Great story. I was in a navy fighter squadron in the late 60’s Vietnam war. I was a radar tech an AQ for F4J Phantom. These Navy drivers are the best in the world. Have so much respect for these guys. The talent, the nerve to land the Tomcat on a carrier, day or night, good and bad weather. I admire these guys. Being part of an attack fighter squadron in a war time situation is really cool.
Great content and wonderful story’s !! As a surface Sailor that spent most of my career in the engine rooms of destroyers I still remember Standing plane guard and seeing Tomcats overhead. What an amazing time!! Thanks for sharing!
@@ColmVD In the documentary, the instructor explains the reason why it was all apart of the F-14 training curriculum. Both aircrew went onto amazing careers resulting in multiple commands and incredible reputations in the Tomcat community. There’s nothing foolish in naval aviation…policies and procedures are always being assessed and improved resulting in optimal safety while executing this dangerous profession.
Its amazing that this man thought his story was dragging LOL, this was awesome.

I served with VF-101 and VF-142 in the 80s and these stories are just awesome! I just loved that bird. I could listen to these stories all day long!
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
Slammer, great way to start your navy flying career! Thanks for sharing, Viz.

Lost a BRAND NEW CAT to try a maneuver ahah that's crazy. Whay an absolute horrific thrill that must have been.
Damn lucky to survive and live to tell the day, but it is a great story and one that he will be able to get beers while he tells
Wow. Scary story. Brave man
So he ended up in a 1 circle fight in a chute...
Crazy
❤ Tax dollars well spent
Was that tail slide really necessary? Avoiding such a tail slide for the crew's foolish entertainment could have saved such an expensive aircraft
