Strictly Come Dancing’s Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard begged bosses to avoid samba before being eliminated Tilly Pearce Sunday 24 Nov 2019 9:31 pm Saffron and AJ were eliminated from the competition Strictly’s latest eliminated pair Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard admitted they begged bosses to skip doing the samba over fears the ‘samba curse’ would strike. AJ has been voted off the show three times now after having to do the samba - and unfortunately had to continue his streak after being booted with Saffron this week. On Saturday’s live show, the pair landed in the bottom two alongside Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden - getting the boot after the judges voted unanimously to let them go. Speaking to The Sun, Saffron said: ‘We tried to get out of dancing the Samba but they wouldn’t let us.’ When asked if he thought the song was cursed, AJ then quipped: ‘You should ask production if they think that.’ The pair performed their samba to Katrina and the Waves classic Walking On Sunshine, but failed to get the public votes to secure another week on the show.

Why was there still an elimination that week after the scoring got all mixed up with the tie at the top between Kelvin and Karim and the resultant extra points given to the bottom couples and allowed illegitimate free passes for Chris, Emma and Alex, while my votes for Saffron and Karim were effectively powerless in saving them in almost the same way Tom and Camilla were unable to escape the dance-off even if they were top of the votes in the 2008 semi-final (there was just this gut feeling that this dance-off was somehow planned all along)?!
The old judges' points (6-6-4-3-2-2) converted into a tiebreaker (6-5-4-3-2-1) might've produced a fairer outcome with Saffron and AJ having a more equal chance of survival with the others and Karim being definitely safe too. Saffron and AJ were robbed, and I am so glad to see AJ here speaking out against this madness that led to their rigged elimination, and naming lovely Saffron as the real winner of 2019 just as Tom actually won 2008 with Camilla.
