      The problem with them having a home planet is what species on their home planet is the normal host for their life cycle? It kinda makes sense that somebody, engineer or earthling, created them to be an ultimate bio-weapon like Umbrella for Resident Evil. They are too destructive to be a natural occurring species.

    They filmed the beach scenes of this in the town where I grew up, Seaham in Northeast England. They call that beach the Blast, 'cause it was just a wasteland of black sand and tar from the coal mine runoff that poured into the sea next to it. Turns out when you want a place that looks like humans can't live there, you go where people in mining towns take their kids for a paddle.
    It's all cleaned up now, it's won awards and stuff for how much it's improved. This film was responsible for a lot of the attention it got. One of the reasons I can't hate it as much as a lot of people do.

      If you go to Seaton & look down towards the Tees Estuary you can make out several pieces of the industrial complex that featured in one of the matte paintings. Not sure how much of the furnaces exist on Tees Side since they started redevelopment.

    The great set design is the #1 reason I love the Alien movies. Everything looks so industrial and gritty. The prison is enormous, I think they said it covered five square miles or something like that and 99% of it is abandoned and full of creepy dark places.

      I'll be honest, I think Spikey is better than the dead Ox. It puts more emotion into the interplay between the two scenes. Spikey was a good boy, and he didn't deserve what happened to him. The Ox? Who cares, it's a carcuss.
      There's a superior version of this film somewhere between the theatrical and director's cut. There's some good character stuff in the extended version, but there's also a lot of padding and fluff that drags the movie. Capturing the alien just doesn't work in my book. It relies on one character being immensely stupid, which doesn't lead to anything.

    • @AleksPizana
      @AleksPizana 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of things are different on this version. The xenomorph has a different form, gets captured and released in a different way too. I actually love watching both versions, one after the other. I don't recommend watching Resurrection Director's Cut though, that one sucks haha.

    • @donovanbradford8231
      @donovanbradford8231 ปีที่แล้ว

      So this film went through alot of changes more so than most and an earlier script called for the drone xenomorph to as we see in this version burst out of an ox but I don't think it tested well or the director shot it didn't like it and changed it to a dog. Because the xenomorph was always going to be moving around on all fours but the design was of a slimmer than what we had previously seen in the films and the director thought a dog would be a better choice given they used a dog in the newborn effect shots just dressed up on a halfway xenomorph costume. Once they settled on the dog idea they shot those scenes which sadly are sad to watch but I think fit better with the tragic funeral scene and the pray Dillon gives.

    For the record, this isn't the director's cut. David Fincher has effectively disowned this film and says that his cut of Alien3 does not exist and cannot be made. This was an attempt by the producers to best recreate Fincher's intended cut with the materials available.

      @@dallassukerkin6878 there's a difference between objective facts, and subjective opinions. Alien 3 has better characterization, pacing, and is far more philosophically ambitious than Aliens. That is a fact. People just didn't like it because it wasn't the movie they wanted or expected, even if the tone of this film is far more appropriate to the subject matter. What you are doing is using an argument ad populum, which is a common fallacy. I could use t5hat same logic to say that Twilight is one of the greatest stories ever written and by your logic, I would be completely right. Come back to me when you actually learn how to debate.
      Oh but it's bad because 2 characters with no personality from the previous movie died. Hicks and Newt literally only existed to be catalysts for Ripley.

    Allow me to answer a question. You were right about the facehugger being bigger, thats because it is a Royal Facehugger. These facehuggers are not only bigger, but they can impregnate multiple hosts. Thats how Ripley and the cow got impregnated, and queens do take longer to gestate.

    The facehugger they found was a queen facehugger, it is why it was so big. It also had webbed legs. A queen facehugger has 2 embrios it can implant instead of the one. It does this when there is no hive so there is a drone and the queen. they do this so the drone can make a hive and wait to look after the queen. so the drone was the one from the bull and the queen was in ripley. hope this helped....also on what you were saying about the neomorphs, they are the product of the last things alive david tested on the planet with the black goo. they were the ultimate species to adapt to it and then david made the xenomorphs from them...well more a protomorph, that is why it is more organic. david will add bio-mechanical aspect to make them stronger which leads to the xenomorph in the movie alien.

