      TH-cam VR allows me to up the resolution. It also has a neat button for 360 degree videos. It's odd though, because some videos have an 8k logo in their thumbnail, but then display much lower. The AeroPano guys do quite well.

    Love your videos - you are my first 'go to' for new information and honest reviews. My passion for VR started 30+ years ago at Siggraph with huge, expensive, tethered, mostly for military and industrial use and research. The Quest 2 was a game changer on all fronts and kept me sane during the pandemic era sequestered in Bali, Indonesia. Saved me from going stir crazy in paradise after 3 decades of travel for business and pleasure. I searched throughout the web downloading a terabyte + of high resolution VR/3D/180/360 content and traveling to the corners of the globe virtually. Looking forward with when Quest 3 ships to Indonesia to try it out. I've copied a lot of my movies usng pavtube which is so easy to use, format h265 / mkv as that has a nice compression and the quality is still pretty good. Plex media server also installed on the 6e router. Can play movies Plex (browser when I'm not at home) or through Skybox using wifi network when I'm at home. It's amaing, 3D movies/blu-ray they look great. Can also play 3D through Virtual Destop when I'm away as well with Plex browser but Skybox with the cinema is my favourite. I have a Quest 3.

    “4K content looks amazing”.
    Well, when watching that 4K content on a virtual screen the size of what’s shown in this video, it’s actually being rendered in like 480p resolution.
    To get anywhere close to true 4K in the Quest 3, the content would have to be played back over the entire field of view, making it unwatchable.
    One day VR headsets might be the ultimate cinema experience but we’re not there by a long shot.

    Hey cas! Another great video as always! I'm surprised you didn't mention any vrchat movie worlds in your video. I guess it's because of the legality of it. Honestly it's the most convenient option. You don't need to set anything up, the world already has everything, you can watch videos with friends, the only real downside is that there's not really that many options for passthrough screens. Although I think it would be a pretty sick idea if someone develops a vrchat world in the future where you can have passthrough (with greenscreen colored walls/floors) and have your VRC friends and a movie screen just floating anywhere in your house. Maybe someday.

    I agree that higher resolution VR headsets like Quest 3, and especially Bigscreen Beyond are excellent for movies. There are 2 issues that need to be resolved. 1. The sound. Unless you can easily wear your high end ANC headphones with your VR headset, you will not be able to get fully immersed. 2. Availability of content. I counted the number of 3D movies available for rental on Bigscreen, and the number I got was 17. So, unless I was missing some menu that shows more titles, there is hardly any content. Yes, I am able to rip my own movies, put it on a media server, etc. My issue with this is that I am a working engineer. I do not want to do engineering when I am not working. Well, hopefully we will get more titles in the future, otherwise, movies in VR, not matter how great, is just a curiosity.

    4xvr on the App lap is the best. It can decode MVC directly on the headset, as far as I know it's the only one which can do that. Since all 3D blu-rays are in MVC format, that's a must-have feature and makes pretty much all the other apps useless to me (since generally you might as well just use a proper tv for anything other than 3D).

      @@Verociity I went in reverse. Thankfully, only paying $300 for my G2. But pancake lenses are somewhat slept on in comparison to the resolution. Like oh my LORD they're good! I always assumed "edge-to-edge clarity" felt like more of a talking point than the truth. It really is full resolution up until almost the very edge of the lens. I'm so glad I didn't for the G2. 4k was nice, but hurt my eyes because everything other than looking dead ahead was blurry. Felt like an owl. Only downside of the Quest Pro is holy COW does the front pad hurt like a mf. Does the Q3's facial interface have fabric like the G2?

    • @Verociity
      @Verociity 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrJr1976 It feels the same as the G2 but because the G2 is so light it's fine, whereas the Q2/3 are so heavy that they need to be secured tightly to your face to prevent wobbling, which gets uncomfortable within an hour. Elite straps help as they don't need to be as tight to stay rigid. Halo straps also help because most of the pressure goes on your forehead, there's also more surface area between your face and forehead. Btw I also had eye strain the whole time I had the G2, it was also an issue in the first week of using the Q3 but now it seems like my eyes have adjusted somehow.

    Meta has to add more streaming apps to their platform (and more updated ones, looking at you Netflix). They should also try to incorporate those into a universal virtual environment that you can heavily customize. That'll cut off with the hassle of the cumbersome downloading stuff, and it'll increase how immersive the whole experience is.

    I got Quest 3 as my first VR headset, and I personally cannot imagine using it for watching movies. The resolution is WAY too low, the brightness and contrast is bad (worse than my IPS desktop monitor) and the comfort is far from ideal. But the main issue is the shitty display. Watching a movie even on a 2D monitor is way more immersive to me simply because I'm not constantly focusing on the shitty resolution and low contrast.

    • @JasonSturgess
      @JasonSturgess 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You obviously have not set it up currently ! looks better than my 4k OLED TV - You need to change the resolution and connect it direct to PC and the movie quality is amazing.

    • @MultiZymethSK
      @MultiZymethSK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JasonSturgess I watched locally on device and also connected to PC via both Airlink and Virtual Desktop at 200mbps bitrate. It does not matter, it's not about the compression. You mentioned 4K OLED TV. First of all, Quest 3 has angular resolution 25 pixels per degree, which is still really, really low. It's quite a bit lower than even a 1080p 24'' display viewed from 60cm. That's an objective metric. The OLED part - your TV is capable of displaying pure blacks, which the Quest 3's LCD panel cannot do, the backlight is always on for every pixel. So if you are in a dark virtual room, it's not really dark, it looks grey. Maybe you value the stereoscopic image, or you prefer the virtual environment over the room where your TV is located, sure. But the image itself is simply never going to be comparable to a high res OLED display. Some people care more, some people care less, just like some people are fine with 60Hz displays while some cannot go below 120Hz (I'm in the latter camp).

    The quest 3’s resolution not enough no worth watching a movie in 4k. The headset can show you Full HD video natively, if the video almost fills up your field of view, because of the resolution of the screens. Loading 4k movies to the quests storage is just a waste of space. It’s different on TH-cam, because there you could get a much clearer picture on higher resolution thanks to the higher bitrate.
