there are two things that i miss from the original game that arent in the remake. The raw materials morphing in to the item you are creating and the voice line collection when you learn new attacks/spells. that was like our first iteration of achievements...to try and get every piece of voice lines for the characters

Generally with major studios there's a few websites where you can apply for codes, like Woovit or Lurkit or Rainmaker, but for copies well in advance of release you'll often need to pitch the Influencer Manager or Community Manager for the company and then it's a dice roll based on their campaign plans and your pitch. Worth a shot always, though, so long as you handle it professionally and just be open and honest about your work ethic and passion!
A yes Xenogears. My number one JRPG since the day i 1st played it. Love almost everything about it. The amazing story, the way that it's paced, superb cast of characters(fuck you Chu-Chu),amazing music and world to explore. It has it all. If not for the second disk, it would have been a perfect game for me. And i will always have a burning passionate dislike of Squaresoft, for not allowing the team some extra time and money to finish it. As they wanted to force the game to end on the Solaris segment. And since the development team wanted to finish the story that they envisioned for the game, they had to take some shortcuts to make it before the deadline. So this is def something that would have to be fixed in the remake. They would have to take the visual novel parts of the second disk, and turn it in to actual gameplay. Then we have the whole topic of the religious aspects in the game, or the human condition. Dunno how that would fly with todays snowflake gamers. Still i really hope Square will eventually release it. At worst just give me the PS1 version that works on modern systems with updated translation.

It’s very hard for me to get into rpgs ,I’m old enough I had a psx as a kid but I never had star ocean , the demo was something special i couldn’t put it down I haven’t had that feeling about any single player game in a long time
Sometimes games just hit you like that. It's similar to how lots of kids in the 90s said they hated RPGs, but loved Pokemon. It can be less about the genre as a whole and more about finding the RIGHT game. I'm glad you're enjoying it, though!
I hope this becomes a Trend to remaster old rpgs in this art of style. Legend of Dragoon Final Fantasy 7-9 Breath of Fire And so much more. I could relive my childhood and be the happiest being on the planet 😂
I’m loving this remake, and I played the PSP version more than once. It just goes to show that Squenix CAN create a faithful remake. Let’s hope they continue along these lines, although they have a lot of trust-building to do with me.
I tried it on ps5 and thought it was a bit jaggy but still looked great but then tried it on my switch oled and it really looked just as good but more at home on a hand held that I can play on the sofa,in bed etc..

this is a dream come true!! just incredible!! i would have preferred a FF VII remake like this! i even skip FF VII remake because being stuck in midgar for 50 hours and the huge story changes put me to much off. rebirth looks better but still ... the demo did not convince me either.
Dude this is more of the work of TRI-ACE and with a little help from Square Enix. Square Enix did a lot to publish this game but the programming was made by Tri-Ace Team. You should give more credit to Tri-Ace!
I acknowledge from the outset that Tri-Ace made the original game, but I can not stress enough that this is not just some uprez'd Remaster of an old game to cash in. SE basically overhauled the game, many of its systems, it's appearance, etc... And so I focused on SE because the amount better it is is immense. This isn't shade or a shot at Tri-Ace, mind you. I loved the game as a kid and it's not the only Tri-Ace game I've loved! I just need to focus on what was done here, y'know?

SO2R is very good by remake standards, especially visually, but it really just shreds the challenge off of the original game more or less completely. There's so much good stuff here though that it really highlights a lot of the flaws in the original SO2... namely, it's short, it's got a lot of rough edges for a game that is as short as it is, it has a lot of cut content and it shows, and the plot from what many would call the mid-game mark (but is really more like 3/5ths of the game) onward is near to non-existent. Also splitting the perspective of Claude and Rena into two 'stories' adds almost nothing to the game. Maybe if the base game were a little more engaging it'd feel more meaningful, but the game would be a lot better if they just let you switch perspectives during the game and do all the private actions for everyone. While we're at it, the remake should have removed the character limit and let you recruit all the characters simultaneously. There isn't really a compelling reason for limiting you to 8 characters total and there isn't a compelling reason why Opera and Ashton / Bowman and Precis to have to be separate either. Humorously the only entry in SO2 to go against this so far is the anime. The combat in SO2 is kinda shit. Stuff either kills you near instantly if you have the wrong equipment and too low of levels or it does basically 0 damage and is no threat at all. This holds true right up until the end of the game. So many of the killer moves require being horizontally aligned with the enemy and have near zero chance of hitting... this a bit part of why Dias is so broken. He can just go wherever he wants and use his ridiculous beefed up airslash with near zero risk. Then you get to the end-game where every boss enemy suddenly starts wanting to use instant party wipe spells (that are undodgable and freeze the screen so you can't act while they are going off) that really exacerbate the issue with levels and equipment determining whether stuff is fatal or harmless. R could have addressed that, but I guess they didn't really want to touch formulas. I don't particularly blame them, but it's a big part of why the best parts of this game are always going to be right before that one demon guy shows up when you're on the boat with the Lacour Hope. Really marks the transition between the game being fair/engaging and the game getting stupid.

