my opinion.
come on. Honda. where is my Integra Type R . Prelude ,S2000
Blah hate those red seats gross. It doesn't fit all colors too much red. I won't buy till they change it back to just black seats with red stitching and red Si logos. I'd buy the 4 only this time. 8th Gen still the best..
I'd rather spend my money on an FR-S
I smoke frs and brz with my 1.8 civic lmao
civic are boring unless you turbo/supercharged them. plain and simple.
lol, lame trolling
You sit entirely to high.
Exactly !! Looks way too high
Honda needs to get their head out of their ass & start building or bringing back cars that were great. Their the laughing stock of the sports car scene.
sexy!!
ugly rims to big 18 inch in a civic no way.
Why put such ugly rims on it?
The previous si's rims were much nicer.
Yeah I have a huge beef with the new rims. they look cheap and ugly. Previous models were way nicer. But that's a pretty minor issue.
Sports Pick Predictions
Not really....
sell the si rims and get volks. problem solved.
michael deadwyler Most dealerships can sell you different rims and tack it onto your payment plan. Then just sell the stocks, or use them for winter rims. Yeah, it's a pretty minor issue. Just weird that they would put such a cheap looking wheel on the si after a few years of really good looking wheels.
These craps are like iphones, everyone has to have one, even in car parts theres always parts for a Honda and not a Toyota or Nissan. I would definitely never buy one.
I thought the red insert seats were standard, not optional. Well that's a good thing, since the red inserts look very juvenile. I would opt for plain black. One more thing I would like to point out....it seems all Yanks have a double chin. Is it because all Yanks eat nothing but Big Macs?
Yawn
Its ugly as hell in front
ANother copy and paste vehicle. Good job honda.
It looks like a Prius coupe... Ugly
Oh yeah, from 215 tires to 225 tires, that's really big! LOL! I bet if you had a driver that was experienced, and was not obese, the car would be much faster. Why do Yanks where their sun-shades on top of their fat heads, instead of in front of their beady little eyes? Again, makes no sense! YANKS! LOL
That is just an ugly piece of crap, nobody needs ugly pieces of crap compact coupes like the 2014-2015 Honda Civic Coupe (the ninth generation Civic's last year is 2015) when you could get like a Kia Forte Koup.
