I have a Hoss since Christmas last year, and it definitely lost performance over time. But out of the box, it’s an absolute beast, it has a lot of torque, the tires are great, and it’s easy to drive. I think that it requires more skill than the Maxx, but both are awesome trucks.
The Hoss is a beast with a glass jaw regarding jumping it. You break driveshafts on that thing really quick jumping it. It’s great for flat ground though!
@@jplewis9446 Oh, I agree! A monster truck like the Hoss looks like it should be jumped. You can jump it but, having to replace those drive shafts adds up quick! 😂
@@nvl2691 I just drive it around on flat open areas and stay off the brakes. No more driveshaft issues. I do have the steel rears ready to go though! 😁

I wonder if the lads used the Max without the widering kit if they would still have the same opinion if you have the time to do that test again. Love your work
I have a pretty large collection as well and own both cars, but my favorite is definitely the Maxx. It just is the toughest car out there. You can beat it all day long and it will come back and ask for more. Oh, and you can make it bunny hop as well, just needs a little more practice...
i dont have a hoss, but i have a powered up stampede, which is almost the same as the hoss and i love it. i have a maxx v2 on the way and cant wait to run it! i look at the maxx v2 as a smaller xmaxx for durability in the size of a 1/10 basher. i cant WAIT to add the maxx to my collection of trucks!
I like the Stampede 4x4 more than the Maxx with Widekit. It is more agile and fun. I`m bashin the Stampede 4x4 for about 3 years now an never broke an a-arm. I just broke the rear skid the original wheelybar and the original shocks.
Plus with the Maxx motor, add a esc to run 4s and you can borrow any parts from the slash, rustler 4x4 vxl, stampede and fans for the motor shared with the Maxx. I think the most versatile of the 3s. From 1/10, 1/8-1/5 still one I have a lot of fun with.
Being wchair bound I use the selfright feature on my erevo 2.0 and xmaxx all day long with 90% success. It's been said the Maxx is the most reliable SR and the hoss the least makes it a no brainer, Maxx 💯% 🧑🦽 BB
Put it this way, after having a stampede 4x4 vxl (progressively upgraded) for over 3 years and having the maxx for 2 months, I'm ready to sell my stampede. I run both with 1/8th esc/motor, 4S in the stampede and 6S in the maxx. The stampede just seems so fragile in comparison. EDIT: a year or so later... After breaking many bulkheads and arms on my maxx while destroying an indestructible body because of the lack of a decent bumper or wing, and the fact that no matter what oil/springs I run, the maxx bounces off most jumps so bad that it ends up on it's roof... I'm back to liking my stampede. lol!
💯% The wide Max because i'm more into racing I'd definitely gear it up a bit on 4S it is plenty fast especially on most typical tracks The Hoss is cool though 100 bucks cool lol I love the bunny hop and it looks very fun to drive Love the comparison videos You should do the Vortex 4x4 Rustler E Revo etc ✌️
can i ask an honest question? because my xmaxx is too large and over time i find myself not using it because of how heavy the dang thing is when the batteries die and i have to haul it a mile from wherever im at so im seriously considering getting a dope and durable 10th scale rc again.. i used to have a brushless stampede 4x4 with the castle brushless setup and calibration, but i have a single question i am hoping you can provide your recommentation and advice on. I want to get a fast and durable all in one traxxas 10th scale truck and was wondering what you would recommend? i want something that of course has the speed above all and handling, then bashability and durability there is also imporant do any of the new traxxas models come to mint? something that hopefully wont break the wallet maybe what is the best and fastest most durable truck for the cheapest price and going upwards from there you recommendations.. thanks soo much for any trucks you can provide recommendations for i really appreciate it.. and if yall want a barely used xmaxx 1st gen with a ton of upgrades, new wheelie bar, spoiler cover, big bore shocks, proline everything i would be willing to sell for a dope truck or at least a gift certificate or mmoney so i can buy myself a tenth scale truck i can bash and wont break my heart if something breaks or happens to it... thanks again fellas i really appreciate any information you can throw my way, means alot to me!! -peter piccolo
The hoss is my first car and it's super fun. The auto right feature absolutely busts the cv knuckles. I've broken way to many parts but, it's still a blast.
I have both. My maxx is I have alot of stuff hopped up on it an my hoss is bone stock.. im a maxx guy, but I do need a new servo.. Im thinking protek black or savox black. I want to try a brushless servo. @johnny_hankins I have some pics of my lik rc collection. I started these about 5 months ago..lol.. your videos are definitely part of the reason I got back into rc. I use the word back loosely being on only really had RadioShack cars..
Hmmm. Idk at this point if I was gonna get a maxx I’d rather go all out for the e revo. Nowadays the revo is tough as hell! (Especially with the 20-30$ In upgrades and fixes the community found) I added aluminum chassis brace limiting straps the day I got it and have been beating the breaks off it since with no breakages. Had to JBweld and retap 2 a arm holes but not bad at allllllll for over a year of bashing it
I have both the maxx and hoss and to me the hoss seems like a little maxx in the way it drives and jumps i actually have two of the hoss’s and really like them but I prefer the maxx more but you definitely have to do the wideMaxx kit for your first upgrade
The maxx came first so it got the name because the chassis is a miniature version. I believe if the Hoss came first it would have the Maxx moniker. Go from running an Xmaxx to the maxx and the Hoss and tell me which one drives and reminds you more, handling wise and jumps. After running the Xmaxx I get a giggle out of the Hoss because it's like a mini maxx.
You over throttled. Takes a little practice. To much throttle especially with no load will make tires pizza cutters. That’s what makes them blow out. Venting the tires helps, strapping the tires help, or getting belted tires.
It isn't half the fun for me lol. You blow a idler or a diff out and have to fix it in between heat races and have to fix it before up again and here is only 10 to 15 heats will make u not like to fix shit lol. This is why I don't mess with Traxxas because you are always fixing something with a Traxxas. Model lol
Wow thats a pro driver…?? Maybe take them trucks where they belong next time… grass and concrete .!! not the place..!! That dude must be an asphalt roundup round driver.!!!!
Got to be the Maxx for me. Great comparison👍👍
Nice comparison sir. I would go for the hoss myself. I like the "fun factor" of it. Working on it is half the fun for me!
Problem: Each truck has its pros and cons.
Solution: Buy both (problem solved)!
I have a Hoss since Christmas last year, and it definitely lost performance over time. But out of the box, it’s an absolute beast, it has a lot of torque, the tires are great, and it’s easy to drive. I think that it requires more skill than the Maxx, but both are awesome trucks.