Furthermore, if you analyze this film it duplicates scenes from Aliens.

    • @acfan8253
      @acfan8253 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@jjjones8609 actually there were 4 scripts written for the third instalment one was William Gibson's which was a rehash of Aliens but in a Cold War context-like concept where two mega corporations Weyland (capitalist) and the UPP (communist) fight for the possession of alien bioengineering and create mutated aliens like in Resurrection. Hicks was going to be the main character while scrapping Ripley totally from the franchise.
      Second script was David Twohy's idea of a prison installed in an asteroid where scientists where researching the alien behaviours with death row inmates. This concept was similar to the comic Alien Labyrinth. And no Ripley or Hicks were involved in this movie.
      The third one was Eric Red's the worst script of them all.
      The fourth was Vincent Ward's that was supposed to be set in a wooden planet made by the monks who vowed to be isolated from the rest of the civilization, just like the prisoners in Alien 3. This movie had a really cool concept of a chameleonic alien able to hide in plain sight by mimicking the surroundings it was in and mocks and stalks Ripley to torment her for the dead of the queen in Aliens. Overall the script wasn't good, but it had cool concepts like that.
      Alien 3 is basically a mixture of David Twohy's and Vincent Ward's written by David Giler and Walter Hill the producers and owners of the franchise. Although they gave full credit to Vincent Ward because its where they got more ideas from for the final film. Just imagine the prisoners as monks and that was Vincent Ward's script.
      All these scripts can be found on google, they are worth to read if you'd like to see the potential directions the franchise could have gone to and expand the lore.

    Interesting fact: The reason the face hugger looked so much bigger in this one was because if you read the movie notes from the script it says that was a Queen Face Hugger...different from the regular ones that make the soldiers because it creates both a Queen larva and a Soldier larva to protect the Queen's host while she gestates. The notes also said that in this story, the face hugger impregnated Newt but then the ship crashed and Newt drowned in her pod and the Queen Embryo crawled out of her mouth and entered Ripley since she was the only living host to complete it's gestation in. That is why in the first scenes you see the face hugger on Newt's cryotube and then when you see Ripley's tube, it is also broken.

    Besides Alien 3 the movie i really enjoy with Charles Dance is The Golden Child. His villain character was so interesting.
    I really enjoy this movie and i actually like how the ending goes. Finally Ripley can rest... plus also the alien species got their revenge. Its funny that people considered the Alien the main Villain, when the fact its not. Its just a species trying to survive. Humans are the real villains, specially the company. enjoy very much the dark path it went. Not always the hero survives and not always the villains are what we want them to be.
    Newt and Hicks need it to die for this particular story. Newt actress was a little old to reprise her character... and Hicks was too wounded. The other way to incluid them, was to make a different story...
    Sure the movie have some issues, particular how messy the production was. But still it is a good final for Ripley ark.

    One of the common tropes in the Alien films is that central leadership (basically the people who might be able to keep order or solve things) is wiped out as the situation worsens leaving the remaining characters to struggle and in turn, rely on Ripley. It works! In Alien 3 it's Clemens and Andrews.
    Looking back, this particular cut of the film has aged well IMO.

      But if you plan to do it I think you should include all the tie-in films as well too' so you can watch the entire original Toho Showa Universe, that will give you 15 Godzilla films and 15 tie-in films to watch altogether from the first series.
      Then you need to figure out if you rather go by chronological order of the timeline or just simply by release order?
      If you need a list of the tie-in films feel free to ask me and I'll write them down in case you are not sure about some of them.

    I always felt that the final alien drone is determined by the host the face-hugger impregnates. This one used a cow so came out less bi-pedal and more quad-pedal. That’s why it’s running around on four legs so much and other things were not used to seeing the alien do. Either that or by using CGI they could achieve more movements than with earlier puppets.