It really is. Like, you COULD get Star Ocean: First Departure R because its a good game to me and you'd get to play with Claudes parents, but you absolutely can just hop into this one and be great.

Played about 55 hours with Claude. I maxed all my characters, finished the game, beat the optional dungeon, beat the trumpet boss, beat the arena, collected all the fish……feel like I still wanna keep playing lol. It’s a great game man. Kudos to the devs.
Fun fact: Ashton is the actual hero of light but is cursed with extreme misfortune until you get back one of his holy weapon. You can see this in the church glass and tv show opening portraying him in holy white instead of his usual black attire with his weapon "Holy Cross".
I'd love xenogears to get a HD2.5D remake. But I really want Parasite Eve to get an RE2 style remake. Both OG square PS1 titles that need some modern day love. Legend of Dragoon would be amazing in any graphic style.
I respect your opinion but i guess the 10/10 you gave to the game is based on how the handled the Remake and how they presented the game to the modern times.... Because the game is definitely good... But i don't think it deserves the 10/10 ... It has flaws but if you're a JRPG fan you'll probably wont even notice them. 😊
For me, I'm glad this came out now because January ends with Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and you get a month from that dropping before FF7 Rebirth drops, so I'm glad this didn't get lost in the mix. RPG fans are EATING lately.
UHD 3D Remake of Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time should be next! Then Remaster Star Ocean from the Super Famicom, Star Ocean: The Second Story from the Playstation and Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time from the Playstation 2 and port it on PC. I want to feel again the originals in GLORIOUS 4K RTX SCREEN RESOLUTION! A Remaster that will correct the glitches and problems of the original games and is less pixelated!
@@ZeNex74For both of you, is the issue that the combat just seemed too frenetic? It may be an issue of just not being the right game for you, but it might also be a case where toning down the difficulty is the best choice? Possibly worth trying in the demo to see if it feels a bit better.

i hate the 2dhd look. It’s cheap and ugly. The center of the canvas should not have less detail than the surroundings, it creates the zoomed out, uncanny look. It’s hard dated and short lasting. They should treat the legacy series seriously and put proper budget on them when remaking them.
If i just get a Xenogears remake in style of this and i could die a happy man.

There are only two things I would change.
A: Have Usage, manual upgrading and 10 levels of both.
B: Have Rena learn 3-4 killer moves.
That’s it.

Exactly. I think HD 2D is beautiful, and I think 3D Remakes of high quality can be beautiful, but this 2.5D approach fits this game *perfectly*.

It can certainly be Hit or Miss. I will say I enjoyed The Divine Force last year, so if you haven't checked it out, it might be worth it!

Why the subsequent Star Oceans can’t be as good as second story? Why can’t they just copy the formula and expand on it?
UHD 3D Remake of Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time should be next! Then Remaster Star Ocean from the Super Famicom, Star Ocean: The Second Story from the Playstation and Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time from the Playstation 2 and port it on PC. I want to feel again the originals in GLORIOUS 4K RTX SCREEN RESOLUTION! A Remaster that will correct the glitches and problems of the original games and is less pixelated!
I played the demo and hated the combat, but the story and graphics are fire

@@ZeNex74For both of you, is the issue that the combat just seemed too frenetic? It may be an issue of just not being the right game for you, but it might also be a case where toning down the difficulty is the best choice? Possibly worth trying in the demo to see if it feels a bit better.
yeah demo wiped me in the 1st cave. think i need to run around more but also think the controls on switch handheld are not good. special moves should be on the back bumpers maybe.. ill try again but such a backlog i may pass for a bit and see@@AnoriandGD
i hate the 2dhd look. It’s cheap and ugly. The center of the canvas should not have less detail than the surroundings, it creates the zoomed out, uncanny look. It’s hard dated and short lasting. They should treat the legacy series seriously and put proper budget on them when remaking them.