Great vid Mark !
Just do what we did and get both. The Maxx for just general bashing and the Hoss for wild fun stuff. lol
You should compare the traxxas Hoss vs the traxxas 4wd stampede vxl !
Hoss vs Rustler 4x4!
Hoss and Rustler are two different trks.
@@xmaxxfan1857 And the Hoss and Maxx are not?! The Rustler and Hoss are much closer in scale and design.
The hoss is a monster trk and the rustler is more like the Erevo
@@xmaxxfan1857 the e revo is still a monster truck. It’s not a truggy by any means.
How about the up and coming Traxxas sledge Mark? 😉

My maxx wheelies like crazy
i know your over the hoss but do you know if hoss has or developing wide kit for hoss think that would take hoss to the top of list

@@DUNGSTA It sure is, you can drive it on 3s to start with.
Can the Maxx do flips on 3s?
Wait can you do self righting with the wide maxx kit?
Yes
Good idea. I enjoyed the comparison. If. you have to buy additional batteries for the Maxx, the Hoss may be the choice price wise.
maybe put heavier shock oil in the maxx and see how that helps with the wheelies, body slap, etc. you might change your mind a little bit.
Put the maxx on 6s it bunny hops easier and wheelies a lot easier lol. I put mine on 6s and it’s insane.
im going to do mine 6s soon
Have a good weekend
Mark put a washer in the bell cranked on the maxx it makes it drive way better
I have a bias opinion because I have a Maxx and don’t have a hoss but I’m on the maxx side of the fence. The maxx is built like a tank!