    So glad you watched the Assembly Cut; it’s a far superior than the theatrical cut.
    Alien 3 is something of a flawed masterpiece & I think after the upbeat ending of Aliens with Ripley, Hicks & Newt being almost a family people found the dystopian vibe of Alien 3 hard to get their heads round. Hicks & Newt needed to die, to continue to keep Ripley isolated. Throughout the films Ripley lost everything; the crew of the Nostromo, her daughter, the marines.
    From the moment the Fox fanfare starts to end & distort, it helps set the tone for the film. This isn’t a pleasant film & I think Fincher did incredible even though the studio fucked his vision up so so badly.
    The cast in Alien 3 is absolutely incredible; Brian Glover (Andrews) played some awesome roles in his time. Then throw Ralph Brown, Charles S Dutton & Charles Dance into the mix & it’s just excellent.
    Fun Fact: I went to art college not far from where they filmed the EEV impact & Ripley washing up on the beach; Blast Beach in Seaham, North East England. Also parts of the blast furnaces that are on the Tees Estuary feature in the matte paintings; although they filmed some scenes at Blyth Power Station.
    During filming Tom Woodruff from Amalgamated Dynamics spent up to thirteen hours inside the creature suit for certain scenes. Also, regarding you puppy comment….well they did tests with a whippet in an alien suit….let’s just say the results are comical.

    I totally agree with what you guys said at the end also. As a long time Alien fan, I too always wanted and hoped for a movie that would someday show us the home world of the Aliens and their origin, and when Prometheus came along it was not what I expected. But that doesn't mean that the origin the creator of this world gave us is somehow wrong or not good because it wasn't what we expected. That's where I have a problem with my fellow uberfans. We don't own these franchises because we call ourselves fans. Ridley Scott gave us his movies and that makes them fact and correct. As fans we don't have to like it or watch the movies if we don't want. But I find fault with fans watching it and saying things like the movies was garbage because the actual creator didn't write or direct the movie the way we wanted. We are just the bystanders to these stories that get to be a part of it for a couple of hours as it goes by on the movie screen. I wasn't expecting that origin story, but I do think it is pretty amazing. So the Aliens aren't some race of creature that evolved on planet Alien some where but are instead a bio weapon that another race experimented with and the experiment got out of control and is now one of the most dangerous, horrifying things in our galaxy...pretty good plot if you ask me.

    While I love the alien movies, I kind of wanted the origin of the Xenomorph to be left a mystery. I liked thinking that no one knew where they (and the engineers) came from, possibly some distant galaxy several thousand years ago, which of course would have lead to some interesting questions such as how did Weyland Yutani know about the organisms and where to find the crashed ship. I'm hoping for either a movie or possibly in the TV series that we will see an outbreak on Earth or another heavily populated planet, which is caused by the Weyland Yutani corp believing they had control over containment of a Xenomorph research lab.

    Myself I always enjoyed this film as a kid and still do because this really lets you know these stories are just as much about Ripley as they are about the Xenomorphs as we get more of the Xenomorphs we get more of Ripley's story and growth of her character and that's why she is not only such a strong female character but an iconic character in cinema. I loved Dillon he was by far my favorite character and his ending while sad was great, he just goes out on his feet like a boss no fear or hesitation. Loved the chase through the corridors and planet so much fun. I get the heart break of Newt and Hicks being gone but it sadly had to happen because we needed it to ve be about Ripley and given where the company was and what they planned she needed to be ready for the nightmare to finally be over and not having any attachments to anyone at that point in the story was the right call. Good movie sad it doesn't get the love that developed for say Predator 2 as time went on but we all have movies like that.

    My understanding was that Prometheus and Covenant (and their yet-to-be sequel) were meant to be Ridley Scott’s magnum opus as a separate franchise, but fans wanted more Alien so badly he tried to cram a bunch of lore into a philosophical story, and it just didn’t work for everyone. • @thereturningshadow

    In the theatrical cut it was a dog not a cow. Part of the reason was because the cow/ox refused to do the face hugger scene and this movie already being riddled with reshoots, rewrites and all over interference from the studio, they just switched to a dog as dogs are trainable. Plus the CGI alien was already created by the time Fincher came onboard that they needed a different kind of host than human to justify the alien's look of being more a four legged creature rather than a two legged one that were in the previous movies. That's why this alien is able to run on all fours that the others did NOT do. And this concept of the alien taking on physical characteristics of its host was carried through in Prometheus and Covenant.
