Searching The Streets Of Cornwall For 1 Homeless Man

  • My previous video, where I chatted to Martin, gained quite a bit of interest. You can watch that video here • Homeless In Cornwall: ...
There were a mix of questions, criticisms and empathy in the comments section of that video. Martin had fell through a hole in society, from a well paid job as a plasterer paying £1000 per week, to the streets. Some of the questions that came in the comments of the initial video weren’t fully addressed in our first interview, so I went back to Truro to search for Martin. I also wanted to give him some of the ad revenue generated from the first video. I had no way of contact for Martin and my only option was to mingle into the homeless world of the city and investigate his whereabouts.

*If you send me money on Paypal and write the comment “helpmartin” in the option, I will take the money in person to Martin. The deadline for donations is 31st March 2023, because shortly after then I won’t be able to take it to him in person. If I receive any donations after that date, I will donate them to St Petrocs charity.
*Here is the link to St Petrocs, who are a charity working to end homelessness in Cornwall. They believe every person has a right to a safe and secure home. Martin says they have been very helpful to him personally www.stpetrocs....

I've been homeless myself a few times over my life and it's the worst thing that could happen to anyone, there isn't much help out there and people are so ignorant and cruel towards homeless people it's just not fair, there life is so hard without idiots attacking them when there trying to sleep or keep warm.
It's disgusting that the government are quick to help out people from other countries but are willing to leave our own people on the streets.
Nice one Wendell for helping Martin out and taking the time to video his horrible situation it's a shame there's not more people out there like you.

We have trades people with skills from the uk, in the uk, on the streets because life threw them a nasty curve ball and the local authorities have the power the place them in a safe place of their choosing but the uk is being flooded with families displaced from abroad for numerous reasons, most recent being Ukrainian war, I still feel the local people shouldn’t be ignored as local authorities get handouts for housing not so locals first. It’s a horrible spiral, no home, unable to get jobs because no address, no money to pay rent, it goes round and round.

Well done for highlighting this problem Oli. It's hard to separate the politics when it is actually political decisions that have put a lot of folk into this sort of position but we should all be prepared to help when we can. The least people can do is cut street folk some slack and not judge them or harass them, as I said in the other video "there but for the grace of god" etc. ✌

I just stumbled on your channel today and think what you are doing is a breath of fresh air. I often think how would I fix the current issues of all the rundown towns. What I realised watching you is just how everything is linked and just by showing people the reality of the situation. The beating heart of the country is those markets those friendly welcoming people who at the end of the day like the vast majority are in the same boat. People need to stop sitting at home listening to all the division and fear mongering on the TV, instead like you we should all get back out there and rebuild our communities and uplift each other before it's too late. Keep up the great work 👏

HI Wendall I'm late coming to your video's & just seen this & subscribed too, just wanted to say it's lovely that you helped Martin this way he's right it can happen to anyone at any time, I was homeless for six months after fleeing domestic abuse ended up with my lawyer changing my name by emergency deed poll for my own protection & had to move into a different county so lost my home & job,
It's a hard life & frightening too so now because I know what it's like I regularly help the homeless in my area with food & clothes even bought tents & sleeping bags a few times, I don't have much but I try to give the help I never got as much as I can & just ordered a bulk lot of emergency blankets which I do every year when we get near winter months

Was a great bloke with his Dog and I had mine and we sat in the doorway of the shop having a few tinnies and a good old chat. Will never forget that I do wonder if he is still around and still on this Earth. I hope so.

I’m not getting it Wendall you usually present a well educated balanced argument and I always admire and respect your presenting skills - however on this matter as much I support homeless and charities - I fear you’ve kinda lost direction on this - in my opinion giving the guy money is not going to help him (there are always two sides to a story). He ran away from his life, responsibilities, wife, family and friends - I think you could’ve asked more delving questions. Telling him I’m going to give you money anyone will say yes. I would far rather you gave money to the appropriate homeless charities local to the area where it could provide more direct help and support to those genuinely homeless. 🤷‍♀️

The only question answered is the chap can’t work because of a health condition, not Covid? So surely he should have been eligible for some government support once substantiated?

Love what you’re doing but you must stop telling people you will help people financially in front of certain people because they will potentially rob him. Wendall I’m a big fan but please be a bit more savvy you just can’t trust people anymore- they even said “why have you got money for him”

No worries bud this just came up as a suggestion and we see the date at the end! Glad you know your stuff and knowledge comes with experience. fYI you need to come to Melton Mowbray, beautiful place but small and being overrun with drug addicts at the moment and only getting worse, shops closing, gone from a retirement run town to a county lines run town. I won’t even walk at night on my own

      Hi Eddie
I can see you are trolling to get a rise out of me, so here’s your little thrill. I don’t feel the need to ‘prove I’m genuine’, especially not to you. There are people here calling Martin a fraud, you calling me a fraud, people sending Martin money, people blaming immigrants, the government. It just shows how divided society has become. My TH-cam revenue my friend is minimal, I only have 7k subs and most videos rarely top 5k views. I’ve never done anything more than cover the petrol I spend on this channel, let alone the thousands of pounds of equipment costs and flights. Believe me I’m at a substantial loss for this hobby. I hope you can project your disdain for me towards something more positive, for your own self benefit. You may be angry Eddie, but I’m in a process of trying to no longer judge in life and I don’t think bad of you. I’m just glad you are projecting vitriol towards me and not someone weaker. Take care of yourself and the people around you 🙏
